How is performance in XP 12 ?

Featured Replies

I have MSFS2024 (and XP11) and thought about XP 12 since it is on sale. But I have one concern. I have seen information that performance in XP 12 is worse than MSFS2024.
I use VR in my simulators. How well will my system handle XP 12 in VR ? My system
CPU 5800X3D Graphics card NVIDIA 4700Ti RAM 32 Gb VR headset HP Reverb G2
Will performance in VR be an unpleasant surprise compared to MSFS2024 ?

I can't speak for others, but X-Plane 12 is a hog on my setup compared to 2024. I can run seven monitors with 2024 only one with XP12 to get the same amount of flickers/stutters and I don't even run a 3D flight deck display.

You could just try the xp12 demo. Think it gives you an hour now. Limted airports but should give you some idea

12.4.x beta double my FPS … but I’m only single monitor 3440 x 1440.  Max out MSFS 2024 same scenery location and aircraft type in MSFS 2024 40 FPS, in XP12.4.x beta maxed out 60 FPS.  Sorry don’t know about VR.  For XP12.4.x beta I used SimHeaven, Maps Enhancement using Google Maps Pro, Orbx Trees, Default Airport Enhancement, FS Realistic, and a few other add-ons  … get’s me entire world coverage of Sat imagery including buildings.  It looks good, not great but the aircraft flight models and improved weather depiction make the effort well worth it.

But prior to 12.4.x beta, performance was not great, less than MSFS 2024 at about 25-30 FPS.

Must be a different XP12 to what I see.  With the add-ons you are using, plus the weather and lighting improvements, it looks spectacular.

CPU Ryzen 7800X 3D  RAM 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz GPU GEFORCE RTX 4090
Monitor AOC AGON AG352UCG UltraWide G-Sync @ 3440x1440
Internal Storage 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD
External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

You'll probably be disappointed with XP12 (VR) if you don't move the settings sliders to the left. I have a 9800x3D; 4070Ti Super 16GB; 64GB RAM, and to enjoy the full benefits of VR, I'm still using XP11 (sliders almost all the way to the right) ;-).

if using a 50 series Nvidia GPU turn on Smooth Motion it doubles your FPS

For me, the latest beta has improved a lot, not to the level of 2024 but to a fairly acceptable level.

In terms of graphics quality, I personally think XP12 looks much better with the add-ons I use than MFS2024 in general, but I suppose that's a matter of taste.

It's not a big deal, though. While I wait for the TBM hotstart to come out one of these days, I'm doing a tour across the American continent in 2024 with A2A Comanche and enjoying it just as much.

Download the demo. When it comes to simulators, every computer is different.

And for AMD use AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) 2.1 in the Adrenaline control panel. Can be turned on and on the fly with a hotkey.

Smooth Motion doesn't work in VR ...

I find it produces some horrible graphical glitches on my system.

CPU Ryzen 7800X 3D  RAM 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz GPU GEFORCE RTX 4090
Monitor AOC AGON AG352UCG UltraWide G-Sync @ 3440x1440

External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

it shoudn't create graphical issues

It also doesn't work on networking multi monitors.

TL, DR: v12 performance sits between v11 and 2024. Try the free demo 😉

XP 12 is SO worth the price, esp on sale.

that said, expect it to perform about the same as XP 11 while looking WAAAAY better across the board.

I have a few treasured addons on stuck in XP 11, and a ton of Orbx scenery, so I have to keep v11 installed.

Ill crank up v11 now and again, but really, its just not a satisfying experience any longer.

v2024 performs much better, in general, though, esp with high scenery settings.

However, the new XP 12.4 BETA gives a huge performance jump - IF you're presently CPU bound.

So far, the majority of my v12 addons seem to run just fine, from basic to Hi Fi, bug smashers to modern airliners.

So well so far that I’m hoping to be able to run the 12.4 Betas as my primary version. 🤙

in any case, get v12. Variety is the spice of life, and everyone needs a “backup” flight sim for when things go wrong.
