March 31, 20251 yr Having spent literally hundreds of hours with Carenado's C185F "Bush" in Orbx's PNW all the way up to AK, getting this one was a no-brainer for me (once it became available for 2020 last week). Of course the FSX version benefited from the excellent flight model work by Bernt Stolle. As for the MSFS version, in typical Carenado fashion, she looks pretty nice. Flies quite well too, in a purely subjective way. Ground handling is rather docile for a 185. But then: 22"/2200 revs nets 150 KTAS at 5000', well into the yellow arc. Wow! 15"/2200, she still cruises at 115-120, at a phenomenal 3 GPH! Off the top of my head, that's a very neat 2,700nm+ range! She's very hard to slow down to flap extension speed unless you set the throttle more or less to idle. Plan your descend carefully, like in a jet! Despite the barn door sized full flaps, anything but a shallow approach will catapult you through the sound barrier (ok, hyperbole, but you'll get what I mean). There's no way drop this bucket into a 1000' strip with trees at either end and walk away from it. Cockpit engine sounds are annoying. There's also a discontinuity somewhere in the loop. Outside sounds are much better. Also with a window open. But there's another caveat: can't open (or close) the windows once airborne. But I'm sure MS/Carenado are busy at work with an update! Again, this is in 2020. Maybe you get better results in 2024. At least it's FREE there! Edited March 31, 20251 yr by gunther typo
March 31, 20251 yr This aircraft is beautiful! I'm no expert to validate if the flight model is accurate or not. I'm not going to start a debate on realistic procedures too, but I would love to have at least a basic AP, or some kind of a retrofit AP, is just for pure comfort for longer flights while using the computer. If anyone knows of some kind of mod for an AP, please let me know. Thanks! Alexander Colka

Correct, and it's strange because this is the only aircraft it does this with that I've come across. Oh and I tried shift+c (does not work) but does in other aircraft.. I haven't tried the 185 (or 2024 at all) so I'm not sure what this looks like, but just to clarify: like in a lot of taildraggers, you can't see over the nose in front of you when on the ground in 3 point attitude. The 185 has *ok* forward visibility compared to other taildraggers, but you still can't see in front of you without some s turning. About the only taildraggers with forward visibility good enough to not require s turning are the Aeronca / American Champion family: the Champ, Scout, Citabria, Super Decathlon etc. Andrew Crowley

No, I am not talking about forward visibility, but the pilots viewpoint, which in the 185 is very low - I should be able to see the cowling. CTRL-E does not raise the pilot viewpoint high enough before it stops raising the viewpoint. I would be very careful in assuming they know about these issues and are updating things without guidance. They aren't mind readers and I do not believe they follow forums. (Also, while the official mechanism for these sorts of releases is apparently to report bugs via the MS Official Forums, I've heard from Carenado themselves that they don't consistently get reports from there, so I'd suggest emailing them directly). One additional bug/inconsistency that they got right in both the 170 and 182RG but missed elsewhere: The ident light on the transponder should intermittendtly blink when on ON or ALT modes. (In real world it illuminates when interrogated but a periodic blinking here suffices). They accomplished this in some products but not others, and to me the lack of this feature makes the transponder look non-functional to my eyes.

April 1, 20251 yr First off: There is no translate up or translate down command in msfs2020 or 2024. Only translate left, right, forward, back. Not up, not down. Such commands do not exist. To translate up and down, you must use these commands instead: Increase Cockpit View Height and Decrease Cockpit view height. These will translate the view up and down. I suggest you assign to a hat: Increase Cockpit view height (^), Decrease Cockpit View height (v), Translate cockpit view right (>), and Translate Cockpit View left (<). Or put them on the arrow keys. Or onto flipper buttons. The alpha yoke has 4 flipper buttons, and I use two of them for this purpose. The limits on how far you can raise cockpit view up (or down) is hard wired into the configuration file for each aircraft. Carenado put a upper limit which is a child's view limit for this particular aircraft. It cannot be raised any higher with MSFS general options, nor with any of the commands I listed above. This is why complaints in this thread about the view simply cannot be made to go high enough. Carenado sets the limits. The limit they set is a child's view limit. And it is absurd. I posted a complaint here about this and someone saved my day by showing how to simply text edit Carenado's configuration file. It was trial and error, but finally I got it set where I liked it. But when I reinstalled msfs2024, I lost my modified config file. So I would have to go and do it all again. I should have backed it up. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. April 2, 20251 yr OK, I found that old post where GACSavanah gave me the true clue how to modify the file. I'm not that knowledgeable with the nuts and bolts to know how to do these things. But this told me how, and I followed it up. It takes quite a bit of work: quote (GACSavanah) 1. Navigate to the installed simulator directory (Mine is (My user directory)\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\) 2. Dig into there to find LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes\ 3. Look in that folder for the desired aircraft folder. A. If your plane itself resides in your community folder, then you will find two files in the desired aircraft folder, state.cfg, and cameras.cfg. You can adjust your set position using the cameras.cfg file B. If your plane is a FS2024 native installation, then you will find two folders in the desired airplane folder, one named Common, and one named presets. Look in the presets, and you will find a folder with a unique name. I am guessing in your case it will be named Carenado. Look in that folder and you will find one more folder probably named Carenado_C185, or something similar. Look in that folder and you will find yet another folder named Config. Finally open that config folder. Now, one of two things will happen, either there will be a cameras.cfg file there or there wont be. If there is not, you can create one. Simply start the simulator, and load the desired aircraft, then create any saved camera position, using the Ctrl key together with any desired key to display the custom camera view. Once you have saved at least one camera view using Ctrl+?? (I like to use F1 through F9 my self, so Ctrl+F1 will work) you can go look in the config folder once again, and this time you should have your camera.cfg file. Open the file with notepad and you can edit your seat position. unquote 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
