I mean what do you expect from a developer who fakes a birthday cake for himself? This guy is full of himself and either needs to change his attitude drastically or go under.

  • I think that’s the main issue with SI. It’s becomming so bloated, almost an enterely different product. And you either subscribe for all or for none. I subscribed for the core ATC features. I don’t ca

  • I'm looking at this from a big picture and if I use MSFS for the next 5 years for example there isn't a chance in anyplace warm that I am paying $1,000 for ATC over that term.  Sorry SI.  It's not eve

To put their price in perspective: ForeFlight, the EFB almost everyone uses in GA fights IRL, costs $250/year for their IFR tier plan ("Essential").

I have been a paying custom of SAI for more than a year. I wanted to support the developer and It did help my early instrument training. However, I didn't see they made significant progresses in the core ATC function. For instance, still no pop-up IFR?

I simply can not justify keep paying SAI the price of my current ForeFlight plan at the moment. I may give SAI a few more months: either they make significant ATC improvements, or reduce the price to $10 for me to just keep the core ATC function. I truly don't care all those bloated stuff they added in recent updates.

just announced on their discord, they're dropping the price to a dollar lower than it was before they raised it.

Anyone who already paid the higher price will get an account credit to make up for the difference in pricing, you can also request a direct refund. Those who are already paying the old price will just be switched to the lower price.

💬 FAQ

1) Why did the price go up and then come back down?
The initial increase reflected ongoing higher costs, and no signs of reversal. Within days, we secured a major cost reduction from our cloud partners — allowing us to not only reverse the increase, but lower prices even further. The timing was extremely unexpected, but the outcome is great news for everyone.

2) Is this a limited-time discount?
No. This is our new standard price, made possible by long-term savings from our vendor agreement.

3) I paid $23.95 recently — what happens now?
You’ll automatically receive an account credit for the difference between $23.95 and $18.95. If you’d prefer a direct refund instead, email [email protected]
and we’ll handle it right away.

4) What about annual subscribers?
ALL annual subscribers will receive a pro-rated account credit for the remaining portion of their subscription, based on the new rate.

5) Do I need to do anything?
No — the new pricing applies automatically on your next renewal or billing date.

6) When will I see the credit?
You should see the credit on or before November 14th.

And that just 8 days after the price increase… unbelievable.
It’s a shame, really — it’s a good product, but I can’t (and won’t) support this kind of company policy.

BATC and VATSIM are the better — and more affordable — alternatives for me.

Cheers,
Markus

He had the possibility of lower the price and offer it to the (potential) customers as an offer and those are able to take that offer or leave it.

Yes, after a price increase this is a bit strange. But, if you focus on the result instead of the path to this results it is a win for those who are affected or will become customer

I love a good conspiracy theory, but I don't see how Brian comes out ahead raising the prices and then immediately lowering them.

There are a few QOL things about SI I like:

  • You can force it to use Simbrief or Active Sky weather. Since most of what I do is short hauls this eliminates any issues with AI giving you a completely wrong runway. I am willing to play by AI's rules to a certain point, but when it gives me a runway I can't even depart from it is glaring.
  • It integrates with the 2024 EFBl. I tend to use auto respond and I don't have to tab out to a different app to remember what it said.
  • You can use it, coupled with traffic for multiplayer with a group code. I have a few friends who don't Vatsim but do use SI so this a convenient way for us to fly together.

VATSIM

Man, I am kinda with you. My preference is Vatsim, but a lot of the challenges with Vatsim are hard to overcome. Aside from the coverage issues, even if you have coverage it's using something like LA Center popping on with no support. It's too much of a mess to try and depart in that scenario. Plus the overall mic quality for a lot of a lot pf people is rough. It's also the focus required. If I am flying before bed, Vatsim is a tough thing to wind down the day with.

What likely happened is that a ton of people cancelled when they raised prices, threatening their existence. This has the feel of a knee jerk reaction.. they magically managed to both start and finish a negotiation with their upstream providers that allowed such a massive drop, so quickly ? Nah, not buying that story.

My version is that they had no need to raise prices (except more profit), pushed it too far, and are hastily backtracking.
