May 24May 24 It was always going to be a bit of a gamble for me to make the jump from 2020 to 24, mainly because I was pretty happy with how it performed when flying my 738. But I made the jump anyhow. I have to say, I am mainly very impressed with numerous aspects of the new sim. Primarily I see far less morphing and shifting of mountainous areas, and the weather, from what I've seen so far, looks simply gorgeous, although I have read threads from those who say they prefer 2020. It does seem somewhat inconsistent with how things are rendered, sometimes delivering better visuals than others. However, there is one particular issue that I find very irritating, and that's the rather aggressive LOD system that Asobo is using in 24. As someone who doesn't really understand the technicalities of scenery design, I have however read a bit about this issue, but I'm curious to discover if anyone has any information, that I'm unaware of, suggesting Asobo is going to change it or in some way. May 24May 24 I found 2024's settings when it comes to frame rate cap and dynamic settings to be a huge improvement for medium hardware compare to 2020 where these features did not exist and you had to rely on an external frame limiter. It'll allow you to tweak all your LOD settings (TLOD and OLOD) based on your "style" of flying: low & slow (sightseeing) VFR or a simpler/faster IFR profile. You can set various thresholds based on altitude - and it can work with MSFS dynamic settings if you wish.

They introduced a new LOD system in 2024 and they did end up improving it several SU's ago. This helped for scenery dev as buildings/objects were disappearing way too early but that is better now. Still some other LOD issues such as the landing gear, terrain ,etc. I have to assume this all due to Xbox/PS console performance..similar to how WX was downgraded from the early 2020 days... May 24May 24 I use both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024 (both in VR and so if there is a strain on the system anywhere then I'm likely to find it - whether I want to or not 😀 )I would not get over concerned, @Rocky_53 . Your specs are pretty good. I've only recently upgraded my CPU from a 7800x3D and so for most of my flying your specs are higher than mine were - and being a fellow Brit, I share the burden of UK internet speeds. And, although how I get there is different to how I get there in MSFS2020, my results in MSFS2024 visually surpass MSFS2020 (which is no slouch to start off with). I think the main thing is to relieve your hardware of things that don't matter to be able to tweak up stuff that does - and, let's face it, there are a lot of tweaks that can be done. What matters and doesn't matter for you depends on what kind of flying you do but on my graphics settings, I have quite a few graphics settings that are OFF or LOW (for example, I don't do bush flying and so 'Fauna' is OFF...but I see clouds everywhere and so those are on Ultra). There's lots of tweaking available in MSFS2024 and, while it takes time as it is a little bit trial-and-error, I think I would be surprised if you can't find enough stuff to moderate so that you can tweak the OLOD and TLOD upwards to somewhere you are happy with. You and I have nearly identical hardware and while one can see some 'pop-ins' overall I don't see anything more than that and my brain simply ignores these in large part, hence the 'irritation' piece is largely eliminated. One reality I find remarkable in both 2020 and 2024: changing TLOD makes so little difference between say 100 and 400 it's flat out not worth the performance load. In a double-blinded test I'm certain most would not know whether they were set at 100 or 400. It's just too subtle.
