  1. My father was a gunner on an A-26 during WWII! I wish them success!!
  2. True...but then PMDG is not modeling home built aircraft.
  3. I always view the external model as an extra value feature, to me the cockpit simulation is the main priority. Real pilots fly inside the cockpit not outside of it. So for me a detailed high res exterior is nice to have, but it's not absolutely necessary, especially if it affects performance.
  4. GSX is a much more complete product and more immersive then AES. It actually loads baggage and cargo loaders, deices based on actual weather conditions, etc.AES just puts the loaders in place. The only real advantage to AES is support for airports using non standard Jetways, and then only those it supports and you purchased credits for. Also gone are the days of erratic pushbacks in GSX . They are much more stable and gives you the ability to define custom push back procedures, and includes a set for there own airports. One nice feature it now does, is remember what ground services you used at point of origin. For example You could be a BA 777 departing EGLL using BA Ground services, flying to KDFW using AA Ground Services, When you unload the cargo containers, Ground service equipment will be AA, but the containers themselves will be the same BA containers loaded on at EGLL. I do agree with you Couatl sometimes do get annoying. It does crash every once in a while. When it does it's always when first starting up. If the initial load is ok your good for the whole session. I have a theory why it happens. When it does it always crashes twice. I think there's some cases where it tries to load itself twice, which it doesn't like. I suggested this to FSDT support, and they pretty much shot me down, but the problem was never solved and continues to happen every once in a while.
  5. That's because it does, it assigns actual SIDs/STAR based on it's updated Navigraph Database and it expects you to fly it. It assigns it's ascents and descents instructions based on those procedure. If you deviate either vertically or laterally it will redirect you back on course, where RC4 or PFE (or PF3) fudges it by allowing you to define an entry point, (Usually the transition waypoint) where ATC will allow you to fly your own way, you fly S turns or circles all the way in it won't care. (I believe RC4 you have to ask for it while on approach. where PFE(3) they are defined preflight.
  6. It does for approaches, There's options to assign an alternate approach and runway for landing. You can't however change runways/procedures for takeoff, even though I believe the manual says you should, The menu is blank.
  7. I wouldn't quite go that far! For instance the FlyJsim 737-200, 727-200 I would consider study sim plane, IXEG is close if they incorporate the missing systems they acknowledge, I most definitely think they would qualify.
  8. Frooglesim has just posted a new video on the DC-6, He calls it, "Your First Impressions"
  9. I just flew a flight from CYYZ to YHHH on the PMDG T7 and landed with 500MB+ VAS available at the gate. Bare in mind I'm running a 3Ghz C2D with Windows 32bit Vista, so that limits FSX to 3GB VAS not 4GB VAS as would be the case with Win 64bit. That gives me an effective VAS usage during the flight of only 2.5GB. That's with scenery at extremely dense , Autogen at very dense and WOAI. Granted these are with freeware airport scenery, but I do use UTUSA, UTCanada and FTX Global.
  10. You forget about FSXSE and P3D 3.x, both now cleans up unused VAS during the session.
  11. Every process (Application) running is allocated it's own separate address space 4GB for a 32bit app. Much greater then GB's for 64bit apps (We're talking pebibytes - Don't ask, If you are interested look up 64 bit computing on Google), needless to say it's doubtful your system will ever come close to that. So you can run say Firefox listening to Pandora Music while flying in FSX. Each process with it's own protected 4GB address space. In fact FSX addons like ASN of COUATL use this same ability. They interface with FSX using SimConnect , without needing to take up FSX's own address space, because they have there own allocated VAS. Addons though that use .dll files do run inside of FSX and do use FSX's address space. This is why I setup my dll.xml file to load my non essential addons (Mostly aircraft) to ManualLoad=True. Then on FSX start it will ask if I want to load that addon, I say no to all but the ones I am using for that session. The rest never gets loaded, so that frees up some more VAS. No sense loading up the system with dll's you're not using.
  12. One of the problems I see in his review, is the depth of field. He has it set as if you were viewing the cockpit on a regular monitor. The idea, is to set it to what would be a more realistic position closer in and view the instruments by looking down. The limitation virtual glasses though, is you actually have have to look down, in the real world you may just have to adjust your view with your eyeballs. Now if Oculus could track eyeball movement, that would really be something.
  13. VAS = Virtual Address Space (Address space the O/S allocates to each Application running on the system. This is what allows you to run multiple applications on a system at the same time) 32bit applications like FSX are limited on a 64bit O/S to 4GB VAS On a 32bit O/S like XP Vista that limit is 2GB by default but can be up to 3GB if system is set to boot up with the /3GB flag and the App is set to Large Address aware. Both FSX SP2 and FSX-SE are. The biggest improvement DTG made to FSXE was the way FSX managed it's VAS. This greatly reduces the chance of an Out of memory error (OOM - It actually means Out of VAS, not physical memory) that occurred much more often with FSXMS because FSX didn't clean itself up as well during the session. (What programmers call Housekeeping). Lockheed Martin implemented similar improvements in Prepar3D 3.x.
  14. The other issue is, even if you uninstall FSX-MS, when you install FSX-SE it will do a side by side installation. There is a way around it but it involves clearing out all traces of your FSX-MS installation in the registry, not advised unless you really know what you are doing. One mistake in there, and you can really do damage to your system, including the ability to boot it up. (Emphasis intended) For the most part the Steam version is more stable, has better VAS management. Most addons now work, or has a version that does available for it. One notable exception is the freeware FSRecorder. Some say they have gotten an older version to work (Ver 1.33) but it doesn't work for me.
  15. One of the few flying WWII P-47D Thunderbolt (Jacky's Revenge) crashed into the Hudson 2 miles South of the George Washington Bridge. (Just North of where Sully went down) There are conflicting reports on the fate of the pilot. NJ State Police say pilot was rescued with minor injuries. MSNBC now though is saying the NYPD says that report was incorrect, and the pilot is still missing. The aircraft was one of a flight of 3 as part of the NY Fleet week events. The other 2 aircraft returned safely to Farmingdale Republic Airport. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/vintage-plane-crashes-into-hudson-river-during-fleet-week/
  16. Looks like you maybe running a real old version of RAAS The current version is 2.4.0.7
  17. Jetway control has never been integrated in GSX, so while SODE jetways also won't be integrated, I don't see how they would be completely incompatible?

    FSX ATC

If you file an IFR flightplan ATC will give you your initial clearance and expected landing runway (With the option to request another) about 70nm out.
  19. By any chance was this followed by a Couatl crash on the previous session?. I get those every once in a while. The next time you run you'll have no sound. To fix this in the GSX sound settings, there's a checkbox on the bottom of the dialog I think it says something like detect on restart or something like that. It should be available, click it and press OK. When GSX reloads, go back into the sound settings, It will probably still show no device, but your available audio devices should now be listed on the drop down menu. Select the one you are using and press Ok again. You should now have your sound back when GSX restarts.
  20. Just for clarity on something Froogle said on the video, for those that don't know, DTG has already stated that there are no DLC planned for Flight School at this time, it's stand alone only. DFS (Flight Simulator), though will be a DLC based sim.
  21. No it would be consistent with the start of systems and sensors failing in the avionics bay (cascading failure)
  22. Well just to give an idea of what to expect Jordan King streamed it today on Twitch, you can see them here, My guess there will be a YT video coming too from him, like he did with DTG Flight School. https://www.twitch.tv/jordankinggaming/profile
  23. Also check your PMDG Options in the FMC, there is an option to turn on/off RAAS, it may be off. I think that it's livery specific as well. Tom Cain
  24. I don't know at this point how people can continue to say this, with basic systems that any other complex system aircraft addons has are missing, like Holds, TCAS, even final destination Estimated Fuel on Board calculations in the FMC. I'm sure they'll get there, in a future release, but they are not there yet.
