  1. Before this thread gets locked, for an all round experience I'd say a resounding yes.
  2. We have become a truly forgiving lot. The sim world is littered with the shrieks and cries of simmers over the years complaining that XXX company released XXX software in an alpha or beta state, they should be hung, drawn and quartered for it etc. Simmers berating other simmers for being "paid beta testers" for said software, how bad that was, wishing people wouldn't do it..... For the people that are having issues, it is no wonder they are complaining - pay anything up to 180 of your local currency to be a beta tester is a lot more reason to be upset than some $30 add-on. For the record I have MSFS - don't use it for now and won't buy add-ons to it until they sort out the issues that it appears many have. Happy to have it lay dormant until then.
  3. The future depends on Asobo's willingness to tackle and solve the technical issues that advanced developers require. It would seem that the scenery is the easy part, and that is why new stuff is emerging. If they don't provide the technical support required by the PMDG's of the world, it will remain a visual simulator. Only time will tell.
  4. Why are people so sensitive and aggressive to anything remotely critical of MSFS? That type of response isn't called for.
  5. I don’t believe I said that. What I referred to as “shocking” are the sarcastic and demeaning comments directed at the OP in response to the OP’s comment because they dared to go against the group think. Nothing to do with whether a comment is for or against the sim. In fact, your comment regarding failing to “practice what you preach” is offensive. Unfortunately I find it ironic - a comment made regarding the right to make a comment is jumped on by that very same crowd. Thanks to the few people who agreed with the point I was trying to make, but many clearly missed.
  6. I think that the right to have an opinion should be respected. It seems any remotely negative opinion, regardless of how respectfully it is expressed regarding MSFS, is immediately squashed by the baying crowd. The level of intolerance is quite shocking.
  7. Also as a CFI as well, I think anything is fair game if the student can gain some benefit from it. When teaching IFR, before going near a sim or the aircraft, I pull out the iPad app "Navaid Trainer" and spent an hour or so with them for NDB/VOR orientation and tracking. Not approved as a training device, but one of the best intros to instrument training. Saves them money and reduces wasted time in sim or aircraft.
  8. I have to say that MSFS has left me somewhat underwhelmed. Yes, the terrain is a massive improvement but still has its problems, but the rest to me at the moment is underwhelming - I definitely see the potential, but where MSFS heads rests on whether the developers take it there to satisfy the "harder" players, or they go down the path of appeasing the gamers or arcade crowd. I can fly around Sydney, Australia for example, with no Harbour Bridge - making that area of Sydney look like it was before 1932 when it was built. This would be the first iteration that has covered that part of the world and this feature, being just one example, does not exist. While there are major deficiencies it seems with heavy aircraft in particular and autopilots, I hope the developers will atleast give 3PD's the resources they need to make them right. I think a lot of people have been so taken up in the pre-launch hype and are willing it to succeed so much that they overlook the fact that we are really still beta testing. That is something add-on developers have been smashed for over the years.
  9. Oops, I only gave half of my experience - Win 10 + P3D didn't work for me. Didn't have Win 10 when I ran FSX.
  10. I don't think those gauges work in Win 10 either
  11. Not sure about the magenta line but more a severe lack of hands-on instrument flying skills.
  12. They invested more up to this point in XP and then dropped it - I assume it was for technical reasons.
  13. In my country there are very few radio navaids now. All IFR aircraft are mandated to be fitted with atleast TSO129 GNSS and all routes are now RNAV routes. I teach IFR and we do teach radio aids if a student requires it (usually those aspiring to fly professionally) but it is mostly GNSS. I fly 1 NDB approach annually to simply keep my ability to be able to teach it valid. The days of clock, egg timer etc. like when I gained my Instrument Rating in 1985 are over.
  14. This is a forum, not a university thesis, so you can step down from your high horse, thanks.
  15. There are some pretty clever folks out there so is a solution to this issue a realistic prospect or too early to tell? That is quite a serious mountain to overcome.
  16. Probably the reason why FSL have been totally non-committal regarding their product.
  17. Yep, I think this is the reality that many need to face. The desperation for it to live up to the pre-launch hype has made many blind to its very many shortcomings and limitations. I hope it matures as well, like anyone does, but much of the pre-launch hyperbole has fallen somewhat flat at this point.
  18. Wow, you can't please anyone. Luckily the thread only runs for two pages, so you can find the specifics yourselves. Here it is boys
  19. Not a link but an excerpt of RSR's post "2) We have stated very clearly that we do not anticipate being able to release a product in MSFS for 6-12 months post the release of MSFS. The platform simply isn't ready for products as complex as ours. We are working very well and very closely with Asobo and further cooperation and effort is definitely the rule of the day- but a release is some ways off still."
  20. Why all the bloodlust for anyone who has anything but glowing praise for MFS?
  21. Maybe it should have been called a "Prologue" version??
  22. I find it interesting that so many are so forgiving and understanding about a release that clearly now is in beta state at best. Yet, over the last few years how many have rolled their eyes and vilified software addons releases in similar state as well as the people who bought them described as "paying beta testers".
  23. I would have to look at my records but I'm pretty sure it was just a redownload of your installer. The installer is a combined v4/5 installer.
