What's with the performance in SoCal?

Featured Replies

Anyone else have a very noticeable difference in performance in SoCal (LAX / SAN) than in other places?

For some reason in the SoCal area specifically its just impossible for me to get good low level performance.   My 9800x3d gets absolutely hammered (50+ ms frametimes) just after rotation.  This is even with using AutoFPS to limit TLOD to 50 on the ground.  Then once I hit about 2500 ft agl frametimes almost instantly drop back into the teens and things become perfectly smooth.  It's really strange and only an issue in THIS specific area and it is 100% not a VRAM issue. I swear it's gotten so much worse over the past few months, and never used to be like this.

All the notoriously demanding areas (NYC, Tokyo, London, etc...) none of them have this kind of behavior.

Running in VR on a bsb2e, on a 9800x3d with a 5080 and 64gb ram.

It's because they use the new TIN. It's very resource heavy. Pretty much anywhere that had a CU uses the new stuff and is tougher on performance.

You could try using DLSS quality but you already have a decent rig.

Sometimes I find using autofps makes it worse. Try running default with TLOD 200 or so

What's the 'new TIN'?

I uninstalled the recent California update with the new TIN for this reason, performance was just atrocious.

I had no idea they were using new TIN, I guess that explains it. From what I remember SoCal already looked really good before it. It's one of my favorite places in the world to fly, so the recent performance has been rather disappointing. I guess I'll just uninstall the new update too then.

Already on DLSS performance 🙃. Interesting tip on AutoFPS though...I'll give that a shot later for sure.

I guess I must not have the California update because right now flying out of KSAN>KRNO and performance was typical for any similar environs. Native rate during taxi and shortly after TO was about 53FPS-native, and that was in the IFly MAX 8, TLOD 150 on the ground, and all else at Ultra. I lock it to 60FPS-fg. And CPU load was modest. I'll check California update status after landing...

I have the update installed. I get the usual performance around so cal as I always have. Haven't noticed any drop in performance in Vision Jet Leaving KLGB to KPSP and return.

Yeah, same here. I'm not noticing any performance hit here. ..

Also flying Cali with the update and performance is about what it has always been. My biggest gripe remains the colors, not the performance.

Do you have Bijan's Seasons Enhanced addon? I know some folks have seen degraded performance after SU updates with that addon installed... I know he is updating it for SU6 because there were some conflicts in the SoCal area but not sure if it was released yet.

So I just tried disabling the addon, and still the same poor performance. Really not sure. I'm almost certain I don't have any addons that could be causing it either. Will need to dig deeper. Very strange it's only really happening in this specific area.

I have Bijan's addon installed and still don't see any difference in performance. I'm doing the repeat flight in the Duke @ 5000 ft. All looks great and performs well.
