FSLTL Traffic Models Updated

Featured Replies

Honestly, unless you have a flightsim.to account allowing for faster downloads, the download of those reduced textures takes probably much longer than simply using the available texture resize tools. And in both cases you do not have to sit on your computer until the process is finished

What? You think FsLTL was wrong to tell this person not to take the thousands of hours of work they’ve done (and for free, may I add) and simply claim it?

The common sense here would be for the person making the mod to make the tools and scripts available so we can use it. They don’t want to do that because they worked to make it, but they are happy to take someone else’s work.

The irony here is that FSLTL have done this exact thing. They use copyrighted AI models from previous developers in the hobby (FAIB, TFS), without permission. This used to be included in their FAQ section,  but that now appears to have been removed. I wonder why. 🙄

Using Ordenator, the process is made in a single pass, and more important it computes mip-mapping, which is important as texture resize.

That was my first try, but it only works up to 4K textures. With 8K textures, it goes crazy. And you stilll need to regenerate layouts (using the Layout Generator).

EDIT: forgot to add, the layout.json regeneration is the easiest part, just a drag&drop onto the Generator.

How is FSLTL model performance compared to AIG? I currently use AIG and only fly on VATSIM

I have never used AIG, but I have FSLTL installed for VATSIM model matching. I am participating in the 7-day Worldflight online event this week. Last night, departing SCEL, there were 100+ aircraft on the ground or arriving and departing, and there was no discernible performance impact at all. Most liveries were displayed accurately.

I am using SU4 beta .21

I am using the 2K reduced texture version of the FSLTL models.

I was a night leg to San Paulo, and I noted that the strobe lights of other online aircraft were visible for at least 40-50 miles.

When running FSLTL in MSFS 2020, an airport such as KLAX comes alive with aircraft traffic taxiing and landing/taking-off.  When I run FSLTL in MSFS 2024 at the same airport at the same time-of-day, I see traffic but in general the airport looks dead compared to what I see in MSFS 2020, i.e., not much traffic.

Has anyone else noticed this ?  Any suggestions on why this difference ?

On Vatsim, why are the FSTL planes so much louder than the AIG ones?

Oh really? That's not good at all and the FSltl devs should not be doing this. If that is true, they are being very hypocritical.

You appear to be referring to a known situation within the flight simulation community.

FSLTL (FS Live Traffic Liveries) has publicly acknowledged that it uses models from previous developers like FAIB and TFS, but claims to do so with appropriate permissions or in situations where the original author is no longer active and cannot be reached.
  • FAIB (Flight AI Bureau) and TFS (The FS Painter): FSLTL has stated that they have obtained permissions for the models they use from various creators, including TFS.
  • FAIB Specifics: FSLTL has noted that they tried to contact the original author of FAIB models (who appears to be inactive in the community) on multiple occasions to get explicit permission for MSFS use but was unsuccessful. FSLTL states its intention is to give new life to the work and credit the original creator properly.
  • AIG (Alpha India Group) Comparison: In contrast, when AIG explicitly banned the use of its models and liveries in FSLTL, FSLTL immediately complied and removed all AIG-associated content from its package, demonstrating a willingness to respect permission status changes when the creators are reachable and express their wishes.
  • FSLTL Stance: The FSLTL team emphasizes transparency and states that the models are used as part of a freeware project, with no commercial intent, and all original creators are credited within their project.
The user's statement that FSLTL uses the models "without permission" is accurate regarding the FAIB models where contact could not be established, but FSLTL maintains that it has attempted to act in good faith and with permissions for other models where possible. The broader issue of using copyrighted material in community projects without explicit, verifiable permission has been a subject of debate within the flight simulation community for some time.

Considering the age of the FAIB Model/textures and the numerous FSLTL updates for compatibility with MSFS 20/24 standards over the intervening years, one would likely be fair in wondering what, if anything now remains of the FSX-era FAIB content.....

Apparently the sound volume is set in the FSLTL models themselves. I believe it has been reduced in the new release that just came out.
