  1. @Tom: the baron and the king air are just excellent, i appreciate the improvements you are bringing to the sim. side slipping works fine now, even for the c172. but xpx has a huge hangar, it might be impossible to bring all of them to that level. eventually, you should mark some as 'premium' aircrafts and others as 'basic', so everybody knows what to expect. people here might start complaining about the more exotic ones as soon as they can't find anything missing on the prominet ones...
  2. i hope there will be some new scenery asset coming. haven't seen any pics. concerning ai aircrafts i assume we have to wait for 3es parties stepping in...
  3. Hey fs_av, let me say it in your words. it doesn't matter anymore if it is RIGHT OR WRONG what you "say" in THIS forum about X-Plane 10. Your presumptuous critics in ANYTHING related to our "little" simulator and your schoolmasterly teachings to ANYBODY who WANTS TO CONTRIBUTE here is just annoying me... Regards, Heiko
  4. I thought this topic is about our pleasant anticipation of the upcoming x-plane 10.10 and not again about this useless, nonsense discussion around FSX versus X-Plane. Please open another "FSX versus X-Plane" thread if you all are so eager to discuss about that, i can a lot of save time then... Are there any screenies of that upcoming columbia 400? Couldn't find any info on it...
  5. also waiting for the next beta. Maybe I was a little bit spoiled by the fast pace of updates and the daily communication in the first months after release. Ben and Austin are pretty quiet lately... But as they are such a small team, they might not able to roll-out all the planned stuff and keep us in the loop... I remember, there was some talk that the next Beta might be published End of April / Beginning of May. But as there were also some ups and downs with each Build, it is better to take a deep breath and some extra time and deliver a bigger chunk and better polished this time. I just hope that are no huge showstoppers (e.g. ATI) or other circumstances (e.g. sickness) that prevend the team from progressing with the product. I hope for some adjustments of the turbulence settings, then i can even better practice crosswind landings for my PPL-A :Peace: And BTW, a new, highly detailed oil rig should also be in 10.10, Screenshots were posted.
  6. hopefull for what? Microsoft has left behind our hobby and this community long ago...
  7. You can fly a c172/c152 without hands at the Yoke- it has nice stability, only pitch trim is required. in stress situations, e.g in clouds, it can be wise to give control back to the aircraft, the aircraft will level out on its own. unfortunately you can't do that in x-plane c172.
  8. no. i wouldn't download it even if it would be freeware, and... no force feedback - no ms flight.
  9. of course, it is my personal opinion. i tried for years to attract some of my friends for the passion of flight simulation. Some of them are gamers and also interested in aviation.None of them had a clue how to deal with free flight. What should i do now? where should i start? where do i have to fly to? What Wheather, what time? which plane is good for me?-> So you start with the great fsx built-in training school (for the interested ones in technics) or some nice missions (for those who want to understand quick why it is fun).i think the missions in FSX were a start, but not enough to attract them on the long run. No story, no briefing, no consequences or career path...-> So they fly 2-3 missions, but as there was no progress they lost interest.it is a big hurdle to become an addicted flight simmer - i think it is the key goal for flight to catch that market and even flight made a lot of the adressed issues better that fsx, it still fails (at the moment) to clear that path...
  10. good review.i use fsx and x-plane10 to fly my VFR flight planning sheets created during the navigation lessons in our flight school.i need the correct location, nav aids, plane (mostly c172 or c152) and weather. I can't do that with ms flight.
  11. unfortunately, i have to agree with Simmerhead and the IGN review. Flight fails badly in trying to attract casual gamers.no "pilot" career mode with some story background or unexpected flight events - fspassengers, airhauler, fscaptain, fseconomy would have been good inspiration...no life in the scenery - no ground personnel, no plane spotters, no passengers, no traffic, no ai - nothingpoor graphics - for current gamesand it does not support my MS sidewinder ff2, so i can't enjoy it as well :-(Regards,Heiko
  12. I love the buildings in image 27 & 31. They really look like german constructions of the 70ties and 80ties.You have to bring this into the global scenery, same for the farms. As freeware might be nice of course, but only a handfull of people will find it. And the variety of buildings really makes the difference...
  13. Also enthusiasts go for eye candy, the ui is a vital part of the overall experience. There is not too much difference between nicely looking aircraft textures and a good map with weather information. Where is the different between an intuitive airport selection versus easy handling of transponder knobs...
  14. Hey, why doesn't Laminar reduce the texture size of clouds if it has a positive effect on the framerate??? They are hunting for every FPS...
  15. The ui needs a massive overhaul. i was really shocked when i started x-plane 10 the first time. It told me "go away, you wimp - this one is for experts only"some configuration screens are way too cryptic and overloaded, others totally useless for end-users (e.g. debugging screens)I expect a consumable and intuitive experience - regardless of the complexity behind. apple showed to me that this is possible, and also FS 3rd parties devs try to simplify their UIs as much as possible (rex, etc.)I want to dive into the experience while planning & flying and forget the technology around me. But x-plane tells me every minute "Wake up little chicken, I am a super realistic software development beast - just look how many cool switches and parameters i have implemented"the welcome screen with puff algorithm in the background says it all...
  16. 10.04b2 introduces some enhancements on view control :-) . Let's try it once available and see what is still missing...
  17. indeed. turbulences in real weather are just ridculous. i thought it would have been fixed easily in one of the first betas. now i just hope it gets adressed at all...
  18. I have objects on 'insane' with fully loaded OSM2XP scenery, tons of buildings in every german city. It runs nicely as long as "world detail distance" is medium, for me it looks perfect that way...
  19. For many european countries, Osm2xp is just fantastic. german cities are very accurate, this is more than plausible... Everybody should fly over german cities and see this once http://osm2xp.com/@Ben: Thanks for providing that great too, the results are hust stunning. I have some questions:Is there also a roadmap to use xp object library instead of opensceneryx? Would this be feasible? What comes next? Improved texture quality or some more fancy lights for global illumination? :Money Eyes:I wish you could bring the results into standard xp10 delivery. Europe is a big market for x-plane, and as long as there is no Autogen miracle, this is the best approach i can imagine. I hope you are in contact with LM or even better Aerosoft.Regards,Heiko
  20. as stated in bens blog, fps depend on gpu fillrate, gpu bandwidth and cpu speed...objects depend on fillrate, with my gtx570 this does not take a huge fps hit at all.check your gpu numbers...
  21. apples with oranges...Reduce the cloud settings to ~25, visually not much of a difference but framerate increases. At current build, the cloud slider (and clouds in general) seems to be not yet perfectly balanced.Regards,Heiko
  22. please, relax a little bit. i will not comment on everything you wrote. In fact, there might be situations in life where i feel similar as you do now and claim a right or something. But not in regard to our hobby, not about laminar or the community here. I enjoy following ben's & others blogs, there open communication style and the steadily progress x-plane makes.I agree, beta 10 was not good - just imagine it is fixed tomorrow with Beta 11. The only thing that stays is a guy called m_av who has no respect for the people behind this and their community.Regards,Heiko
  23. everybody posting in this forum, including you, is aware that x-plane 10 is still heavily modifying & optimizing the code. So there are and will be backlashs - at least until the official release x-plane global scenary end of february. And even then LM will provide frequent updates - as all the other software producers do. fsx is an excpetion here, and we know why...so don't just rant around here, in other forums you would be called a troll...
