Flysimware Lancair Legacy Dev Stream soon-ish

I've found that 0.1.3 addresses some of the general twitchiness on the pitch axis, but doesn't do a lot to help the highly ungraceful take off rotation. Still suffers crazy drag on the TO roll, won't rotate until after 100kts (should be 80kts) and still yelps into the air like a bear that's stood on a drawing pin.

I get that a plane that's effectively a low wing LSA with a IO-550 bolted onto the front isn't going to just 'lean back and fly', but it's still far from right. With 1 notch of flaps, the plane should be rotating at 80kts and flying at 90kts but it does not want to break from the ground at those speeds at present.

I agree that the flight dynamics since my fix do not represent the final flight dynamics we plan to release. It is really easy to break flight dynamics, and we had two parameters that caused major issues that I did not catch right away because I was allowing the real pilot to tweak the performance. Once I found those two bugs, all of his previous tuning settings were no longer valid. I spent a full 12 hours fixing the issues and creating a clean, generic base for tuning while still using real-world specs. Now the pilot and builder of the Starhawk has a solid foundation that is excellent for final tuning. He had an emergency come up, so he cannot start tuning again until this Friday. While I continue working through smaller bugs, he will be able to focus on the final performance tweaks.

Working with the real pilot and builder is amazing, and it is going to allow us to deliver a much better product. At the same time, it does come with some risk because it is hard for me to micro-manage everyone helping on the project every single day. That is why I always like to start with a small beta and light advertising first. I truly think that within about two weeks, the Legacy will be rock solid. I really appreciate the feedback.

Hi,

Those comments of mine related to v0.1.3.

Make sure you read my subsequent post about v.0.1.4 because the FDE on that latest version feels close to perfect to me 👍🏽

As per my PM, perhaps a little more lift from the first two flap settings (to facilitate an earlier rotation with flaps) and a slightly smoother transition from non-flying to flying control surfaces. But heck it feels great to fly now.

Thanks for the PM and keep up the great work.

This plane seems fantastic, but the one thing stopping me from buying it is the lack of dynamic tail registration. I gotta have my M-LINE tail number! At first I thought it might be coming later for the Lancair, but looking into it, it seems Flysimware's other two FS2024 planes also don't have any dynamic registration liveries?

There aren't any on FS.TO yet, but perhaps someone like Ryan or TimHH will be able to make a dynamic registration version of one of their repaints for the Legacy.

I'm not too concerned about dynamic registrations, but I would like to see a wider range of countries represented by the stock repaints (UK, Germany, Australia, etc) instead of just them all being US (and 1 Canadian).

0.1.5 is here

Cylinder head temperature, also known as CHT, has been updated for improved accuracy and tested across different altitudes, flight conditions, and operating situations.

GTN 750Xi and GTN 750 display and backlighting brightness have been improved. The emissive lighting behind the knobs, buttons, and main screens has been reduced, and the minimum and maximum brightness levels have been calibrated for better accuracy.

Flight dynamics have received a major improvement. Horizontal tail incidence has been accurately calibrated, helping the aircraft naturally trim to zero at the cruise speed of 235 knots with the current payload and CG setup.

Pitch behavior has been heavily refined, especially during takeoff. The aircraft should now lift off much more smoothly around 85 knots with a more natural low-profile climb-out, instead of jumping off the runway.

The overall flight dynamics foundation has been thoroughly reviewed and improved. We consider this the strongest foundation we have had so far, and the next focus is final fine-tuning with the real-world pilot.

The small Starhawk star decal below the fuel tank selector has been fixed and now only appears on the Starhawk model as intended.

I'm a little bit in love with this one now.

Same.

I'm not someone who ever flies a single plane repeatedly. Even some of my favourites, like the A2A Comanche and BS Bonanza, I'll enjoy a flight with them then move to something else.

But I'm on around 10 back to back flights with the Legacy now. That is with 0.1.4. I'm about to load up and fly 0.1.5 and can't wait to see how it's improved furthermore.

I snuck in a short session of pattern work on this yesterday with v0.1.4 and found it vastly improved, and now flyable.

My opinion on further adjustments seem to be already reflected in the change log for v0.1.5 😁

Can hardly wait to try the new update (and subsequent further refinements from ValinHawk)

@Flysimware : the Beta is progressing extremely well - THANK YOU for making such rapid and substantive progress 😁👍

I'd have to make a thin mesh to place a registration on... they're kinda all over the place though irl... and it wouldnt be fancy. And it wouldnt work in the cockpit that would probably have to be done by FSW.. I guess theoretically it could work but this mesh stuff is really beyond my skill level.

If you were to pick 1 or 2 of mine so far which would you like to have a DR on?
