MSFS2024 is on my system and will get used when the sound popping is no longer an issue. After the initial shock of stock XP12 graphics, I have found it to be an amazing sim with some addons installed, plus streaming satellite imagery. In many respects it is an advance over MSFS. Of course, MSFS does many things very well too, so it will always be on my system. Just the sound stuttering and crackling stopping me from using it. No way am I going to invest time with windows installations or reverting to earlier builds when EVERY other sim and game runs without the sound issues. It is bad enough that I have started using XP12, where I do not suffer the sound issues - I do not get the sound stuttering in any other sim or game with my system. AMD didn’t have sound issues … FYI the AMD CPU itself can’t generate sound, that comes from the motherboard and audio. But this “was” a problem for a while until resolved with BIOS/EFI updates and driver updates. Performance to price ratio of the 9800X3D is currently the best option for a new build. I wouldn’t recommend any Intel 13 or 14 series due to the oxidation issues in 13th gen and excessive voltage issues in 13 and 14th gen. The voltage issue was “resolved” by a reduction voltage and reduced frequency resulting in lower performance. For RAM, 32GB min For GPU, AMD7900XTX 24GB or AMD9070XT 16GB or nVidia 3090 24GB. I’d recommend the AMD 9070XT 16GB if you plan to stay at 1920 x 1080 (should not run into VRAM exhausted issues). Rob. July 17, 2025Jul 17 The sound crackles and stuttering were really bad for me when I had a 9800x3d and a 4080 super. Departing Klax was a nightmare. Sometimes the audio would crackle so bad it would ctd. Never on the ground while taxiing, only after takeoff. In early May I swapped my 4080 super for a 7900xtx. Have not had any sound popping since then. I wonder if the 9800x3d prefers amd gpu’s.

True, as I never had these issues in 2020. Nor did my son have these issues in his games. For some reason the issue completely resolved itself with the 7900xtx in 2024. Now, the only time I use 2020 is when I want to fly pmdg 737. For all else, it’s 2024.

I'm having a good time with my current setup, which has a lesser CPU than your proposal (specs in signature). If you wish, you could also consider a 9800X3D instead of your i7. I don't need 64 GB RAM yet, but it depends on the addons in use. Right now I'm not in a hurry. July 17, 2025Jul 17 If you want to shave money off on the CPU side and put that shaved money into a better GPU, that would be a good decision. With any of the 3 CPUs you listed, the bottleneck will still be the GPU when it comes to MSFS 2024. Put as much money as you want into the GPU side. nVidia DLSS is better than AMD FSR … I personally don’t like any technology than reduces image quality in exchange for higher FPS (especially in a flight simulator) so I have no interest in what DLSS or FSR offer. However, with that said DLSS 4 will get you better image quality (relative to FSR) and higher FPS than FSR. In summary, get the cheapest of those 3 CPUs you listed and spend more on the GPU. July 17, 2025Jul 17 Author The problem with spending more on a GPU is that the prices rise exponentially with each step up in power.
