  1. The longest commercial flight I can see currently is EKCH to KBOS note Statute miles (SM) are not the same as Nautical miles. For this planned flight the distance would convert to about 3400+NM. There is also a couple of private 737-700's to the same destinations, so this may actually be a charter. Tom Cain http://flightaware.com/live/flight/SAS927/history/20160805/1100Z/EKCH/KBOS
  2. You have to at least program the PERF page (Weight CG)so the computers know the planes configuration, then you can control the Autopilot via MCE, Heading for lateral control, V-Speed or FLCH for Vertical. and Speed mode with the A/T. Tom Cain
  3. Yes MCE works very well with PMDG models. You won't be disappointed.
  4. Don't forget the much improved VAS management changes. Which didn't come to P3D until V3.x.
  5. I agree, my theory was that it was a terrorist act. I think the original goal was to capture the plane for a future 9/11 style attack. The reason I think this is this crew is known to at least on one occasion let people into the cockpit in flight, that may have happened again. There was a point early on where radar showed the plane making erratic altitude changes, this could have been the point of a struggle to take control of the aircraft. I think then the hijackers would have cut passenger oxygen supply preventing any further resistance, I believe they then flew the plane west probably towards Yemen, which would be right in line with the dismissed sightings over the Maldives, my guess would be to Socotra Airport, which looking on Google Earth appears to be a deserted field with a runway large enough to land a 777 and there doesn't appear to be anything around it for miles. Looks like an easy place they can fly the plane into without being seen, at least as a stopping off point to refuel. I think they just ran out of fuel before they got there, and cashed into the Western Indian Ocean, with some debris eventually coming ashore on the Eastern Coast of Africa. This area is also in range of of the satellite that picked up the pings, and the time it would take to fly to that area, matches the pings almost exactly.
  6. Pilot suicide doesn't surprise me either, as what you say, there has been other incidents in the past. What I don't buy is that a professional airline pilot would have to practice it in FSX before doing it.Especially just to crash in the Ocean. Another possibility what they may have found, is this was just a normal simulated flight to maybe Perth. We all know FSX coordinate system is not the same as what's generally used in the real world, and if you try to plot it that way your going to be way off. Maybe he was just doing a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Perth Australia. My guess since he would have been using the PMDG T7 for this, they must have been involved in the investigation of this and may know more about this, if it actually happened as reported.
  7. Well you know after spending millions for 2 years searching on one area and finding nothing they had to find a scapegoat. I never thought the plane went down in that area, rather more in the Western Indian Ocean towards Yemen. That theory to me was strengthened by the visible sighting from multiple sources of a low flying plane resembling a 777 flying over the coast of the Maldive's, that was completely dismissed. That thought was solidified in my view when the only debris found was also in the Western part of the Ocean. This was a post of my theory back in June 2014. http://www.avsim.com/topic/443125-mh370-satellite-data-released/page-5#entry3002190 The idea of a professional Commercial pilot having to practice a suicide mission if that was his intent, is ludicrous on it's face. He would just do it. It's not that complicated to fly the plane into the Ocean that it would need to be practiced.
  8. Not only that, it's not entirely accurate. True DTG is limited to what can be done in FSXSE, They are however licensed the same way LM is for P3D, to use FSX code to develop their own Sim Platforms, which they already done with the 64bit Flight School, and the upcoming more feature rich DTG Flight Simulator, which will also be 64bit. So Lockheed is not the only developer that is responsible for the legacy of the platform. It has split in 2 different paths. Which ultimately comes out the best path for this community remains to be seen. P3D right now has a big head start, but it's still a 32bit platform, and with DFS coming right out of the gate in 64bit, can catch up pretty guick, depending on what features DTG includes in DFS.
  9. That was a problem with earlier versions, I haven't had an issue like that since after the 1.9 update. All pushbacks are true with no weird turns as in earlier versions of the program. If you are still having an issue with that, I would try an uninstall and reinstall of GSX (Not just the addonmanager). That corrected some other issues I had. The automatic updates, don't always seem to put the program in the same state that a reinstall does.
  10. Generally you are better off with the stand alone version, it is compatible (Although I can't get it to work on my system, but I have a rather old setup still on Win Vista 32 bit. So I'm sure that is my main issue) You can try the 7 day trial first, to ensure it will work for you, before purchase. Updates will generally be available for the stand alone version first, as well as Betas, which I don't even think HiFi makes available through Steam. So you'll have to wait for the full release of an update, which Steam will probably be the last to get.
  11. Add the following lines to the Display section of the FSX.CFG file then adjust to your liking. lower values dim the lights, higher ones make them brighter. RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.9 ; Runway lights RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.9 ;VASI/PAPI lights RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.1 ;Approach Lights RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.5 ; Strobes
  12. A bit simplistic, yes each app is limited to 4GB virtual address space (VAS) (upto 3GB for APP, 1GB system in a 32bit OS) the system does use all the memory installed on the system for memory management (paging). same as is done with the HD page file for virtual memory. Remember address space is different then actual physical memory space. People tend to treat them the same, they are not.
  13. "I use a program called voice attack to bind simulator commands to voice commands because I have limited use of my hands. Therefore, once the aircraft is off the ground it is 100% voice control." The OP has limited use of hands, while the UT2 power pack requires a number of steps to complete, for each airline edited/added. something the OP appears to want to avoid.
  14. That won't be easy in this case, because of the need to use voice commands. I'm afraid there is no good solution for this circumstance.
  15. I've seen reports of poor performance in P3D with systems with hyperthreading on, Try turning it off if it's on in your system.
  16. No the story says the University of Glascow and Massachusetts chip design was a FPGA not this one from Univ of California.
  17. You don't say what version of FSX you have, if it's FSX-SE though the MD-11 is not supported, and will not install to it. Only the NGX and 777's are supported in FSX-SE. Tom Cain
  18. As for #2 yes EZDOK works fine in FSXSE. The only addon I find that don't work that I miss and it's freeware is FSRecorder. Some say they got an old version working, but so far, it don't work for me.
  19. You don't need a few weeks, just go to the learning center in FSX and there are a flight lessen system, that is as good or better then what DTGFS has now.
  20. No it is originally an Australia company, They do have a US subsidiary called Uniloc USA which was setup in 2003, but the parent company is Uniloc Corporation in Australia.
  21. Smooth yes!, Almost off the runway, also yes
  22. GSX does have the ability to have a follow me car direct you to runways, so your follow me program is now redundant. After pushback is completed, Go into GSX menu and you'll see options to direct you to start of runways, gates and parking, select the runway you are going to, it will ask if you want a follow me car, say yes, and wait for it to arrive. It will take you to the runway the same way it takes you to a gate. Here's how it works, Search for time stamp 25:10 in this video.
  23. Although the title of this thread isn't really related to the actual post, since you brought it up, I would highly recommend you buying direct from PMDG vs a local store or other publisher. Any updates will always be available first to the developers customers. There is also a risk (Although I would say slight in the case of PMDG) that if a developer broke off relations with a 4th party publisher, support for that publisher may end, with the publishers customers left out of any future updates as a result. This as already happened to at least one prominent Developer and publisher (I won't name any names) Many like buying from publishers to get a box version. The solution to that is take the downloaded installer and copy to a DVD, copy your activation code to a piece of paper, place both in a DVD case for safe keeping, Wallah you have the equivalent of a box copy, and still have the benefits of being the developers customer Tom Cain
  24. All I can say is what I heard, and I listened to about 45 minutes straight of it, and I heard all the takeoff, and landing clearances, but not once a hand off to departure, or a pilots acknowledgement of one.
  25. I was listening to EHAM tower recordings today on liveatc, and the only instructions I heard was takeoff and landing clearances, no hand offs to departure, so I can only assume the pilots initiates contact to departure after takeoff This is essentially how PROATC/X is modeled.
