  1. Removing the Windows Update will allow the CD to work.
  2. Hi, This thread in my forum discusses multiple installs of Golden Wings, Silver Wings, and Classic FS (classic aircraft, AI, and scenery not using the "Wings" packages). You can use any or all of those. http://calclassic.proboards.com/thread/181/multiple-installations-fs2004 Another discussion of the topic: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?21431-Multiple-Installs-of-FS2004
  3. First, you need to check if the model has "holes" for windows, or are the windows painted on. If "holes", then the lighting may be in the model, unless it is the interior textures that are lighting up (as opposed to a diffuse glow). If the interior textures, see below. If painted on, then your United night textures need to have a black alpha channel where the cabin windows are located in the day texture. If the window pattern is identical between the DAL and UAL schemes, you could try copying the DAL night textures into the UAL folder (backup first).
  4. I think you listed everything I've done. Enjoy your flights.
  5. Since there is only one valid zoom value for a given monitor (assuming you cover the entire screen with FS) since the zoom value should be determined by the proportions of the monitor, the change to the zoom value as saved in the default Flight is all you need.
  6. Hi, The line in the panel.cfg file only affects the 2D panel, not the VC. The correct answer was to change the zoom value and then save a flight. You then either have to make that your Default Flight, or load that flight each time before you start. Hope this helps,
  7. If you mean the spinning aircraft in the Select Aircraft window is black, this is a common problem with recent video cards and drivers. Do a web search for: black window select aircraft fs2004 and you should see some possible solutions.
  8. Thanks John for making those available, and for the tip you can import more than one at a time.
  9. Mine is 214 MB. If you are short of space, download AFCAD 2.21 instead. It's only 3.2 MB.
  10. Sure, with a lot of work. This is only for your own personal use; otherwise you will need to get permission from all authors involved. 1. Convert all library objects to P3D format. This can be done with ModelConverterX. You load a library BGL and save it (Export Scenery menu) in P3D format. You need to make sure that MCX retains the same GUID values. Any object with transparency will need to have that transparent material fixed (the Use Default Transparent drop down choice). 2. Load the AFCAD file into ADE (P3D mode). Make any desired changes, and save it in P3D format. 3. Re-create any terrain features while in ADE (flattens, excludes, airport polygons, roads, rivers, etc.). 4. You may also need to move the airport (using ADE) to avoid changes between FS9 and P3D. Hope this helps,
  11. Nice trick. I wonder if a substitute scenery.cfg file with just the default scenery would make it even faster?
  12. Hi, For FS9 the livery is what is used to specify the AI aircraft in the flight plan files (actually, the title= line in the aircraft.cfg file). This title must be unique to your FS installation, and the texture= line must point to the livery's texture folder. There must also be a valid AIR file in the folder, with the sim= line pointing to that. Finally, there must be a valid model folder (with an MDL file, a model.cfg file pointing to that MDL file, and a model= line in the aircraft.cfg file pointing to that folder). If that has been checked and double checked, then perhaps you are having permission issues allowing AIFP to access this information? If AIFP or FS are located in a Program Files folder your OS may block access, depending on your permission settings.
  13. It could be something in your default flight. Load the default Cessna at SeaTac and then switch to the 747.
  14. And follow the Build a P-38 tutorial in the main GMAX tutorials.
  15. If this aircraft is a turboprop, try moving your prop pitch lever to full coarse; this simulates the "condition lever" and sometimes helps. If a piston you may need to reduce the idle setting in the aircraft.cfg file, I assume (min_design_mp=?). For a jet, I assume it's something in the AIR file?
  16. Note that the CalClassic Indochina 1962 scenery package contains some airports (like Saigon and Hanoi) that might be useful as well (at least as starting points).
  17. Hi, You can change the approach of AI aircraft *slightly*, if that runway has an ILS approach. But keep in mind this will also change the GPS display for flyable aircraft. If you use the Approach Mode of ADE and load the ILS approach, AI aircraft will fly to the IAP located on the main leg of the ILS approach. So if you move that waypoint (or create another one and use that instead) over the sea, the aircraft will fly there. Then they will fly a straight line (using the heading listed there) until they reach the extended centerline of the runway, turn to the runway heading, and land.
  18. Are your changing the standby frequency and then clicking the swap button?
  19. or just rename it with a .bak at the end to inactivate it.
  20. Hi, BTW, MDL Tweaker II over at FSDeveloper can usually fix this problem. 1. Start MDL Tweaker 2. Load MDL file. 3. Click on the black button with the white T (Display Texture List) 4. Click on the texture that is blurred. The Texture Size will often be 1 or close to it. 5. Click Check Texture Sizes button. The Texture Size will probably change. 6. Click Update Texture. 7. Check the LM night texture too - if it hasn't changed, type in the same Texture Size number as the new one for the day texture. 7. Click Update Texture. 8. Close the Textures box with the red X. 9. File/Save. It will suggest a file name with _tweaked added. I change this to the original file name and overwrite the original MDL file (I can always create a new one if I need it). Check out the new MDL file in FS. Hope this helps,
  21. Hi, The announced approach height is controlled by the Approach. AFAIK, the only way to alter this is to use ADE (Airport Design Editor). Quit FSX first before editing this. 1. Load the airport into ADEX (if a default airport File/Open Stock Airport, if addon File/Open Airport from BGL). 2. Click the Approach Mode button in the upper right and choose Lists/Approaches. 3. If nothing appears, close this and click the Airport Mode button in the upper right. Click Tools/Load Stock Data. Check Approaches, and Navaids and Waypoints, OK. When done, go back to Approach Mode, and use Lists/Approaches. 4. Your Rwy 4L ILS approach should be listed; click it and then the Edit button. 5. Look near the bottom of the right side. You will see Appr Alt Feet and 2600. 6. Change this to 2400. 7. Save the AD4 file somewhere safe (File/Save Airport, you will open this file to make further edits, do NOT edit the stock or addon airport BGL file again!). 8. Use File/Compile Airport to create the new airport BGL file. If you started with a default airport, this BGL file can go into your Addon Scenery/scenery folder. Make sure you don't have any other KDTW airport files in this folder. If an addon airport, save it in the airport scenery's scenery folder. Give it a new name, do NOT overwrite the original file. Then move the original file out of this "scenery" folder (I move it to the parent folder, the one with the airport's name). That way it stays safe as a backup. 9. Restart FS. Try it out, and hopefully ATC will announce 2400 ft this time. Hope this helps,
  22. Glad to help. Yes I agree, you need to be relatively close to the runway. You can make the WAV files louder but this is only a limited solution, and has its own problems.
  23. Hi, The instructions to add it to other planes are located in the Read Me NOW.txt file in the Sound package. They are: MANUAL EDITING FOR OTHER PLANES If you have other planes you want to give these sound effects, you will need to edit the plane's aircraft.cfg "touchdown=" line in the EFFECTS section as follows: Tire chirp only (i.e. DC-4): touchdown=fx_tchdwn_tires Short piston reverse (i.e. CV-340): touchdown=fx_tchdwn_piston_short Medium piston reverse (i.e. DC-6B): touchdown=fx_tchdwn_piston_med Long piston reverse (i.e. L1649A): touchdown=fx_tchdwn_piston_long Short Allison turboprop reverse (i.e. CV-580): touchdown=fx_tchdwn_Allison_short Long Allison turboprop reverse (i.e. L-188): touchdown=fx_tchdwn_Allison_long Jet reverse (i.e. B707): touchdown=fx_tchdwn_jet Package is at: http://www.calclassic.com/files/AI_Sound_Effects.zip The rest of my Classic AI Traffic package is at: http://www.calclassic.com/AIAircraft.htm Hope this helps, PS. If you need different reverse sounds (assuming you have some reasonable high throttle WAV files on hand), you can substitute your reverse sound (s) for mine by renaming it to the same name I use (and rename the effect if you wish). But there are a limited number of WAV file names available (these are hard coded in FS), and thus you cannot create your own.
  24. Note that parking codes are case sensitive. They are normally all upper case, by convention.
