Service dogs on commercial flights...

Featured Replies

Just one reason (of many) why I wouldn't fly commercial...

From an aggressive pit bull to a first class passenger being downgraded to give his seat to a service dog it's becoming a problem.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

If that was me, the dog would have gotten a swift kick in the butt and I would have peed on the owner's
leg!  But that's just me! 😉

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Yet another reason not to fly on the absolutely awful, cattle-car airlines.

I remember years ago reading in an airline forum one pilot commented on this subject that if you are so insecure or unstable that you can’t function without Fido within cuddling reach you shouldn’t be on an airplane.

No flying here since 1995. I watch the classic commercials from the 60's so i can see true airline service.

As we express our opinions and can't control our anger, the issue here is not the "service dog". An animal that is trained and certified as such (worldwide recognized and accepted by almost all airlines) is not the problem. An animal (dog or whatever it is) trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability, such as guiding visually impaired individuals, providing mobility support, or alerting to medical events like seizures. These dogs are trained to assist people with disability by performing specific tasks to enhance their independence, pride, and quality of life. These dogs are trained to mitigate disabilities such as PTSD, traumatic brain injury, mobility limitations, and hearing or vision loss.
YET WE HAVE PEOPLE THINKING TO KICK THEIR BUTT INSTEAD OF TAKING ISSUE WITH DISRESPECTFUL OWNERS OR AIRLINE PERSONNEL NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES.
Very disappointing to see this reaction!

Tough crap!  The owner never took care of his animal!

I agree that the problem is the owner, not the dog. Please express your dissatisfaction with the owner and airline personnel.

I agree service dogs give aid and comfort to those need it.  Once a month a lady who trains service doges comes to the warehouse here with one of them and we get see what they can do and pet them.

The issue is not the dogs.  The issue is with the people they are with not sufficiently controlling them.  Every passenger on the plane is entitled to a peaceful, comfortable flight.  They should not be expected to surrender those two entitlements to accommodate, not the service dog, but it's owner.  Sometimes a disabled person's demands should be rebuffed when those demands are made to a passenger, a stranger, who just wants a peaceful flight.

I'll sit next to the dogs, it is the people I don't get along with.

Indeed, unfortunately, we have become worse than animals. So much for the evolution of the human race.

Not only the airline service, but how people traveled as well.  I remember the first time I flew by myself when I was 12 years old from San Francisco to Milwaukee to spend the summer with my sister's family in 1969, I actually wore a suit and tie. 🤣

I think that clever seating arrangement scheme was made by the dog, and not by the dog's man.  So I blame the dog!
