I am struggling to see the need to transition to 2024....

Have not purchased MSFS2025.

My initial understand was that MSFS2020 would have a 10 year run for Updates and Support.

Based on Microsoft’s recommended PC specifications for MSFS2025 I would need a new $5000 (USD) PC.
Currently I have 2 PCs that do not meet the MSFS2025 recommended specifications.

All my wonderful MSFS2020 "working great" Add-ons have not been updated for MSFS2025.

What's your current PC and what addons are you wondering about?  I run almost all my 2020 addons in 2024.  That being said I don't really use airliners, but my Learjet, FSR 500, dukes, TBM, Comanche, PC12 and RVs from SWS all work fine.

2020 sceneries almost always work in 24 as well.

It's just as stable as 2020, and it has more realistic flight model, ground physics, rotating beacons finally work (broken since 2020), and the lighting/atmosphere is vastly more realistic than 2020.

  • Perfectly stable on my machine - never had a WASM crash, never had a CTD. To the OP: fly whatever sim you like best and works for you 👍

This will generate a myriad of responses.  But from my experience with MSFS2024, I've enjoyed every minute of the switch from the old platform.   I now have a whole suite of hi-def aircraft and s

Yes, this topic will likey turn into  a 2020 vers 2024 debate again.

Ermm because that’s what it is.

I also need a working traffic controller either from aig or fstl and none of them that I know of are working properly. The traffic controller… not the models

Likewise. Would love that part fixed up. Surprised it isn’t yet to be honest.

I did a flight with 2024 yesterday and I wondered if it was better than 2020. It was. I just felt the need to share that.

Welcome to Avsim.

Like Pete said. Skip and move on.

There is literally no action required to just skip and move on to the next post. The drama is caused mainly because some folks will not allow themselves to ignore these posts. The guy asked a question, and that’s why this forum exists. Just my two cents.

I'll suggest a perspective that applies to all aspects of life to include flight simming. First, it's your time, money and purpose. Fly how ever you want to fly, within what ever platform you want to fly. If you are content with what and how you fly, why change? No one else can force you to change, unless like in my USAF days when they would change the Microsoft Office Suite. I would just get to expert level, login one day and office has changed😡. Then I would have to get through the stupid quirks and changes to my work flow. I don't think this happens in flight sim, so stay in what ever version you like😁. I don't like changing things unless it's a benefit. If it doesn't reduce process time by 20 minutes or more, or it doesn't increase efficiency/effectiveness by 15% or more, it ain't worth the overhead to change.

I had this one guy approach me and say, hey can we change the SOPs to include X. It works very well at place X. I asked, what's the benefit? He responded, standardization. I saw no benefit and said no. He tried two other times and I finally explained, we fly four different aircraft types here and you flew only one type at place X. What you are asking conflicts with aircraft type three. You wouldn't know that until you tack on that third type. He never asked again. What I'm saying is  that only you know why you do what you do and only you would know if it benefits you.

The title says you are struggling to find a reason, but why struggle? It's all based on your and every other person's needs. It's not a persuasive fight, unless folks are getting commission or something for touting sims. You should stick with what ever meets your needs.

We do know that flight simulation is just getting better and better over time. It's up to each individual simmer to do their own research to know when it benefits them to move to a newer sim platform. Fly safe!

With such a common sense approach you would NEVER get a job at my airline….not that you’d want one anyway.

Everytime a new iteration of a sim comes out the same discussion starts over again.

Transition or don't. But if you don't,I don't want any complaints down the line when new add ons are no longer released for the older version.

Lets not turn this thread into a 2020 vs 2024, what is the point of arguing.

We all have our own needs. I was one that said I would wait at least a year before I purchase 20204 (influenced by all the chaos on release day), then on my BD my son bought if for me even though I told him 20204 was still in its infancy, well he got it for me anyway...long story short...I decided to give it a try it...Lo and Behold...was I wrong, spent a few days with it, moved and tried my favorite aircraft addons and since then I haven't looked back. I still have 2020 installed just in case I have the urge to fly PMDG 737, but that is it.

With my pc specs performance is way better than 2020, environment lighting is also better (ray tracing) better use of multithreading and FG is smoother, faster loading times, however, I'll be honest and will say I have had one or two CTD, but also had them with 2020 when it was released so no big deal.

For me 2024 IS the way to go, but to each their own.

Is it not possible to retain both 20 and 24 and assess the progress of the newer sim before deciding to make the move?

I tried that and the more I tested 2024 the more I decided to stick with 2020.

Lol, don't you just love it when a change comes out and you are wondering the why lol. Then you find out it was because "that new guy" thought we needed it and it didn't apply. Then you work so hard to get that change removed because no one wants to admit the change was stupid😅

Seems a sensible approach.

Sounds very familiar. I’m part time so every time I go back into work having had 2 weeks off there’s normally an SOP change and a shed load of pointless notices to crew to read through.

At one point we were getting so many new notices come out all the time it was beyond a joke, the last straw for me is when they actually issued a crew notice about ..crew notices.

Obviously we all will move to MSFS2024 when the time is right. Some did the move already, some others did not. Some, and I think I'll be on that group, will move to the new sim keeping it together with 2020, at least for a certain time. MSFS2020 is great but it'll be replaced at some point for the better technology and advances that MSFS2024 will have to offer, stability amongst them.

I'm very glad to see the dusk seems to be settling down for MSFS2024 as mentioned by reputed members of this community, with the hopes that after SU2 is official 2024 will be in a better shape.

For the time being, at present it looks that there are still way too many fans of MSFSFS2020, as everybody can see in the Steam charts (I don't have a similar source for the MS Store version, by the way, but the Steam charts offer a very good statistical sample of what's happening in real life):

MSFS2020:

MSFS2024:

https://steamdb.info/app/2537590/charts/

Could it be something all these people are missing?.

Wait I am confused.

The MS24 MP has 2020 items, so I can download my old scenery / planes? I was under the impression that I could only download those items that showed up as MS24 upgrades.
