  1. Have you updated your GTN to the latest version 2.5.28.0 released a day or two ago?
  2. I think they would arrive here, see what we are up to, and then conclude there is no intelligent life to be found.
  3. You wouldn't get ice accumulation like that at 37,000 feet in real life
  4. Thr GTN doesn"t have a radio altimeter it works off it's terrain database.
  5. Haven't times changed when a 1GB update is considered small 😁. I remember well in the Compuserve days downloading a 1MB file on a 14.4k modem that took forever!
  6. Keep it simple! Lot's of rule of thumb without the mental gymnastics. On crosswind, look over your shoulder and when the threshold is at 45 degrees (horizontally), turn downwind (another method is look over your shoulder and when the tail crosses the runway, turn downwind. On downwind, when the approach threshold is 45 degrees (horizontally) over your shoulder, turn base On downwind in a high wing Cessna, the runway runs along the wing strut about 2/3 up the strut on a left circuit, half way on a right circuit.
  7. Just confirm your latest GNS version is 2.4.21.2? This is typically a symptom of the GNS after a P3D update until the GNS itself is updated to be compatible.
  8. A few Monday morning quarterbacks here. Certainly the instructor would probably have to have coffee and cookies with the Chief Instructor of the school as to why this flight went pear shaped, no doubt, as well as a very detailed debrief with the student. As a fellow instructor, I find it hard to believe the student would have been sent solo if the CFI didn't think they were capable of it. We don't know if it was a first solo or a subsequent solo. If it was a first solo, it is something not taken lightly by the CFI - lots of other factors are taken into account besides their ability to fly the aircraft. It is not uncommon for a student to get the "yips" occasionally - that looked like a fairly busy environment. So, before you hang the Instructor, the full story would be useful.
  9. If it is anything like P3D, the option to install the Trainer is there if you already have the Trainer installed - the Trainer is quite a large download and install. I think I am correct in saying that the XPlane GTN would also require the Trainer to be installed - it cannot run without it. The issue regarding Trainer version is that I have only just read elsewhere that a new version has been released, and as far as I know the RXP isn't compatible yet. I don't think the Trainer download gives you an option - you must download the latest version which isn't compatible yet.
  10. I'm not familiar with the XPlane architecture, but how can the GTN run without it?
  11. What version of the GTN Trainer do you have installed?
  12. Maybe wait until JL issues an update which I'm sure will come once he has time to assess what changes are needed?
  13. I don't believe it is coming to MSFS anytime soon, although I do not speak for RealityXP.
  14. Put your helmet and flack jacket on.
  15. Have a read of this thread GNS530/430 Database
  16. They'll sort you out in no time once you submit a ticket 👍
  17. Do we need to keeo asking this question? Call it what you like.
  18. 10 kts of airspeed? That's like extending the gear. To have this on entering a cloud is totally bogus.
  19. Easy fix - with my students I cover the AH for the entire lesson and show them we can fly in VFR without it. Very useful when teaching basic sequences like straight & level and turning. Even more fun is to cover the ASI as well to truly teach them that Power + Attitude = Performance.
  20. Best thing to do is post in the PMDG's own support forum and/or file a support ticket
  21. Agree. Still have it on my bookshelf and will dust it off. Great read.
  22. Hopefully he is finally reunited with his friend Jack Ridley.
  23. I agree. I usually love watching Steveo's content because I love TBM's and what he does - this was certainly not one of his better efforts.. However, this time I think he's let himself down and I certainly didn't "smash the thumbs up button" this time. It was clear the presence of the lady was simply for the views - she didn't really add to the aviation theme. It maybe different in other countries, however in mine, as a multi instructor myself, the culture is not to carry passengers when conducting asymmetric training, however it may be different in the USA. Out of professional courtesy I won't say anything about the instructor other than to say "each to their own".
