Pause/Stutter In MSFS 2024

Featured Replies

 Hello,

I'm been running MSFS 2024 for a while now and Lately before SU4 its started to have Stutters or some may called it micro-pause. Has anyone experience this lately??

Its annoying that it stops for a few seconds at a time. Is there a solution to avoid it?? I appreciate very for any help or suggestion. Thanks in advance....

Short scenery loading stutters should be infrequent but do happen from time to time.  Nothing you can do.

Bert

It may sometimes be the nVidia Cache. To fix MSFS stutters by deleting NVIDIA files, you need to clear both the MSFS Rolling Cache and the NVIDIA Shader Cache (DXCache & GLCache). I created a shortcut to the folder and run through the simple and quick process each time I install anything new into the sim. Hi Bert! Long time no see!

Here's a useful vid that I follow if I forget how to do it:

If that's what it's doing the solution is going to be found outside of MSFS 2024 most likely.  It could help if you post your basic system specs:  CPU, GPU, RAM, OS, or Console.

System:  9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL  64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync.

Aircraft used in MSFS 2024:  Fenix A320,  Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.

If you have an Nvidia card, open up the Nvidia app (not the Nvidia Control Panel) and turn Smooth Motion ON. And then don't use Frame Generation.

Try the Nvidia video driver 581.80 instead of an earlier or a later driver.

Windows Display Settings Personalization, make sure the desktop image is Picture and not Slide Show.

If you hear a noise when it stutters, try to change MSFS Sound settings.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

Only for 40 series or above.

I just started having this issue also since I reinstalled 24. It’s really getting annoying. Just did a clean install of 24 and only added the pmdg 777 and then on the second time, only the 737. I also tried the current and the last Nvidia driver. 64gb ram,i9-14900k, 2tb and 1 tb ssd, rtx 4070 super. I’m even about to put in a 256gb ssd just for the rolling cache. Before I wiped everything to reinstall, the LRM debug log was nothing but “flight is now paused” “flight is now un-paused” any help would be appreciated.

I have never found anything useful with Rolling Cache and Nvidia Shader Cache, not to mention the tediousness of having to delete them. It always seemed absurd to me that if they are so useful why do they have to be deleted?

I Have both turned off (in 2024 there is a workaround to set Rolling Cache at zero MB) and have a VERY smooth experience, even with my ancient system with settings mostly on high and some ultra, TLOD 100-200 and OLOD 100.

2024 smoothness and lack of stutters/pauses is so superior to 2020.

I can't offer help because now the issue is plaguing me. I wonder if was caused by a Windows update?

Not advisable to delete the rolling cache anymore since SU3.  That was an early on fix.

Start with a fresh 64gb one and leave it alone.

I am having this same problem, I will be flying and on the ground when the sim pauses for almost two seconds then starts up again. I get smooth play in between these loading like pauses. I have done all the deleting of caches and still get this. It is very very annoying. I haven't tried using no cache yet which I will try next.

hoping someone can figure this out,

Anthony

I recently switched to 2024 after using 2020 and got some occasional stutters from time to time when flying along which did not occur in the older sim. I remembered that 2024 is streaming all of it's content and although my connection is quite good, I thought it may be the culprit. So I went ahead and downloaded all "streamable" content which was approx. 300GB worth of data. Disk space is no issue for me and it was the same with 2020. After I did that, the sims smoothness is now quite similar to 2020.

When researching about this topic online, I found that this solution worked for several people but not for all. So I can't say it's a definite fix for your problem, but if your internet isn't too slow to download the content and you have the disk space, it's worth a try.

I tried shutting off rolling cache, seemed to have stopped my giant pauses, I still get some small ones but I think that is from loading new scenery in. I can live with that for now but I hope this is the reason I had big 2 second pauses was using Rolling Cache.

Thanks

Anthony
