Lol, nice find. Well, now we know Gaya is involved in the PMDG 747 project 🤣

I sincerely hope, it’s NOT the case…🙂

Gaya, that I know myself, does not appear to be a potential participant in the development of the type of 747 that we’re all hoping for.

Oh well…who knows…

Gaya has a photogrammetry and 3D scanning division, that they use to scan the cockpit of planes: https://www.gaya-studios.com/services/photogrammetry

Seems like they are an expert in this area. It makes sense if PMDG contracted Gaya to 3D scan a 747 cockpit.

Where did anyone get the idea that this aircraft will only be in development for one year? The statement regarding a release in 2026 almost certainly means that it has been in development for a long time up to this point.

Their studio lead said this on their discord, exact quote: https://discord.com/channels/1466371111280181364/1468934257199157380/1476634921845133382
Q: When did development start?
A: Over a year ago

They haven't started alpha testing yet, so if I'm speculating very likely won't release until mid-2026 or late-2026 (if they are to make the 2026 goal even).

Project Griffin – Frequently Asked QuestionsThank you to everyone for the incredible response following last night’s announcement. The energy, support, and thoughtful questions have been amazing to see; we truly appreciate the engagement. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received so far. Please understand that some information will be shared progressively. We’re planning a series of upcoming “Spotlights” that will take a deeper look at areas of development and showcase what we’ve been working on; many of your questions will be answered there in more detail. We’re building this carefully and deliberately; and we’re excited to share more with you over time.

"Do we need the Asobo default 787 to fly the Vector 787-9?"
  • No, we are building the aircraft from the ground up.
"When did development start?"
  • We started development over 1 year ago in the shadows and now is the time to announce.
"Is it a big dev-team and where are they based?"
  • Yes, 20+ on the team, all seasonsed in flight sim development plus active 787 pilots. Primarily EU and Global.
"Will it have the Boeing EFB?"
  • Yes we will have the Boeing EFB and our own tablet for customizing things.
"Will the 787 have the airport map included on release?"
  • Keep an eye out for a future spotlight on features.
"Will it have an interactive cabin with seat class configuration like the real 787-9 out there?"
  • Yes it will. We have some very cool planned features for the cabin, and yes you can play with the toilet seat!
"Are liveries included?"
  • Yes we will have a core pack included with the aircraft and are planning for many more.
"When can we expect a release?"
  • We are aiming to release in 2026.
"Will there be auto-step climb, pause at TOD, Etc?"
  • We are simmers building this for simmers so some features for QoL will be included as options.
"Will there be a HUD?"
  • Absolutely yes.
"Will GSX and other third part apps be integrated?"
  • We are actively planning for integration of other 3rd party apps.
"Can you tell us what state the model/coding is in?"
  • We will be doing Spotlights over the coming months so you can see rather than us telling you a percentage.
"Is it built with WASM?"
  • Yes we are, WASM gives us the flexibility needed for a complex aircraft like this vs JS and XML.
  • Performance is a key driving factor for us, on PC and console.
"Is it payware?"
  • Yes, this is a commercial product.
"Is it full-simulation/study-level"
  • The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is one of the most advanced and integrated aircraft in modern aviation. Project Griffin is our response to that complexity.
"You stated best aircraft in flight simulation, that's a bold statement"
  • It is and we stand by it. We have a very clear view on how it should behave, how it should perform, look and feel across every phase of flight.
  • Project Griffin is Vector's statement of intent; our vision of what the best long-haul aircraft in flight simulation should be.
"Is this the first add-on for most of the dev team or do they have previous experience with other add-ons?"
  • Almost everyone on the Vector team has worked on previous aircraft in the Marketplace or default MS aircraft.
"How are the physics?"
  • We want Griffin to "feel alive", to respond to inputs, respond to weather, an aircraft you will love to fly over and over.
"How long did modeling take?"
  • We will doing a Spotlight on that in the near future.
"Who did the sounds?"
  • Again we will have a Spotlight specifically for sounds.
"Are you making the -8 and -10 also?"
  • We are actively developing the 787-9 and will reveal details about the -8 and -10 in the future.
"Have you gotten hands on with 787's IRL?"
  • Yes, we have active 787 pilots and ground crew on the team.
"For FS20 and consoles?"
  • Griffin is being developed primarily for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PC and consoles.
"Will an auto-save feature be included?"
  • It's something we are looking into as part of a wider feature.
"Will it include the GEnx and RR Engines?"
  • Yes both engines will be avialable to select in the Aircraft Selection Variants tab.
"Will there be a flight manual?"
  • Absolutely, a very detailed one with a scenario from point A to point B you can easily follow.
"Will it work on VATSIM?"
  • Yes, with holds, manual navigation control, Etc. You will be able to follow ATC instructions.
"Can I be an alpha/beta tester?"
  • When the time is right we will open a channel in discord for applications. We have a very strict testing regime, details of which will be posted in time.
"When can see what is next?"
  • We will be at FSWeekend doing a stage Q&A interview with FSElite where more details will be discussed.

Sounds promising and I am glad they acknowledged the 8 and 10 variants.  As with any new developer it will take some trial but unless they come up with some sort of prescription plan or early reviews are bad than sometimes you just gotta give them a chance.  With the gap between FSX and FS2024 its definitely in with the new and out with the old and we are bound to get some really talented developers coming along.

This one will be interesting tracking and if it looks good and the 1st few people who buy it like it I will buy it within a week of release.

Yes, that would be welcome, if PMDG wishes to outsource a specific component of the development to an external entity under their watchful eyes, despite GAYA not been involved in the past with airliner development of any kind.

After all, we just wish the 747 to be faster to the market, without, of course, compromising the quality of the final rendition.

[This (outsourcing) strategy may work or may backfire. On the topic of 787 and been an enthusiast of its production, from conception to delivery, I also now recall that Boeing outsourced significantly some of the 787 development components to external entities and was later forced to bring some of it back into the house, due to quality failures and production delays etc.]

I'm new to this. What's the controversy about GAYA? 🙂

Hi @Joshua757

GAYA has been primarily a "scenery" developer that has been around long before MSFS. I recall it clearly in from my FSX days. I believe they were also developing scenery for P3D and XP.

Anyway, GAYA received (supposedly lucrative) contractual assignments from Microsoft when MSFS started and have expanded rapidly in MSFS to develop and "handcraft" airport sceneries that we receive via the Software Updates. Their products are decent, and most importantly free to us in MSFS (e.g., their EDDF is one that I use often).

There are now apparently some indications that there have been pictures of a 747 Cockpit on the Gaya website, see above in this thread, with references to PMDG (since removed), which is raising the speculation that PMDG might be using Gaya's expertise on Photogrammetry and 3D skills, for their MSFS 747 project.

Of course, take all this with a grain of salt...🙂...

Oh yeah! This is real. Reading everything they put out, this is absolutely real.

now, am I expecting the best aircraft in flight sim? That’s a big statement.  I am, however, expecting something at least like the Ini A340. Give me a 787 of that quality and I’m in! If it’s bettter… well then!

Ohh I see. Good to know  :) Thank-you for explaining.

I'm excited to see what this will be like, it sounds incredibly good – I'm really looking forward to it, and if it's “just an MSFS2024” product and it's coming in 2026, it'll probably be more like the end of 2026, and I might be ready to jump on MSFS2024; and not just because of the 787, of course, but also because of the inibuilds L-1011 ( what is a fovorite Plane for me ) and much more, and still hoping at this time that we could be on at least SU7, ( ore more ) which would make a good impression on me, as it would be close to the safety, comfort, and stability of the current MSFS2020.

cheers 😉

I totally understand your caution regarding MSFS 2024. However, as someone who finally made the transition from MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024 after being "ultra cautious", I can confidently state that MSFS 2024 SU4 is every bit as "safe, comfortable, and stable" on my new PC as MSFS 2020 was on my old PC. The absence of GAIST in AI Offline mode is the only real disappointment.

Your plan sounds good to me, @pmplayer.

During my FSX Screenshots Forum years, folks used to tell me that I probably had the most no. of airliners there. I think in the MSFS Screenshots Forum, that title now belongs to you…🙂

Anyway, you already have your hands full with excellent airliners to fly. Don’t forget the upcoming A340-600 from AS/ToLiss, which is expected to be available for both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024, at least per their latest Stream. In fact, the Flight and Community Manager, Rafi of Aerosoft, has said so.

I’m sure you cannot wait to fly the A346 in the colors of your National airline, Lufthansa…🙂…And me too. It is still plying the Atlantic skies this week between Chicago and Frankfurt, just as it used to 20+ years ago, with me on it…🙂…with the same old LH/DLH flight numbers. It’s incredible…with great memories of a long-haul (quad-jet) stalwart that showed me the world (along with the legendary 747), whose time has come and now (almost) gone.

Next, the 787 will be delightful to fly in MSFS, on whichever platform it lands on, and whenever…hopefully soon. Let’s see.

Good times in MSFS, that I’ve never felt before.

Cheers…!

[Note: I’m glad to know that the A350 is now behaving properly…🙂… for you in MSFS2020.]

Ohh, 🙃 but i do not need a title somehow ( but Thank you ) i like to be in this community because I feel that I am in good hands here due to my hobby; I mean, there are nice people, good conversations, and that is not the case everywhere.
My support is more focused on the screenshot forum, which I really appreciate ( I am a screenshot enthusiast ), and I would like to support this work as best I can with my contributions.
And since I fly almost exclusively airliners and do so a lot, I can often contribute to discussions about them, which I often do – if I am familiar with the topic, that is always a prerequisite.
With that in mind, happy flight simming, everyone as they like...

To Christopher Low:

Thank you, I like to soak up this information so that I can always get an idea of MSFS2024. I'm still too cautious to switch over, but at some point I'll have to do it (at least as long as I'm doing flight simulation). This is something we know from the old days; at a certain point, there's no other option because the ‘old’ version is no longer supported.
As I mentioned, I think I'll take the plunge and switch to MSFS2024 at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. I'll probably be on the safe side, and I don't mind because I can wait that long.

cheers 😉

@pmplayer
TBH, I picked up the 777 and the 350 for myself (in Xbox), only after seeing your screenshots there in the other Forum.

I wish I had more time to spend there than here. It’s much easier, I’m finding, to comment than compose a pictorial account of your flight…🙂…Oh well, we learn from both places and there are indeed nice (and patient) people (professionals and non-professionals) on both Forums. It pains me to see some of those nice folks slowly peel off as will be certainly the case for the rest of us too.

I wish they had the (MSFS) MD-11 in the Marketplace. I cannot stand the sight of your repeated MD-11 screenshots…🙂…just joking, of course…

Cheers…!
