Where I live (California) the temp will go over 100 F on average of 15 days a year. In the 90's about 60 days a years. It is noon here and the temp is 98. Will go up to about 104 in afternoon. It's 98 outside and 75 inside. Thank you HVAC magic box for changing the weather. Even the wealthy Pharaoh's of ancient Egypt never had life so good. Only Fans. That's the way to go for you guys in the UK and northern Europe, I think. You only need to cool down a room or small house/flat maybe 5-6C to be more comfortable for a week or two a year when it gets really hot. Plus they use a lot less electricity than a large, full house unit.

We have little window air conditioners in the U.S for the same purpose. We used to only have these type of ACs before the 1980s, but people still use them to cool down a room as needed.

We know some Italians who have them. Lately they're not quite enough, as Italy is going through yet another heat wave with temps 35C+, but in the past, when it rarely got so hot for so long, and almost never hotter than 30C, they were adequate. Yes, I said that Italy was overall cooler 25+ years ago, but I attribute that to a natural cycle as opposed to other, let's say more speculative, explanations.😁

Our monthly electrical bill is always the same because they average it out. It is $230 a month. About $8 a day. A meal of a hamburger with fries and a soft drink at a drive through is about $11. We run the air conditioner about 300 days a year out of 365. Even for minor heat.

Electrical power comes from generators at the dam as the water runs through it. Mother nature thus supplies the energy free (rainfall in the nearby mountains). The electrical fees are just for maintaining the wires, repair truck crews, and such. There is no fuel being consumed except for water evaporating as the rivers run down to the sea.

Up to 39 degrees celsius in the last wave. Now 35 in, I guess, the 4th heat wave in Switzerland. Happy Global Warming everyone and your children...

70 to 75 quid is the average in the UK per month, for electricity.

Lately, hordes of Californians are escaping and moving to other States. My mother's new neighbors just moved here from Cali. The bad thing for the "natives" is that these pesky Californians sell their exhorbitantly overpriced houses for huge sums compared to other States, then they show up in a low cost State and bid everything up in price, so now houses here have gotten very expensive.

I just hope they don't bring other, let's say less tangible things, with them.
