100% GPU Usage

Featured Replies

Just a question: do you run developer mode?

If or if not, you should check this, doesn't harm: enter options (of developer mode) and uncheck "smart docking system"

This setting let my GPU also run at 100%. Doesn't matter if any dev window is open or not.

  • I disagree.  MSFS is coded to load your vram up and also load your gpu fully - there's a dev explanation for that but I don't have it in front of me. Ideally MSFS swaps between CPU and GPU limite

Thanks all for the infos. I'm not using frame generation because I get 25-60fps with a relatively fluid experience. My take away is: I'll check the temperature and if reasonable I won't change anything.

No I'm not using developer mode. I dont quite get your point. You have developer mode ON in order to get 100%. I have developer mode OFF and I'm already at 100%. Why should I turn developer mode ON?

A 4070 Ti @ 4K is supposed to be maxed out in FS2024.

No issues considering that it runs at 73 °C. It will be totally obsolete before it breaks anyway.

I have found out, that the "smart docking system" enabled utilises my GPU to 100%. Reproduceable.
If I switch that off, everything is ok.

so, as hint for you, you simply can check if that makes a difference.
Smart docking system is found by enabling developer mode --> options

If it makes no difference for you, then it is of course something else. Was just a hint, maybe it helps

You should always take measures to stay below 100%, either by lowering settings, capping your fps or both.

You silly people...

Why you call people "silly" if the only "silly" thing is your comment? What do you think is the purpose of a benchmark e.g.? If it is not putting 100% load on your GPU, how do you think that measurment a) is comparable to measurment b)? Or any other benchmark of an actual game, like we see all over the place?

Having your GPU at or around 100% is THE thing you want. Reducing load by capping FPS or lower settings are only means to reduce power consumption and/or heat, nothing else. If you do not care about power consumption and heat is not an issue, there is NO reason why your GPU should not be running at 100%.

And it usually does. Or do you really think that people e.g. reduce settings or limit FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 or comparable GPU heavy games to avoid 100% load? Ridiculous.

"Oh well, I only get 50FPS, but because I should not let my GPU run at 100%, I better limit my FPS to 40". Sounds silly, is silly.

I wouldn't worry about any GPU degradation with those temps, they are fine and within normal temp range.

I rather worry about not getting fluid experience at 99% GPU utilization.

Also 99% usage means 2 things: 1. Your CPU is doing its job and it's not holding you gpu back, 2. you are not limiting your frames by enabling v-sync or an external utility like rivatuner.

Sure, if you're only using MSFS as a bechmark tool.

Good synthesis, thanks Carlos. Not perfect but I'm having a fluid and satisfying flying experience. I don't use V-Sync or external utility cause I have G-Sync.

I've experienced the most reliable smoothness, freedom from stutters/microstutters, and the best frame time variance by locking with at least 10% headroom above that to help cope with short transient peaks in demand.  True in 2020 and 24 as well.  If you're maxing out either CPU/GPU or alternating you will not have the smoothest possible experience.  RTSS front edge sync with passive waiting enabled still beats them all for native rendering.
