August 25, 2025Aug 25 I'm too young for that 😂 Seriously, I can't believe it's been 20 years this month since I took this hobby. And trust me, FS has been a tough brain gym💪🏻 Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. August 25, 2025Aug 25 Author I started in 1992, slowly gaining momentum first with FS4, then Flight Assignment ATP Rev. D... FS5... I sometimes think it does help making my brain work 🙂 Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
August 25, 2025Aug 25 If enjoying the scenery, setting the weather to "calm with clear skies", and flying on autopilot until short final keeps my brain active, then yeah......I'm in! August 25, 2025Aug 25 I've been flight siming since 1985 (wow, I just realized - 40 years & going strong). I prefer study level (or close) airliners, live weather and airline routes. I fly for a virtual airline to help keep me motivated. My oncologist thinks my level of involvement in flight siming is a definite benefit for my overall health and quality of life. He is actually encouraging me to keep it up, and thankfully, my wife was with me for that Dr. visit and heard him say so. 😀 Glenn Wilkinson Spoiler My specs: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X @ 3.7 GHz, 32 GB 3200MHz DDR4, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 12 GB, 2TB SAMSUNG EVO Plus SSD M2, 2TB WD Black Gaming SSD M2, 8TB WD Black Gaming HDD, 4TB WD Black Gaming Ext HDD, Windows 10, X-Plane 12 + large quantity of 3rd party addons scenery & aircraft. Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo, Thrustmaster TFRP. It's an older machine but gets the job done quite nicely - smooth with no stutters!
August 25, 2025Aug 25 haven't watched the video but after 40 plus years simming since 1981, and being a professional bizjet pilot, I still use FS DAILY it's not only boatloads of fun, I couldn't remain as sharp as I am without it we only fly our bizjet for work about 150 hours per year.
August 26, 2025Aug 26 I have been using flight sims since the late 1980's. They have certainly become more advanced, more detailed, and when flying with as much realism as possible within a sim, it is mentally stimulating. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.
August 26, 2025Aug 26 Twenty-five years so far. I'm 78, just about got the sim where I want it, all the hardware and software that I thought I needed, then realised that I hadn't flown for a month. No longer enjoyed it. Solution - go back to basics, learn it all again, but better. This very positive video cheered me up no end 🙂 Rob Jones.
August 26, 2025Aug 26 Moderator Got my first computer in December 1992 having discovered flight sim. A boss at work acquired a couple of floppy disks with Microsoft flight sim on it. Loaded it onto the office PC and I was hooked. 33 years later I’m still enjoying P3Dv5 and various jets including Concorde which stretches your brain like no other aircraft. No signs of losing interest but with the great summer we’ve had in the UK this year I’ve flown very little. Great hobby for the retired. 👍 Ray (Cheshire, England). August 26, 2025Aug 26 Hi, I rarely post as I feel I've little to contribute. This time I might encourage you Guys to persist simming into your future. I began with FS4, and fly P3DV5.3 every day in VR. I've just landed at GCFV from EGNT via LFBD. I used to fly a study level 737 but nowadays a Falcon 50 for an outfit called The Magpies. Oh! I forgot to say I'm 92. Cheers, Jim H. Well, here in Portugal our oldest glider pilot flew until 92yo, and he had to change his license to the UK because the Portuguese authority stupidly wouldn't allow him to keep soaring 😕 In simulation I know of at least a former TAP captain, from the Era of the Dakota and later the Connie, the Caravelle, the 727, 707, 747, L-1011, and started using flight simulators at 84, and continues past 94 yo !!!
