How is this possible on a home PC?

I think XP mobile runs most of the same code as the desktop ( @mSparks?).

and the UI there is perforce arcade. But the stuff going on behind the arcade inputs wouldn’t be.

AFAIK, controllers are just USB joysticks as far as the computer is concerned, so while XP might not be Plug N Play in terms of auto recognizing axes and such, it should be easy to do custom assignments.

aiui the main difference is in the graphics engine, otherwise its just the linux/apple build for everything else, they have an xlua build for mobile which covers the systems. but I don't really have special knowledge, just what they have said over the years.

it definitely does fairly well

of course there is also

This is a shot from over the Alps yesterday, never questioned if a sim could actually be "too crisp" before. This is heading North towards Mt Blanc - should have got some shots over the Chamonix valley, but was too busy looking at places I had skied, far too long ago .. ..

Yeah, in terms of believability of the environment (NOT terrain), XP12 has long surpassed MSFS for ME. In terms of the default airports too. I usually fly XP12 nowadays and every time I hop into MSFS 24 and see the LOD weirdness and melted photogrammetry, and lights in the middle of all taxiways, and just the absolute worst airport buildings, I just... it makes me want to turn it off and go back to XP.

Microsoft has unfortunately turned 2024 into bloatware and their very implementation of Beta cycles etc is just YEARS away from what XP does. I have a feeling the XP Store they are working on will also far surpass the MSFS Marketplace, because it seems Laminar is just polishing things a lot more before even releasing the Betas... Yes, there are bugs, as there should be, but, it's just a smoother experience. I still keep 2024 on my machine but rarely have a desire to fly it. It's just unfortunate, because we could have had TWO great sims, but MS had to muck it up with 2024. 😞

Ah, got you.  I wasn't suggesting if its in the sky it WILL be seen - as you say other traffic can be hard to spot.  In XP12 the traffic is going to be visible if conditions allow, where in MSFS it probably won't be because the LODs will cull the aircraft quite close by.

You must be referring to default AI traffic?  I use FSLTL w/ BATC in 2024 and I see lots of AI aircraft, about the right amount relative to time of day and location, including nav lights way way out in the distance.  I keep TLOD at 200, OLOD at 100.

No, live real world traffic using Realtraffic/Livetraffic.  You may see lights way out but you will not see the aircraft because they will be culled by MSFS.

Nah, that's been fixed in SU4 beta. You can see them miles away as tiny dots even.

Check that out. This is right now, live traffic. I've put the arrow to show the tiny plane, and if you use the drone and fly to it, you'll see it all the way.

Talk to Asobo. I’m tired of your constant negativity.

Constant negativity?

Well someone’s a little touchy, aren’t they?  I’ll think twice next time you post an MSFS screenshot in an X-Plane forum. I’ll try to be a bit more positive.
I’ll take something from your response. Either my standards are too high. Or your standards are too low.

Well, I took a look.  Loaded into Boston using PSXT/FSLTL for live traffic and the aircraft were culled shortly after take off.  Traffic flying overhead were invisible even though they were under ten thousand feet.

In the Su4 beta? Well, I don't know, it's working fine for me and many others, as you can see from my screenshot. Who knows what combination of settings makes your planes vanish..

This isn't an MSFS forum so I won't go further. Maybe check again when SU4 goes live.

Nah man, you are always negative about MSFS. I've been on these forums for years, I've read your stuff before.

Even now you're taking swipes at me. Sure, my standards are very low. If there are rules around posting screenshots, the mods can step in. I'm just an ordinary simmer that likes to talk to fellow simmers who are also enthusiastic about this fine hobby. This makes me happy.

I know you are an XP developer and therefore your livelihood is tied to XP doing well, so you can't be objective about this subject. I get it. I wish you well and hope your planes continue to sell well. It's good to have high quality developers around.

Not here for a fight about your sim or my sim or whatever. I don't care that much.

just grabbing a random SS from the XP discord, because I'm not sure you realise where XP is at now...

If you (or anyone else) doesn't have XP12, - or just doesn't  have it installed atm, and actually even if you do, I would recommend everyone have a scroll through the official xp-screenshots channel, there is a lot of "How is this possible on a home PC?" screenshots dropping in there, what you posted isn't really one of them - imho.
