I love the fact that the desktop is running Flight Simulator 1.0.

Also, the phone number at the end works - call it.

  • And for free as expected. And for those who don’t like it and will be along to complain shortly - you do know that you aren’t forced to install or play it? Just ignore it!

  • I tried a very quick round with both. Grafically there's no difference. At least I would say, the new one runs at about 5 frames lower.   I find the new one a bit easier and good-nature

  • Finished all of the missions, they were a nice diversion from "normal" flight simming. With assists on it was overall a jog in the park, but I'm sure the skilled heli pilots will have some fun with th

Is the actress that plays Robin (Uma Thurman's daughter, as I understand it) in this addon?  Total babe if you ask me.

That's hilarious, whoever did it actually sounds like the actor playing Murray. These promos are a ton of fun.

For the heli experts, looking forward to your reviews/takes on this Taog Huey, and its fidelity.

Regardless of the Stranger Things DLC and missions etc and whether one cares for them or not, the fact that we get a 2024 native heli from Taog is surely goodness.

Haven’t flown this one yet.

I bought the Huey for v2020 and really enjoyed it there.

but though it seems to work fine in v2024, the way it flies changed enough that I stopped flying it (while I keep in flying Huey’s in other sims).

in contrast, the Taog’s OH-6/H500 is one of the most satisfying helos I’ve ever flown in ANY sim.

so, I’m looking forward to giving this forked version a try and see how it handles!

but I know I’ll go back to the H500, no matter what 😎

p.s., fwiw: Taog is neck deep in their next project, the world famous Dauphin! A wonderful choice that fits well with Tags “retro” addons - REALLY looking forward to it.

This looks like it could be genuinely entertaining: emergency logistics and rescue work! 😎

Looks like thanks to this cross over - It's brought native night vision to MSFS2024. This should allow addon developers to add that with their own addons that would use such functionality.

Loving the Bell UH-1H Huey by Taog and there's little details like a fire extinguisher round the side of Benny's Burgers:

Don't get too close with the Showcase camera on Hawkins buildings-you'll get bumped to the roof, a regression Asobo has yet to fix from SU2/3.

That video is so well done. Absolutely nailed the style of 1980s TV ads.

And then I discovered this in the YouTube comments:

"Did nobody else notice the words popping up on screen spell out Hawkins Needs Pilots Now Send Help"

Wow.

When I read that this extension was coming, I didn't think it'd be for me, but now I'm strangely intrigued.

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!

If so, it’s a SUBSTANTIAL new feature.

are you familiar with IRL low light / thermal? How does it compare…?

I'm not familiar with it IRL or a developer - But here is how it looks in the Huey which is the only aircraft you can turn it on for now. Addon devs need to add support for it before it can be enabled in anything else (From what I have been reading in various Discords)

It seems you can have some sort of eye goggle overlay with it enabled. The brightness can be increase/decreased. Not sure how much control or options the developers have over it.

MS/Asobo posted a developer spotlight article on Taog: https://www.flightsimulator.com/developer-highlight-taogs-hangar/

Re: the night vision, from what Taog said on their discord, this is available in the sim platform for all aircraft to make use of and they'll be adding to some of their fleet. Apparently Miltech has also announced they'll add this night vision capability to their fleet.

I've given this a quick spin (get it?). I've done the tutorial and the first mission, and I like it so far.

I previously purchased the Taog Huey (though I haven't flown it a bunch), and the version included in the Stranger Things expansion seems to be very similar. The liveries are different and you don't get the civilian Bell 205 version, but on the inside it looks like pretty much the same aircraft, and it also seems to fly the same. One thing the Stranger Things Huey has that I believe the paid addon doesn't is a hoist version.

Five missions aren't going to keep you entertained for much more than an evening or two, but hey, they're free, and from what I've seen from the first mission are nicely done. Obviously, you need to buy into the fictional world of Stranger Things, but apart from that, these missions will need some real helicopter chops (groan). I don't think this addon will appeal to casual gamers -- the very first mission features a confined area landing and low level flight along a forest road with trees on both sides.

All things considered, this is a positive surprise. It sounded like a pretty arbitrary tie-in, but it's turned out to be a welcome reason to brush up on my helicopter skills, and there's a nice Huey from a reputable developer thrown into the bargain.

Sounds like heaven to me! 😎

thanks for your hands on report - makes me even more interested!
