There’s no such thing as a “British accent”. 😉

There are English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish (Northern Ireland) accents. A Scot would take great exception to having his accent described as British. Same for the other countries that make up the UK.

Don’t want to jump on you. 😉 Just needed some clarification.

There are many local accents, which differ greatly (an example close to home being those from Manchester and Liverpool!). A scouser might take great exception to having their accent described as English, implying some affinity with their geographically close neighbours. Same for the other regions that make up England.

Indeed there are Kev but for the purposes of my post I didn’t want to muddy the waters by mentioning local accents. Pretty sure most AT Controllers wouldn’t have strong accents as they could be difficult for overseas crews to understand.

Ignore my PM. Your post did eventually appear. 😉

I learned something new today. I knew there were different variants based on locations but I think I always referred to it as 'British'. In that case, I was hearing what I would say were far too many 'English' accents (or was it Scottish??) in the NYC/Mid-Atlantic area. It could happen I guess....😄

You would be amazed if I took you 30 miles west from my home to Liverpool and you heard the local accent. It’s a very localised and pronounced accent.

Eeeck! 🤣 I can see you’re located in the NE of the USA but surely you can differentiate between Scottish and English. Maybe this will help.

Agreed. The past week or so I've had some of the absolute worst vectoring and approach controlling since I've been using the software, and I've been using it for well over a year now. Hopefully they get it ironed out soon.

I agree as well. Now it will ALWAYS vector me to what is sees as the FAF, even if there are transitions. Yes that can happen in real life, but most of the vectoring results in being too high or having to hit very high descent rates. I also hate that when it starts descent it will inevitably tell me to descend to xx,000 feet, then less than a minute late, sometimes immediately, give me a different altitude. I have also had it make me takeoff into its own opposing AI and refuse to give me landing to the runway ATIS said was in use and being used by AI.

That's because doing ATC really well is word not allowed hard. 😭

I do understand that. But in that case, the marketing and customer comms need to be managed accordingly.

There's no sense in promising the Earth if you just can't deliver it.

Although I've moved on, my son still uses SI and the biggest frustration we both see (or hear, I should say) is the absolute domination of Indian accents. We flew from Biggin Hill to Newcastle yesterday and out of a total of around 7 engagement points with ATC, 6 had the thick Indian (Gururati I believe) accent. There wasn't a Brit to be heard!

I'm sure this 'loss of regionalisation' is a bug, and I have also heard lots of RP (received pronunciation = "posh English") British accents when flying in the US. We also sometimes hear nothing but North American ATC in the UK and Europe.

But those Indians! 😄

Also, please continue to discuss SI here, as they have a new policy: when your premium subscription expires you are banned from all channels of their Discord except the “Announcements” that come directly from them. I lost my access when I decided to take a few months off (after several frustrating flights) so I opened a ticket.

Their reply: Many thanks for the ticket, we've recently taken the decision to limit the Premium access, etc, to users who have active premium subscriptions. As a paid tier, it felt unfair to us that users with subscriptions that were no longer active should have full access to things that form the whole basis of the paid subscription tiers.

Not being able to see customer complaints AND their resolution really limits the likelihood I will ever be back. Many times when taking a break I would see people talking about how a feature had improved and re-subscribe.

sure, but my point is, so is vatsim in that context. Vatsim has been around for years, SI only 2. Trust me when i say, i'm not "yes-manning" this project, but they have made some good progress as of late....like in the last 30 days. I think vectoring is getting really good. I've had it only twice that i was kept astronomically high on approach and the go-around was a goat-rope. Other than that, it's been pretty solid. They need to prioritize phraseology and traffic spacing...along with intersecting runways.
