I am struggling to see the need to transition to 2024....

Featured Replies

I regret moving to 2024 when it first released because so many addons proved to be incompatible. But with SU2 that’s beginning to change. In summary, I should have waited six months..

It's just as stable as 2020, and it has more realistic flight model, ground physics, rotating beacons finally work (broken since 2020), and the lighting/atmosphere is vastly more realistic than 2020.

  • Perfectly stable on my machine - never had a WASM crash, never had a CTD. To the OP: fly whatever sim you like best and works for you 👍

Did a flight with the PMDG 772ER at dusk yesterday.... I mean, I cannot imagine the sim looking any better. Is there a drastic difference? I actually have both on my system but, with my dozens and dozens and dozens of add ons, Ive been sticking with 2020.

I do 95% of my flight in the flight levels.... any reason to switch? Especially now that chaseplane is out... I am thinking no way!

There is no need to transition to MSFS 2024 if you are perfectly happy with your flights in MSFS 2020. That may change in the future, but that moment has not arrived yet.

Is it not possible to retain both 20 and 24 and assess the progress of the newer sim before deciding to make the move?

When flying in VR in 2020 I look out of the window and see an incredibly realistic rendition of the real world.

When flying in VR in 2024 I look out of the window see the real world.

Have not purchased MSFS2025.

My initial understand was that MSFS2020 would have a 10 year run for Updates and Support.

Based on Microsoft’s recommended PC specifications for MSFS2025 I would need a new $5000 (USD) PC.
Currently I have 2 PCs that do not meet the MSFS2025 recommended specifications.

All my wonderful MSFS2020 "working great" Add-ons have not been updated for MSFS2025.

Yes. Best choice if you have access to both.

It's going to take the PMDG 737s coming over to 24 for me to actually remove 2020 from my system. Also, while it's a first-world problem the mental load of maintaining two sims (even with add-on linker) is real for me. I enjoy flying the BBJs, so I can either not fly them while I focus on 2024, or ignore 2024 until the 737s come.

As an example, I was flying on vatsim and. mis-filed as a BBJ. I spawned in on an a319 on 2024. I received my PDC, and rather than ask ATC to change my airframe type, I just loaded into 2020 since it was a good excuse to just fly the BBJ again. Only, once I got to my destination I realized I forgot to load the destination scenery. I had loaded it for 2024 and had mentally crossed that off.

Edit: Also, fly the sim that sparks joy. Don't fly the ones that don't. Don't let other people tell you how to enjoy your sim time.

I do tend to agree, I also have both, but mainly use 2020 at the moment. I do foresee a time when 2024 will surpass 2020 in both graphics and addons and I much prefer the flight model in 2024.

That's just because you (the OP) is afraid of getting older... 🤪

Now, jokes apart, there are some good reasons starting with new subtleties on terms of ground physics and flight dynamics that can be used to try to take out part of the limitations of the core physics modelo, more in the air than on the ground.

Also the scenery looks better on some aspects.

2024 simmers can enjoy a better scenery for GA flights. But there is still so many issues. It's not stable. Just read the official forums, and all the issues getting reported.

I don't have stability issues in 2024. In fact, currently I'm exclusively  fly long hauls in inbuilds 300/350, and now PMDG 777-200

For me, 2024 looks much better than 2020. I got it on day one and, yes, the launch was a mess. However, I was an Alpha tester in 2020, and it was not ready on day one either. 2024 runs very well with the SU2 beta and will only improve over time.

I now have a whole suite of hi-def aircraft and sceneries working smoothly in 2024.  From the reduction in load times to the ray tracing to super smooth performance, everything looks incredible.

I was anti-2024 until I got the Dev Mode FPS/VRAM usage meter figured out several weeks ago.  Now that I can monitor if I am in the green/yellow/red, I have had a MUCH better time, and am starting to migrate all of my aircraft over to 2024.  My weekend, long-haul, overnight flights have completed without issue for the most part.

Go back and search for this same topic on this forum.

Not a week goes by when someone posts something very similar!

You will never get a defining answer for your question!

I fly several flights a day using 2020, with zero problems, all my aircraft and add ons work, and it looks great. No need to move for me.
