MSFS 2024 performance

Featured Replies

Your proposed config is fine, just go for 32GB RAM.  I am happy with 1080p also.. on a 27" monitor.

Logically I'd go with @St Mawgan.  If AMD IS the cause, then those with non AMD systems wouldn't experience the issue.  I do not know enough about the issue to sway what the cause is, but it stan

  • That should be more than enough to run MSFS 2024 at high to ultra settings 👍

  • Outside my budget when I was young, TRS-80 Color computer 32KB with upgraded “bubble RAM” for 64KB. My first Intel based PC I could afford was Packard Bell 386SX … for work I had a Compaq 286 wit

Why is it so hard to accept that not every product is 100% perfect and does not work all the time ?

No, what's hard to accept is people presenting completely unvalidated statements as fact.

Because I changed everything. I had a X870E Hero, X670E Extreme, and a MSI ITX X870E. Tried different RAM kits and so on. I deleted the rolling cache, bought an extra 4TB M.2 drive extra and only for the rolling cache, and much more. I really tried every single "solution," but nothing worked.

I had the Core 9 Ultra before, but I was a bit unhappy with the general performance (bought it at release). I had no issues with sound stuttering then. But when I switched to the 9800X3D, the stuttering began. I hoped the 9950X3D would fix it, but nope. So I went back to Intel with some nice CUDIMMs, delidded it, and now the performance is great; and the stutters are gone again.

So for me personally, and for many others, the problem seems to be AMD.

Are you using onboard system sound from MB or a discrete separate sound card?

If you still have the 9800X3D or 9950X3D maybe you could sell it to Christopher, now we know there is nothing wrong with them?

I was thinking of 32GB DDR5-6000 RAM in 2x16GB sticks.

As for the moustache, I do not have one of them at all, but even if I did, it would not be ginger

If you can afford the margin, go for 64Gb for 2024 Chris, for future proofing.  I've had use cases where physical system RAM use went above 40Gb. (Caveat: at extreme settings in 4k)

2024 uses way more system RAM now versus prior releases of 2024.  You might consider 64Gb as it's cheap and will cut down on paging as well.  I have 24Gb of VRAM, and almost never see more than 14Gb in use now in the most complex areas w/ maxed out settings, whereas when I first installed 2024 saw as high as 19Gb frequently in areas where its 14Gb or less now.  This bums me out because it's clearly using more slower system ram, presumably done to help people w/ low VRAM amounts, Xbox, etc.

Not to open another can of worms but I'm convinced that going from 32 to 64GB made a massive difference for me. I'd never put together a new PC with less than 64 now.

Doesn't matter. The sound in the sim will pop for like a second then continue as normal. No where else. To me this is a sim issue that i've noticed starting happening very occasionally since SU2 and it  appears to occur when the sim is under transient maximum load (Changing views in heavy airports/airliners for example). For me this stutter is so temporary (a second at most) that it has not been worth complaining about but i understand it could be something consistent for others.

If this occurred on any other application i was using i would give blaming the PC platform some credence but nope every other application that uses sound works flawlessly .. on the motherboard DAC or not (I have 4 sound options or (DACS) to choose from on my system 1 on board and 3 external all work fine.

But back to topic..

To the OP the specs look very good for your projected resolution. You should be good to go. 32GB of high quality ram is also more than adequate presently (1080p). 64GB is a nice to have.

Is this a dangerous assumption... are you saying there is hard data to support a one for one swap as you outline, or is it more likely that they've simply optimised assets and LODs to reduce the VRAM required without actually palming it off to system RAM, because I'm not seeing a substantial increase in system RAM use? (I run TLOD 500 and OLOD 200 in 4k ultra)

These chips are causing many problems with MSFS2024, such as sound stuttering and other issues.

My system runs MSFS smooth, but the sound stuttering was one of the reasons I went with XP12.  No sound stuttering at all in that sim (or any other game/sim I have).

Skynet is a hungry beast  I will certainly consider 64GB, as memory seems to be one of the cheapest components in modern PCs.

Mine did for sure.

I like to run ultra uber settings and at 1440p I was constantly paging out beyond my 32GB ram.

64 has made a huge difference especially when I run addons.
