I am struggling to see the need to transition to 2024....

That should be out of alpha, by 2030

What I meant was, if you wish they would stop 'supporting' MSFS, then in 2028 your wish will come true. I agree, if I understand you right, an MSFS 2028 might need some updates to get it straightened out, just like MSFS and MSFS 2024 and every other software (game) release it seems...

It's just as stable as 2020, and it has more realistic flight model, ground physics, rotating beacons finally work (broken since 2020), and the lighting/atmosphere is vastly more realistic than 2020.

  • Perfectly stable on my machine - never had a WASM crash, never had a CTD. To the OP: fly whatever sim you like best and works for you 👍

This will generate a myriad of responses.  But from my experience with MSFS2024, I've enjoyed every minute of the switch from the old platform.   I now have a whole suite of hi-def aircraft and s

MSFS20 is the Schrödinger's Simulator: It is both in dire need of SU16 and why did they stop development on it?; and a flawless gem of beauty that should not be touched except in reverence. 🙂

Hello Bert, (Rimshot)

The link you posted mentioned:

“Flight simulator fans may find themselves in a slightly unique position come November when Microsoft unloads its much more advanced Flight Simulator 2024 onto the world, even though the version that came in 2020 and was promised a 10-year roadmap will still very much be installed on a lot of systems."

Like I previously mentioned MSFS2020 was to have a 10 year run.

If you have other information you can provide it.

Ask yourself WHY you consider this post to be a Reliable Source...?

It's not an article from a reputable gaming or simulation reporter.

It's not a published interview of MS/Asobo personnel.

It's not a blog post by an MS / Asobo executive or Product Owner.

It's not a product web page or T's & C's published by MS / Asobo.

No, your "source" is a few internet randos demonstrating a real time game of Telephone.

The Truth Is Out There. 😉

Just go find it - you'll learn more than I I'm willing teach you.🤙

Ok, which of the two links I posted are you referring to? And has it occurred to you the writer of your quote was misinterpreting the MS statement? Have you actually read my previous post, especially the part where I was asking you about your logic? Really, MS and Asobo never promised or guaranteed ten year support for the initial release of MSFS; they promised commitment to the revival of the franchise. I really do not understand how hard this is to grasp! Again, MSFS support will end 2028. So there goes that ten year commitment... Unless they meant ten year support for subsequent releases like 2024 and beyond. That does seem a lot more likely, don't you agree?

I'm sure when Asobo created 2024, they didn't realise it was going to create a down the middle split, with people not really keen on transferring across.  My only worry now is, because 2024 is such a pain, are they going to start forcing us across in the next few years?  I look at 2020 with whole new eyes now after three months on 2024.  It's incredible.

Ain't it great when you go try an older sim/addon and find out that it's still good? 😁

There's still 2 planes I fly that only run in Prepar3D, and I'm still amazed that there's still nothing as good available in the newer sims.

That's the whole point - stick with what works best for you.

I can definitely say that I don't experience the issues with v2024 that you relate. It's a smooth, reliable, immersive experience, and the only thing that screws up my landings is that big nut behind the wheel.

In terms of the longevity of v2020, well, that's of legitimate concern, because the game is presently dependent on servers. Expensive servers.

Sooner or later, v2020 won't make enough money to pay the electric bill, and they'll shut it down.

That's forecast to be 2028 or so...

My bet, though, is that v2024, and it's follow on version, will become so much better that you won't be "forced" to make the switch, you'll readily make the jump yourself

I just wish they would stop "updating" MS 2020 which works fine until they unleash one of their mandatory updates on us, which typically causes one or more problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Welcome to my day job. 😁

If you read the thread, you'd see it's locked due to age. 😉

Now, how about YOU answer my last post to you above...? 😎

Y'know...if you just read the third paragraph in that very article, and then click the link therein, you'll have the confirmation you're seeking.

This could become a long discussion. Nevertheless, you're free to believe anything you like. That thread you're referring to is only three years old. And where in that thread is there an official announcement?

That kind of mindset would only prevent Asobo from making improvements and would discourage innovation, I'm glad you are not Asobo's technical advisor.

OK, then break it, and then fix it after you break it in a timely manner, not weeks.
