  • I love having them on.  I don't miss the jaggy shadows from 2020.

On equals pin sharp shadows in the cockpit, off equals soft and aliased shadows.  You must be able to see a difference!

It is the main culprit on the VRAM BUG. Thus, I have had to turn it off.

I love them and wouldn’t fly without them. I have a powerful system though so of course that matters.

Are raytraced shadows only relevant for depicting things in the cockpit? Or is it something applied to external scenery (clouds, airports, terrain) as well?

On/off, I really can't see a difference.

No. I do have shadows at 6144 though.

Shadows in the cockpit only.

Is this a known/verfied issue or is it a best guess?

Whether or not it’s actually tied to the VRAM bug I’m nit sure, but either way it consumes a lot of VRAM and pushes me over the limit if I use it.

Wow, on my system, Shadow Raytracing is worth about 10-15 fps and about 0.5 GB of GPU memory. I can see little to no difference in the cockpit image, even with default shadow detail.

Shadows are great without it and I do like the slight shimmer sometimes that seems like the plane is vibrating.

Cockpit shadows are way better with raytracing. Interestingly with my 7900xt it isn't hard on fps, so I can leave it on.

It's a known issue. I think they intended it only for the RTX 50XX series. Even Nvidia recommends it for my 4080 Super.

Have enough over with my 4080S like the shadows...
