  1. In a new 32 bit Vista install using 4 gig RAM, tamed with UAC turned off and one or two other bits n pieces, I get OOM errors. But then I get them in other OS types too. After using the USERVA trick and increasing Virtual Memory to the max advised by Windows under a custom setting, instead of allowing Windows to run it I no longer get OOM errors. I feel so confident with this now I know its going to stop them, I don`t just hope and pray. I`ve been doing it a long time now with many hardware/software installs and variations. Its an old tried and trusted trick which, at least for me, always works.
  2. Thanks guys, I fear I will have to reinstall. But I will try this, I have an excellent little program that resets FSX in the registry. You can choose where the install will be set in the registry by typing in or pasting in the address in the program then pressing OK and it either sets or resets as necessary. Right back to my dilemma as I didn`t explain too well though the answers seem about right. First off tried the battery, its only OC settings it doesn`t retain and even a new battery doesn`t fix it-the OC works for a few days then slips back to a normal setup and a standard 3.06 gig CPU. It did this perfectly before the thunderstorm and worked months on end. The faults only occurred after the storm when the power went low on the estate, a week later the PSU blew with a loud bang and the board has been wonky donkey ever since. Drivewise I was forced to install the OS on the 160 Gig because the board would not accept the 1 TB or another 500 Gig Sata drive as Master, but will accept them both as Slave drives. Therefore FSX was put on the 1 TB (not a partition) as the D:/ I tried a jumper but that didn`t do anything and I thought Sata drives didn`t need these anyway. The only thing I can figure is maybe the drives are Sata II and the board is Sata I but thats only a guess. The 160 gig is from an old Acer Amd 3800 installation so its old enough to be Sata I. Luckilly it saved me. Perhaps I may have more luck with the new motherboard in this, only time will tell. If I have to reinstall all of it then I`ll just stop up mpost of the night to ensure its done in time, if necessary. Thanks again.....
  3. Last week I got a new processor and as funds are quite linmited I put it in a mobo I knew was a little tempermental. It only started that way after a thunderstorm and a power outage, then a week later the PSU blew. Anyway, I fitted the CPU and that works brilliantly but the mobo is buzzing loudly and will not hold the settings. So I ordered a new one thats due here next Wednesday as I couldn`t find one locally to accept the DDR2 I have, only DDR3 and cannot afford to replace that too. When I wiped the drive whilst fitting the CPU I for a change, due to one reason and another, decided to put the OS on a 160 gig SATA drive and FSX on the D Drive with my PMDG and other aircraft, this is a 1TB Sata drive. From those people who split the drives regularly can you tell me if I can get away without reinstalling the FSX and aircraft, just reinstall the C:\ (160 gig) and make a shortcut to FSX or will it not work due to changes being necessary in the registry and/or licensing? Not been down this particular road before..... Sorry PMDG, but yet another necessary change is needed. I`ll face that as and when/if I need to reinstall everything. Just realised this should have gone in the hardware section, so feel free to move it and sorry, my mistake.
  4. Pilots I believe are rostered to practise the autolands on a schedule to ensure they work when needed. So I guess just like them we need to try it out every so often. I know in the LVLD 767 I hardly ever use it but do try it out now and then. It always feels like a nailbiting moment to me. Will it work, won`t it, have I set everything correctly, would I be better just landing it myself?
  5. Looking good here and well due. I just ordered a new mobo and its here next Wednesday so that gives me time to wipe the system and get sorted. The new chip works fine but the old mobo is buzzing and will not hold the OC, even though small. Its never been the same since a power outage in a thunderstorm when the PSU blew a week or two later.
  6. Don`t worry in the least. I installed on about 6 machines since 2009 and recently found I couldn`t reinstall the J41, though the 747 was ok. A simple email and all was quickly sorted, then my reinstall began. I was told it wouldn`t be a problem unless I swapped machines again, I usually have 5-7 computers here though none are ultra powerful and the software only goes on my main machine. I gave 2 computers away to friends in the past who had a fault on theirs and 1 to my brother so a spare is always good. Then I got a CPU cheaply, had the right mobo and formatted my main machine drive again. Reinstall was no problem, though I did email PMDG to tell them I swapped, even though the reinstall didn`t present a problem-I wanted the change on record and the reason why. Be up front with PMDG and they`re brilliant with you.In your case, sorry about the long winded explanation above, all you`re doing is wiping the drive, rather than changing hardware. That should not present a problem and as you can see from the above you now have an example to go by. I too format at least every 6 months and never had a problem with any supplier at all. Just make sure you archive the installation file and textual copies of any emails. Then weeks/months later if you forget you have the full details in front of you. Keep them separate from your install drive, on a disk or an external drive. Have fun and enjoy, don`t worry PMDG are reputable and ok to get on with.Steve Brooks
  7. I`ve purchased downloads from all sorts of sources, including PMDG, and never a major problem. From Flight 1 I had to get my licence reset, no problem and very quick. JustFlight had a hacking problem once and the servers went down once, when they were back up all returned to normal and full notices were issued throughout. They now changed their policies so that its easier for the end user to reinstall and not have any hassles in situations like this. Finally, with PMDG I got the 747 and the J4100 by download. My licence ran out, replies to my emails were polite and explained the problem in full. I installed on 6 computers (one at a time in use) inside 2 years or so. Not a problem, got a personal email in reply and the install was reset with no fuss whatsoever. My method on purchasing a download. Before I go off and play I make a folder with the name of the aircraft. Into which I place a copy of the downloaded file AND any emails I recieve, the latter I do in a text file and call them Email 1, Email 2 etc. As time goes on any updates and further emails go straight into this folder. I then place the folder in a main folder called "Archive" on my external drive, this has a sub folder called "Flight Sim" and a further sub folder called "Payware Aircraft". Never a problem that cannot be fixed and complete confidence in downloads from reputable companies. I then install from the version on the desktop only and leave that there a few days before deleting as I have an archive version and can contact PMDG or whoever if that proves buggy.I offer this post, that does go around the houses a little, so that you have an idea of how to protect your investment and get the same feeling of security in making your purchases. To me its as good as buying a boxed product but takes up less space. Have confidence, done properly and sensibly you have no worries.Steve Brooks
  8. I would like to see the traditional PMDG textures please (I usually use them for testing and real world variants for routes). Easijet for definate and any British jets possible. I`ll be getting the base pack so anything British + Easijet for the 800/900 would be cool. By the time the other variants come out I think a few home brewed ones will be available.Steve Brooks
  9. Excellent pricing structure, many thanks. I must say with my budget I`m happy just to get the base package and what it contains. But who knows what lays further down the road, I may update those needs and this way makes that possible. Thanks once again and lets hope its on time or early.Steve Brooks
  10. I didn`t add in my previous post glad to see a light at the end of the tunnel and looking forward to this a lot. Gives me a chance to save the money up after I spent it on a new CPU last weekend.I say KSAN - KOAKSteve Brooks
  11. I often get that after I`ve wiped a drive and not completed my changes to fine tune FSX and all my aircraft. More often than not if I look outside the cockpit a lot whilst in flight it brings it on the most. But even without that it happens as I`m approaching the airport, all of a sudden an OOM error and thats it flight over. Looking back through my records you will see I installed the J41 on 6 computers since about 2009 or something, I was told this recently in an email from PMDG. I have multiple computers here and change every so often, in fact I`ve just put in a new CPU, changed mainboard and borrowed the PSU from another machine I have this weekend just gone. But one thing stops the OOM errors for me, I won`t explain why, no idea but in every case I do this and it stops them dead.(1) Use the USERVA command BCDEDIT /Set IncreaseUserVa 3072 typed in as a RUN command(2) Custom increase Virtual Memory to the max advised by Windows instead of allowing Windows to control it.I then reboot and no more OOM errors at all.I use Vista 32 bit (its good once you turn off UAC and tame it) with 4 gig ram and a 1 gig 240GT currently, but same problem with an 8600GT and a 7600GT, both of which I still use in other machines. Even if its considered this shouldn`t be the fix it seems to work and has worked through every build I have. Without it I get the dreaded OOM errors.I post this in case it helps anyone else.....Steve Brooks
  12. For anyone else reading I had a problem with my J41 key recently too. Thankfully PMDG helped me and very quickly. I have for my sins about 5-7 computers here. Two are in bits and one is a MAC Mini so only 4 PC`s are working though I borrowed the PSU off one as no spare, but none being very powerful. As a system builder of old I network them all and often swap my main machine about as I get either AMD or Intel parts. In doing so the key ran out because I`d made so many changes in the past. My 747 hasn`t had this problem yet but I use the J41 more so I guess thats why it happened.I have a new CPU coming hopefully tomorrow so I may be facing the problem again. Its only a 3 gig E6600 but still better than the 2gig AMD chip I have in currently, though it seems to manage well enough-being a quad core. This means another case and motherboard change from my collection, plus borrow the PSU, memory and DVD drive as I blew the last PSU in a thunderstorm or shortly after, so I`ll be facing someones wrath at PMDG again lol. Now I spent the 737 NGX money so I`ll have to scrimp some more. I thought I`d have enough time to pull it back and took the chance it wouldn`t get released yet so I`d swap the CPU out just now.Steve Brooks
  13. For the flight sim lover some flights are just mundane, others just seem to have that special something. Maybe flying into or out of a sunset, lightening in the sky, a new dawn, the look and feel of the aircraft. All at once it all comes together and maybe makes you think "FSX is really great in what it shows and does, how it works", then it leads you on to think about the aircraft and every little detail it shows, how it flies, reacts, feels and operates. It matters not that the same weather and effects, aircraft characteristics occur in other flights. Its all come together in this one particular journey and aircraft. The mind has been heightened to all that's happening around the virtual pilot, the sights, scenes and pleasure down to the smallest detail. So it is that this beta tester has shared his experience, that moment that strikes most of us from time to time. I`d much rather see news/experience of this kind than hear nothing at all. If I felt that these effects could be seen elsewhere and it was nothing much then I believe I`d just skim read this thread and pass it on without remark. Leaving others to appreciate the thoughts and experience they may appreciate. Also, if I just wanted a taxi ride from A to B I think I`d choose one of the myriad of planes out there with a simple get in and fly method, maybe the stock 737-800. Wanting more than this, I choose the likes of LVLD and PMDG to experience much more detail in my flights and aircraft. Many thanks for sharing.....Steve Brooks
  14. I own both the PMDG J41 and the 747 which I waited a long long time to complete, knowing I`d purchase it if it killed me. The J41 was an impulse purchase, not planned but has turned out to be one of the very few aircraft I`d list as the best I have. The only other company I hold in this same esteem is LVLD. Historically though I know from the planes I have that the next PMDG plane will not disappoint me whatsoever. With the PMDG 737 NGX its another one I waited for, 737`s are a big interest for me and this one sounds far and away to be much more than just a leader of the field, more one that defines the field!Unfortunately funds were not available to get the MD11 and its touch and go to get this one but I know at some point I will fill my virtual hanger with both of them. I am a semi invalid, on a limited budget, so I have to make sure my purchases are really going to be worth all the investment in money I cannot spare too easilly. One final word, I own lots of planes, freeware and purchased. Light planes and jets. But the ones I keep going back to are LVLD (yes the 767) and the PMDG 747/J4100 with perhaps the J4100 most used, even though I didn`t plan its purchase-its just so addictive. Do I need to think twice, with limited funds, about another PMDG purchase? Not at all......Steve Brooks
  15. Its EGNJ Humberside to EGNJ Humberside for me. I do all my testing here. Fly out from runway 21, turn to the river Humber, over to Hull on the far side, turn and head for RW21 again to test the landing. After that its most likely learn the cold and dark scenario whilst parked up at EGCC or EGGP. Then roll out testing from EGCC Manchester or EGGP Liverpool to either EHAM Amsterdam or LEPA Palma, maybe both. Then the return journey/s, if I turn off first I usually save so I can head back from the exact same spot. I just wish PMDG models had an opening window, I love to open a window and signify I got there by feeling that virtual fresh air.Steve Brooks
  16. I`m a semi invalid on a limited income so yes the price does matter. Thankfully we`ll soon see what the price is and then I need to find a way to meet it any way I can. As for movies, that doesn`t happen-not that I have much need for it.Steve Brooks
  17. I am a beta tester for a few companies inc one that does LCD units for the Superbowl cameras and F1 cars. I tested Traffic X and have my mispelt name in the manual, something I`m still proud of even if it is spelt wrong. I`ve always found a chosen team dedicated to the product, knowledgeable enough to find their own way through using the product under test works best in all the places I`ve beta tested for. But apart from all this, the smaller the team the less likely it is someone is going to give away the details of the product under test. Keep it as is, PMDG have been doing this long enough to know what they`re doing and what works best for them.Steve Brooks
  18. I`m just glad of the very welcome news. No questions, I`d rather let you get on with it.................................are we there yet? :( Steve Brooks
  19. I have a cheap Binatone E Reader (£65 from Asda) and have had the PMDG manuals on for some time. Great when I need to catch up with a few details or browse a manual. Much better than digging out my printouts. I have Win7 tips and secrets, PMDG and other manuals, plus free E books to read. I`ve never looked back since I got mine. I don`t know how many colours are available but mine shows the full blue in the PMDG Logo at least. Admittedly I used to think the Kindle was no good to me but having used an E Reader now I`d get one if anything happened to this one. The Kindle should run the PMDG manuals as well as my present one. Though I have been reading about a new one due out that has touch facilities. Probably better than all that constant button pressing to forward the pages. Either way I`m glad I took the chance and got one.Steve Brooks
  20. Nice one. You deserve it all after your hard work and dedication. Have fun and enjoy,Reider
  21. I must say that is one of if not the fairest offer I have ever seen. It does PMDG a great deal of justice. I could not pass without making comment on it. I now have renewed faith in humanity.Reider
  22. >There will not be any missile pods lol...The stale bread buns sound a good idea though, feared the world over. I can just see all those terrorists with broken teeth...... lolReider
  23. I already knew about this adjustment and a few more besides. So I was going to skip the thread and move on. However, I would like to point something out. As a child I had severe Bronchitis and Asthma, now as an adult I have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulminary Disorder), but the point is I missed a lot of schooling when younger. Lately I have completed a Learn Direct course for the ECDL, Level 1 and 2 City & Guilds Mathematics and currently studying English City & Guilds. My geography was always weak, extremely weak. Using a GPS as a moving map only, with the PMDG 747 and my Level D 767 using its own system for route planning, helps me to see where specific locations exist in the world. This gives me a greater understanding of routes, where countries are in relation to one another, where mountain ranges are, adjoining countries and borders. I`m nearly 49 and still learning, enjoying it immensely in this way too. I am not alone in this, many people have the same needs, so please think outside the box too. Your world is not necessarily everyone else's world, we all see it through different eyes and have a different understanding of concepts and ideas.Reider
  24. Probably the dll.xml is corrupted, SimConnect has always been a weak area. One of your 3rd party add ons may have corrupted it. This is how mine looks.....<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252" ?>Launchdll.xmlFalseFalseTraffic ToolboxFalseFalse..Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDKSDKEnvironment KitTraffic Toolbox SDKtraffictoolbox.dllVisual Effects ToolFalseFalse..Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDKSDKEnvironment KitSpecial Effects SDKvisualfxtool.dllLevel-D SimulationsFalseFalseModulesLVLD.dllFSUIPC 4FalseModulesFSUIPC4.dllPMDG OptionsFalsePMDGDLLsPMDGOptions.dllPMDG EventsFalsePMDGDLLsPMDGEvents.dllPMDG SoundsFalsePMDGDLLsPMDGSounds.dllObject Placement ToolFalseFalse..Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDKSDKMission Creation Kitobject_placement.dllThis affects the file menu in FSX and if its corrupted then either stuff does not appear in the menu or in severe cases FSX fails to start. Only a guess, but thats my take on it anyway. Start by uninstalling 3rd party add ons and reintroduce them one at a time until you find the offending item.I had no problems, but then I clean installed in this order....FSX Deluxe, Acceleration (includes SP1 and SP2), SDK, SDK SP1a, SDK Acceleration Version. I tried the SDK SP2 version and prefer the Acceleration one as some items were missing from the file menu with the SDK SP2. Best to start FSX before applying SP1 and the same with SP2, so it at least builds the FSX.cfg Likewise if you take the FSX/Acceleration route instead. Then, one by one under test conditions reintroduce 3rd part aircraft/programs and check for problems.Reider
