MSFS2024 SU4 BETA BUTTER SMOOTH (incl. Data CapFrameX)

I captured about 7 Minutes, out of different flight sequences of my flight. From TakeOFF, CLB, CRZ today, MMUN - SCEL.

The Data is Aggregated in my CapFrameX Tool so you have one graph of frametimes. Important: FrameTimes give you a perfect idea of smoothnes.

This was in VR!!! Varjo Aero wit 35 PPD (and 4k upscaled in OPENXRToolkit).

Without VR it is exact the same smoothnes. So you get an idea!

My PC is well setup, 9900X3D, 5090RTX and Varjo Aero used in this test. PMDG 777, MMUN and SCEL installed (as well other addons (about 150+).

FrameMax Setting in SIM 45 FPS

VArjo Aero 45FPS

Nvidia App in use with Smooth Motion on

So Butter Smooth I never saw any of the previous SU´s in MSFS2020 AND MSFS2024 neither in P3D

How about showing us the videos to let us judge if you recorded your data in a halfways challenging enviroment?

  • Smooth motion has nothing to do with DLSS. You can use it with TAA as well, or DLAA. So if you use DLSS or DLAA the blurrieness may stay. I use DLSS and that did not improved but I am used to it and

Same here with a 3090Ti. Smooth as silk.

Just tried to use smooth motion with 4070 and it won't work only 50 series cards it says?

Videos? Sorry, do not have them. You may judge while testing at your PC yourself. It is easy to setup and use. Takes view minutes in total, maybe 20 if you delete all the caches rolling cache etc, after installing the nvidia app etc.

My route was from MMUN to SCEL the captures took place above landscape mostly. Not as demanding as europe, but europe is also much more smooth in SU4 Beta compared to SU3.

So I've heard,  am anticipating the release.  Not in the beta.

I hear you. I couldn't wait and tried it. All of my planes work but some apps dont (atmos core and gsx) and so far its amazing. Going to get the BS Baron/nanza and see if they work.

Up there it's always been very, very smooth for me.
The case where it gets interesting is down low, especially over forrested areas, e.g. Japan's mountains, or huge airports with lots of objects.
Could you give us some measurements there?

It does work in VR! I tested the differences and it is huge. It adds a frame and makes 45 to feel like 90 FPS. There are several videos at youtube as well (Virtu-Sim and VRFlightsimguy) and they fly mainly in VR as well

Important is, that you need to set the in sim FrameRateLimiter to half refreshrate of your HMD (most likely 45 or 36, depends on your HMD refresh rate, native 90 or72Hz)
That did the trick for me in combination with smooth motion. In my case night and day difference.

Yes, NVIDIA Smooth Motion is designed to work for VR, though it was initially introduced for GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs in a recent update to the NVIDIA App. The feature works by enhancing frame rates and smoothing out performance in a wide range of games, which can also improve the VR experience.

How it works
  • Driver-level frame generation:
Smooth Motion enables a form of frame generation at the driver level, which helps increase the frame rate in games that don't have native support.

  • Global control:
It can be activated globally for all compatible games through the NVIDIA App, simplifying the process of improving performance in VR titles.

  • Compatibility:
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX GPUs are designed to be compatible with all major VR headsets, and the drivers include performance updates for VR titles.

Thank you!!! When smooth motion was announced released, I turned it on and was amazed how well it worked and that it seemed better than native FG. But since I most often fly in VR, I then turned it off for most of my flights (VR). All this time I should've had it on :).

I don't usually listen to AI generated results but this is what it had to say -

NVIDIA's DLSS Frame Generation (FG) is generally superior for games that support it, as it provides higher quality and lower input lag by using game-specific data like depth buffers. Smooth Motion is a new driver-based feature on RTX 50 series and some RTX 40 series cards for older games that don't support DLSS FG, but it often has more artifacts and can cause more input lag. Therefore, use DLSS FG when available, and use Smooth Motion as a fallback for older titles where it improves the experience.

Yes....but DLSSFG does not support VR. Smooth motion does. That's the reason I get better results in vr

Sounds like you are using the best options available to you then, as a VR user.

Do you disable Varjo Base motion reprojection or do you use both forms of frame generation together?
