New User, New Computer

Featured Replies

Hi., So it's been about 14 years away from msfs. Just got a new computer and msfs 2024. Need help on what my setting should be since msfs now has SO many more settings than before. Computer is a HP Oman with Intel Core Ultra 7 265f 2025, 16 gig ram, Nvida GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 16 gig Vram. Need help with the Graphic setting like should I lock FPS, ect. Don't know what alot of the Graphic settings do in msfs. Thank you for any help.

Farlis means well. 😊

Just let the sim assign what it thinks your PC can handle. Then, over the course of the next 'who knows how long' turn various settings up from low to medium, see what it looks like, and so on. When you find a setting that causes you trouble, turn it back down.

Don't turn on the FPS counter. It will rule your life and cause you more angst than you knew existed. Use your eyes.

What will follow now is a series of 'Best settings' but bear in mind they are only the best settings for that particular person

Good luck.

EDIT: The sim has a tendency to underestimate what your PC car cope with, so don't be too shy with the settings.

Thought of something else

16GB ram is too low.  You need 32 as a minimum with all the streaming.

Sadly it's a trend nowadays for manufacturers to only put 16 in because of ram prices.

The PC otherwise is a medium-high end rig.

For now I'd start at HIGH preset with a TLOD of 200 and OLOD 100 and see how that goes

Here we already go:

Ron: turn various settings up from low to medium, see what it looks like, and so on
Ryan: for now I'd start at HIGH preset with a TLOD of 200 and OLOD 100 and see how that goes.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base & hegykc MFG Crosswind modded pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S for VR

I have the same GPU and rarely go over 40% VRAM since SU4.  YMMV since you only have 16gb main ram.

Remember, MSFS 2024 was designed for an XBOX.

So I keep telling myself.....

Initially, I would try limiting fps in the sim to 30.  That should take some load off the CPU/GPU and still provide a smooth simming experience.

Try popping up the xbox game bar (Windows key + G) and look at the performance tab.

That gives you RAM and VRAM usage and tells you if you are close to maxing out.

Trying to run MSFS2024 with the minimum spec RAM? Good luck with that.

Well guess it will run fine. Have preset setting to High. Flying over Los Angeles win G shows   CPU 35, GPU 66, Vram 48, Ram 76, FPS 98

Great news. Hope you enjoy this new chapter of MSFS as much as I have.👍

Ignore the naysayers.  Consider your system perfect for MSFS. 🫡

I mean it's a vanilla sim sure.  16GB will be stretching things with a bunch of addons though.
