FS24 horrible stuttering/hitching...cause?

Just recognize that FS2024 is still a wreck after 6 months and 2 sim updates, come on. On top of the awful performance, ridiculous draw distance, missing aircraft lights and contrails, airport elevation problems everywhere, assets popping in and out, UI regressions, ATC doesn't work, the AI traffic is a total mess... and I could go on.

Sterling performance, ultra smooth, nary a stutter anywhere in sight. Draw distances are fine and I do see the occasional popped in objects but it's relatively rare.  ATC has never been great in any MSFS product going back to FSX and nowadays who is using default AI traffic?   The entire experience is excellent in 2024.  Glad I'm one of the 'few'.

I thought RC in 2020 was really for only those using PG, but wasn't sure if that was true.  I stopped using RC in 2020 because I disabled PG.  Does anyone really know if we need RC if we have PG disabled in 2024?

That interesting, I have never heard that before.  I generally don't use PG either.

Back in January I rolled back to Win11 23H2

Unfortunately, I think I'm past the point of no return with the windows update...i'm stuck with 24H2

Yeah, no kidding. BUT, when it's smooth, it's beyond belief. I'm not biased towards FS24 in any way since I still enjoy FS2020 often. I will say though that FS24 is beautiful. Between the hitching, the FPS and smoothness is much better in FS24. I really hope they can sort this nonsense out because it's really getting in the way of a fantastic sim. Just wanna fly and not worry about performance -- i think most people do as well.

Since disabling the rolling cache, the hitching has been reduced significantly. In extremely demanding scenarios (iniJFK, PMDG, BATC, TLOD 400) it'll happen on occasion, but nothing show stopping, especially when it matters (takeoff roll and landing).

May I ask what your settings are, especially the traffic?

I had cloned the 23H2 install thankfully so could use that when I passed the 10d to roll back when 24H2 was installed by Win update.  This happened several months ago and got rid of the audio/video stutters that happened immediately after 24H2 installed.  In the past week something killed Win 11 and I was getting errors reminiscent of a drive failure so ended up doing a complete new install off of the Win 11 disk I bought last year for the new build.  It was actually 22H2 so was able to update to 23H2 then mod the registry to prevent 24H2 from being installed.  I bring it up in case you have an older disk and are willing to do some spring cleaning ;o).  I'm guessing what might have killed the recent install was having to hit the power button to turn MSFS 2020 off as I could not even get to Task Manager to kill it.  I'm afraid to run 2020 after that though not sure that's what killed Win 11 so will stay in 2024 until that issue is solved, whatever it is with 2020's shutdown.  I did test the drive (NVMe m.2) and it tested out fine.

I used the following video to do the downgrade, it worked perfectly. I did have to do a complete re-install of windows so make sure you backup all of your info on the C drive.

I am getting stutters when I hit ground effect (or thereabouts). I notice it more when it is raining, I do have clouds on medium to help with it.

I can't tell if it's streaming in the terrain around the airport or what.

Just because you don't have the issue that doesn't mean that it is not affecting a significant portion of simmers. The thread on the official forums has more than 1k views.

Trashing 2024 is just a fad.  A 1000 bad users out of millons is probaly within the margine of error.

Give it a rest because negativity does not help anything or anyone.  Its just negativity for maybe some ego expression thing.

Reality is way different because MSFS 2024 ROCKS!

I probably looked at that thread too and I count towards that 1k total, but it doesn't mean I have the issue.

I'm not minimizing some problem some people might be having!  If you were not characterizing me in that way, great.  I just wanted to point out that people for which 24 is running well, will not typically post about it...they are too busy flying.   It will be those who HAVE problems who tend to post/be the most vocal -- as is expected and proper.   Posting about problems is how we solve problems and gain knowledge about them.

I have seen some hitching and stuttering with the new rig I recently built but it hasn't been a show stopper. I did notice the stutters and hitching got reduced when I turned off "real time air traffic". Nothing like taking off from JFK and watching 20+ planes in close proximity with a few airliners flying backwards. 🫠

However I am an old fart gamer (67 this year). I was introduced to FS4 back in the early 90's. I was over the moon and scoured every pic on Genie Online when FS5 was about to be released. I dreamed of the day MSFS would look this good and now it does. It almost looks real tbh. So I put things in perspective and realize while some call it a game, sim, whatever. It is still software and there's no software on this planet that is 100% flawless. I also compare MSFS 2020/24 to X-Plane 12 and realize what a visual leap MSFS has put out.

I have also quit chasing Ultra settings and have settled on High End (9800X3D/64GB RAM/RTX 5080) and I can't tell a visual difference. For me MSFS 95% is very smooth and consistently hits 60FPS in 4K.

well, i bit the bullet and decided to downgrade...at this point, i'm probably not going to install FS2020...just too much hassle...may decide to check out x-plane though. As much as it was a pain to reinstall everything, it's been worth it. Audio/stuttering issues are gone...like, bye bye, see ya. Still need to tune windows for gaming, but otherwise, it's been very refreshing to just fly again.
