The new forum look - is there a compact view?

Featured Replies

This looks SO much better then the previous version. The new dark mode is especially appreciated. If I HAD to complain I do not like the stationary right pane on the forums, but that's not a huge deal for me.

I know people don't like change, particularly regimented folks who are into structured flight, but try to give it a chance!

OK, the snippets have been turned off and we're back to a compact forum view. It took me a while to find the setting in the new version of the forum software.

the new layout really sicks in my opinion. way to many text is shown. As you said, compact view like before would be better imho.

Anyone else getting video adverts start up when browsing AVSIM lately? PIA.

Flying along, browsing AVSIM then all of a sudden, some bloke starts yelling about vacuum cleaners lol.

Yes, and they are awful. LOUD volume and often I can not get them to stop playing, so my only choice is to leave the site altogether. Has happened a number of times over the past few days

Again trying to fix what wasn't broken, please go back to the previous format.

Not so much that, as the vulgar (but maybe inevitable) "monetising" of the site - a disturbing trend that seems to affect every aspect of the Internet these days. It's what happens when the bean counters take over policy making.

Worse still - if you go down that route, your audience will drop and your revenue with it ... so you have to increase the advertising to compensate. A vicious circle.

Isn't that an advertisement in your signature?

edit - one that can't be blocked with AdBlock+ too 😄

Absolutely not! ;) It's simply a link to my [free] resources site. No-one's encouraging you to spend any money. I think you're mistaking advertising for publicity ...

Advertising is advertising. The only difference here is that I can't block yours.

OK, I'll bite! "Advertising is the paid, strategic communication used to bring attention to products, services, or brands, aiming to influence consumer behavior and drive actions like sales or increased awareness."

I have to add, there's no advertising or click-bait on my site ;)

Nowhere on any of the sites I have inadvertently clicked on here directly ask me for money. Except yours where I am directly asked to 'buy you a coffee' 😁

Oh dear ... you seem to be intent on simply being "clever", so I'll drop out of this conversation so as not to derail the thread any further. FYI a donation is not a purchase: there is no product.

I thought you were going to say, 'well you don't have to click on it', but then your argument would have been completely shot down so, yes, maybe stop digging 😄And get an adblocker!

The new site is a massive improvement as far as I'm concerned, even better now that the compact view has been enabled. And I'll say again, finally fixed for the many mobile users who couldn't use it for most of the year so far. It's so nice to have it back, wherever I go.

Hopefully this doesn't get missed but the icon to go to First Unread post on a thread needs to be larger, it's far too small on mobile browser which results in going to the first post then having to scroll/skip pages to get to the first unread post, thanks.

P.S. put me in the camp of welcoming the upgrade, I found the old forum very dated especially with is lack of dark mode so that's a great feature.

Yes, they are very annoying. Adblocker or not, we should not be subjected to BS like that.
