Flysimware Lancair Legacy Dev Stream soon-ish

I'm on verge too to get FSW Legacy, even in beta state. I love the aircraft, have the Aerobask version in both XP11/XP12, but the lack/simplicity of systems/engine modelling isn't attractive to me anymore. In Aerobask version I can lean the mixture so ITT goes pretty high and gal/hr lowers to like 6-7, at 200kts. I'm quite sure that is not the case in RL, well at least not without consequences at pretty high ITT. I actually started flying mediocre addons in both sims less and less. When there is no penalty for bad engine and systems management, I lose interest. People on XP forums say "you get what you paid for", referencing to the price of Aerobask Legacy which is around 45$, and I'm quite sure FSW goes way more into details for the same price. The only difference in the platform, and the foundation for the flight modelling.

I agree that the flight dynamics since my fix do not represent the final flight dynamics we plan to release. It is really easy to break flight dynamics, and we had two parameters that caused major iss

    I have 4 kids lol.

Great to hear about the early updates!

I may wait for one more (0.13) then see how she's doing.

I personally think that for a release like this, there's a short game and a long game. The short game is somewhat painful. We can all see the beautiful aspects of this release and the stashes of potential. But at present, it's difficult to enjoy.

However, in terms of the long game, I feel 100% confident. FSW are a fantastic team and I've never been disappointed with any of their models - often after just a couple of updates. If this were Carenado, we'd all know that this release was "as good as it's probably going to ever get". But FSW are the complete opposite; they're clearly all over this and are working tirelessly to improve the issues as urgently as they can.

I'm normally a terribly impatient person but where this gorgeous Legacy is concerned, I'll wait because I know that they won't stop until it flies like a dream 😎

100 pct agree.

I'm definitely going to wait a few patches. I'll check it out again this weekend and see what's up then. Right now, it's just not fun to fly. Tempting, yes, but... ;)

I'm looking forward to when it runs as well as the Lear v2 - i'm confident they'll get it there. :)

Much better with 0.1.3.

I've found that 0.1.3 addresses some of the general twitchiness on the pitch axis, but doesn't do a lot to help the highly ungraceful take off rotation. Still suffers crazy drag on the TO roll, won't rotate until after 100kts (should be 80kts) and still yelps into the air like a bear that's stood on a drawing pin.

I get that a plane that's effectively a low wing LSA with a IO-550 bolted onto the front isn't going to just 'lean back and fly', but it's still far from right. With 1 notch of flaps, the plane should be rotating at 80kts and flying at 90kts but it does not want to break from the ground at those speeds at present.

I just flew a flight and rotated at 85 with a semi full load (not max gross) with a 10 knot headwind. It does tend to jump into the air a little though.

I loved the Realair Legacy back in the day. This version will probably be a mighty nice addon when complete as much as the A2A probably will be. Look forward to try it. Most likely later though. Dont want to be a part time bete tester without compensation and still pay full price for my service/patience. Dont like that approach and never will as common as it seems to get unfortunately.

What flaps setting are you using on TO Ryan?

Out of interest, are you just updating the current version (within the FSW Updater), or are you uninstalling the previous version first?

I've been being cautious and uninstalling the previous version first, but at over 4Gb, it's a slow(ish) download.

I've always spent a large proportion of my life downloading FSW planes 😄 Mostly because they update them so frequently (a good thing) but also because, in the past, it;s been necessary to d/l the full package each time.

I'm always cautious about an "on top" update and I don't fully trust the FSW Updater yet!

Do it all via the app - uninstalling and then installing from new every time.

Ah same as me.

Actually, I'm currently unable to download or install 0.1.4. After going through the full 4Gb download, I then get a runtime error pop up box saying the install has failed.

Never had any issues downloading from the app until this version, today.

EDIT: Sorted! 4th time lucky with the install.

Version 0.1.4 is awesome!

Having just flown a leg in the new version 0.1.4 I'd say that this plane is now sorted! The oil temp sensor is finally fixed (and the oil cooler door lever working correctly), so temps can be managed realistically, and you don't have the oil temp 'in the yellow' all the time any more.

Most importantly, the plane now feels very convincing and is a pleasure to fly. Power at initial climbout now feels very realistic, and you're not at 170kts before you've even got the gear up. In the non-turbo version, I had a nice 120kts climb (in IAS mode) showing around 1700fpm, which is spot on.

The plane still jumps off the runway somewhat suddenly, when it reaches flying speed, but I'd suspect that this plane doesn't just float off the runway IRL. There's so little weight in the airframe versus that heavy IO-550 up front. It's going to need lifting 😊 Approach and landing was divine. Beautifully responsive and easy to get a flattering landing.

It now feels like a FSW plane, and it feels like a solid release.

If you've been holding out, now might be the time to jump in. And things are only going to get better, when the analogue version is released. 😎

Whoa - that’s great news!

Looking forward to a couple re-fam flights this weekend. What a great little motorcycle with wings this thing is (can be)!

I see what you mean about the jumping off the runway a little. I wonder if its a weight thing. I use 10 flaps for takeoff.
