How do you use PSXT with SI? Doesn't PSXT just collect AI-liveries for use with RealTraffic?

  • I would mention FSHud as a major competitor for ATC programs as well.

Complaining? You  mean in this thread? I don't see that, in fact it's quite a good thread reading all the experiences. Hard to keep track of all the latest updates, so it's nice to read from other peo

I have flown with BATC and FSHud. I prefer FSHud.

It’s really not possible to compare these as SI is an expensive on going subscription while the others are a one time cost.

Naturally they cannot do a call to OpenAI every time - that’s what you’re paying for with SI, and those who find the $20/month acceptable pay for this exact feature - the ability to basically talk to ChatGPT in the cloud. This will always be more powerful than a local LLM.

Not like that. SI "may have" their own "AI agent" for which they pay either Gemini or OpenAI separately. People do that - my friend, who writes books and short stores, fed all of his books and articles to OpenAI and developing new stories based on the old ones 🙂 I see no obstacles in feeding the entire FAA regulation to ChatGPT 🙂   But that's my guess.

True.

SI does not see PSXT planes with exception of TCAS conflicts and taxiway crossings.

I use PSXT/AIG as traffic program and SI as ATC program, and they do not talk to each other. I'm flying historical flights 100% of the time, so I prefer to know both departing and arriving runways in advance (based on FR24 or Flightaware).

SI has its own traffic option (you may use AIG or FSTL planes with it), but in my opinion it's still far from perfection. BATC beats SI easily in this area. But we'll see.

Point is, there are API calls being made to an LLM running in the cloud on powerful hardware . That will always be more powerful than a local LLM running on your machine. And that cloud LLM will necessarily need a subscription.

Whether SI calls ChatGPT or Gemini or any other LLM or even its own model is irrelevant. They have ongoing costs that users have to pay for.

PSXT unfortunately, does not cooperate with ATC programs.

It does, the traffic from RT it is controlled by live ATC's  all over the world 😉

I've used all three, and currently am preferring SI, just about.  I'm just about happy enough to continue using it, but it's on thin ice.

-  SI hasn't vectored me into a mountain for well over a year.
- SI has a weird mix of accents, a pretty poor serving, and can often be incorrect.  Sometimes they are correct, and it's better in the USA.
- BATC doesn't have iPad integration, and I like that SI does.
- SI consistently and always routes me straight into oncoming traffic when I am taxying.  Every time I file a bug report, and every time I get routed into some A320 or something.
- I think SI performs better for a large amount of traffic.
- FSHud is good, but feels a little bit dated, and formulaic.  Very much flying on rails to waypoints on your iPad it looks like.  For example in SI I've been told to hold once or twice, which is a nice and unexpected thing to happen.  I'm told to maintain a certain speed, etc.
- BATC seems to have no real, believable traffic separation.  I've seen aircraft freeze in mid air waiting for other aircraft to get established and land.
- SI seems to have some better flows, but then there is always jankiness and some really random stuff happening.  Like someone will get cleared to land right in front of me after cutting me up.

I'm a bit miserable that after so long they are prioritising fluff around the edges of SayIntentions, while neglecting the core ATC experience which in my opinion hasn't improved much for a few months now.  I like the product, just about, and it's just about worth the money.  But I'd rather kick on and actually see some progress in the world of ATC in 2026.  We've got the basics down with all the products, now we need the polish.

I am quite tempted to fire up FSHud tonight.  The one killer for me is vectoring though.  Does it vector into mountains?  SI seems to be pretty good at avoiding this.

Another consideration is the weather and ATIS and assignments.  So FS2024 now gives you the option to have historical weather at any point in the last 24 hours, and I think BATC and FSHud are relying on totally live weather as of the current moment.  I may be mistaken though.

BATC can use historic weather since a while

Vectoring is really good in my experience. Never been sent into a mountain. Can’t say it doesn’t happen, but I’ve never seen it in my few months of usage.

My biggest (personal :-)) problem is very sparse amount of traffic for all three products comparing with PSXT. And yes, I've been always AI traffic-junkie.  Sorry.

I tried FSHUD & BATC and preferred BATC because of the voices. I wish the BATC team success in the future.

I was really surprised that this feature existed with BATC and it's a good selling point.  I didn't know it had this when I bought it.  But I was very happy when I realised it did!

Sparse traffic? With FSHUD I could get 200 AI planes on one airport, should be enough to fill each and every gate on most airports. Comparable amounts are possible with BATC. So what enormous amount do you get with PSXT?

Sorry, I meant active moving  AI traffic, both arriving and departing. With PSXT I have the exact number of planes that are supposed to depart within next 2 hours at their real gates, and I have 99% percent FR24 snapshot with arriving and departing traffic, assuming that all necessary AIG packages are being installed.

neither BATC nor SI nor FSHUD can reproduce it yet. SI is working hard in this direction but with limited success

Yes PSXT is a nice product and the only one that does actual real time real world traffic as far as I know. And of course, it has to be a subscription as well - no way to get real time data without that. At least not for consumers. MS has live data but i bet there are contractual reasons why they can’t do a 1-1 live match… they are giving us the live traffic for free.

I use BATC when flying UK planes as I mostly fly in Europe. Flying a German or any other European airline with an English or American pilot is a bit unrealistic. So enter my other, older ATC, PF3. That has a multitude of accented pilot voices with numerous airlines. A bonus is that it is now free.
