A Diamond in the Rough - Aerosoft CRJ

I’ve really enjoyed this plane since the v2 update. Some minor issues but easily one of my favorites in the rotation.  Paired with the Boris sound pack it’s lovely.

I found v2 to be pretty good.  Most of the weird bugs I had with v1 were corrected.

Loved flying this plane after the V2 Update.

I ran some South African Express and Skywest Ops and it was a real treat. Hand-flying is nice and landing can be a bit of a challenge as it's different to most aircraft. There's also the characteristic nav switching which works half the time (as it does irl).

The EFB is really great and intuitive that supports lots configurations and GSX sync support.

I personally fly in VR, yes the text is a little small but I manage. Honestly a great little regional plane.

I heard Han is doing a 2024 native version of the CRJ, anyone know if thats true?

I believe I read that somewhere too...

why can't you guys who can't see the fonts, use chaseplane and have premade zoomed in views?

How broken is the vnav/lnav though. Because im thinking about buying this soon possibly

There is no VNAV, there’s only advisory VNAV.

The LNAV is perfectly respectable to its real life counterpart.

Scratch that I think there’s an optional VNAV but I personally never used it as it’s a rare option irl

Oh so there's no vnav in real life right?

CRJs were later on given the option of coupled VNAV where the aircraft would pitch accordingly but pilots were still required to manage speed/thrust. This option was standard on later CRJs but advisory VNAV was preferred

the CRJ in-sim offers both coupled VNAV and Advisory.

sorry for giving you the run around I was catching up on my CRJ knowledge

Really? I cannot seem to get it to fly

an RNAV “T” approach even if I’m under 170 kts with no wind. The LNAV just wonders all over the place. Straight-in approaches seem ok.

This is an unfortunate issue I agree, but it's still one of the 5 planes I routinely fly as it has so much going for it.  I have looked and failed to find a SIMPLE app that would be a very small, round magnifier, with no perimeter line, just like a clear magnifying lens w/o a frame, the lens alone, would work.  It would be activated to a key press or mouse button etc magnify just the area its being hovered over, in place of the mouse pointer.  Not ideal but useful for this plane.  I've made peace with it by custom cameras that zoom in.   It's also got a nice HUD so you can see things like ground speed and altitude etc.

Can’t say the same, I’ve flown tons of different approaches with it.

that’s weird though cause with an RNAV there’s nothing in particular to do.

You nailed it.   Honestly, from a simming standpoint, it's pretty easy to consistently nail landings in the MAX and Airbus.   In the CRJ not so much.   If you aren't on your game, you'll fall out of the sky, lol.  I get a ton of satisfaction completing a full flight in the CRJ.   Still wish someone would do a brand new CRJ but the Aerosoft product is solid.    Maybe it's me but I really don't find the smaller fonts / displays to be a huge issue.   I keep the range dialed down and de-clutter the Nav display to only show basic info.

Maybe because the segments between turns are shorter than compared to the enroute flying and maybe because the plane is likely slowing down during the approach.

maybe I’ll give it a shot tonight.

thanks

Yes Sir. i knew. On a screen 49" with a resolution of 3840x1080, i have to zoom out quite a bit to get an overview of the cockpit without having to constantly pan the camera. That’s why there’s a problem with the small fonts. You can’t make them big enough for me to read them properly. That’s why these two aircraft are staying in my hangar.

That is a you problem, not the cockpit. If you try and squeeze the cockpit into the monitor width, of course the fonts will look small.  Get yourself a head tracker and panning becomes easy and sizes are accurate.
