  1. There's an old saying which springs to mind, 'if you have nothing good to say, then don't saying anything at all'. Old sayings exist for a reason, you know.
  2. Yesterday where my wife and I went for a hike near the Italian side of Lake Lugano, it was 20 C ! We couldn't believe how mild it was. It's supposed to be back down to 11 C today but wow, such huge contrasts in winter weather with other parts of the world.
  3. Hah...that wouldn't surprise me. I doubt that it is out of pure ethics that they don't allow it. There is always a business angle.
  4. I briefly had a 13700k prebuilt with an RTX 4090 for a week over Christmas. I had to send it back because of issues with the AIO (and I didn't want to void the warranty by messing with it). Whilst my PC was thermal throttling due to the above reason, from all the research I did online figuring out the issue, the one thing I noticed is how many people are having serious heat issues with either their 13900k or 13700k. It's quite absurd. So many people are having to undervolt their CPU just to get it to not regularly hit 100 degrees under load and thermal throttle loosing the very performance they paid an arm and a leg for. I must admit that I am still tempted to pull the trigger on a 13900k and tired of waiting but with all those heating issues I am wondering if it is not better to wait for the 7950 3D model. I'm not sure the heat issue will be much better but something has me feeling that Intel have pushed their 10nm process a bit too much with Raptor lake and unless you know how to undervolt and play around with tonnes of bios settings etc., that it is kind of hard to get the most out of chip. I just want to plug and play. What are your thoughts? Are the latest AMD CPUs generally more plug and play than Intel when it comes to not having to tinker with bios to avoid being able to fry an egg on the CPU?
  5. One huge glaring issue here that is highly misleading with these '30%' performance increase claims is that they're referring to gaming at 1080p. In 4K, that'll probably be more like a 5% gain or maybe even zero when compared with the 13900k. I understand 1080p is used as a measurement of true 'bottleneck free' raw CPU performance in games, but it is kind of silly too, let alone totally misleading for those of us using 4K monitors. Considering the 13900k already has a decent amount of L2 and L3 cache, and is only 5% on average faster than the 13700k with much less L2 and L3 cache, it begs the question of how much uplift in 4K can additional V cache really be expected to offer at similar or lesser clock speeds? I have no doubt at least one or more of their 3D chips will beat the 13900k but probably it won't be by very much in 4K (my guess is by no more than 5% in MSFS in 4K) and will be significantly more expensive.
  6. Just a quick update (also it might help someone else in the same situation). I contacted the manufacturer who built the PC explaining that the AIO was only connected to the CPU fan slot and not also to the AIO pump slot. Their technical support straight away replied that the AIO should indeed be connected to both slots and that the AIO pump slot should be connected. They proposed trying to connect it myself if I could find the cable inside the case. Unfortunately, the cables were all tied so tightly together at the back of the case with cable ties that it was literally impossible to see which cable was which and given the tightness, cutting the cable ties could risk accidently damaging the cables, something which after spending four grand, I am not willing to do (the risk being then blamed for it if I still don't get the pump working properly). I have never seen cable ties bound so tightly. Very neat but completely impractical when trying to safely cut them open. The issue of course with that is the risk of voiding the warranty if I damage anything so I took the option of sending it back to the third party supplier who unfortunately have no more similar builds in stock. I have requested a refund and will start the difficult saga again of finding a decent 4090 build. It seems very hard to buy a pre-built PC these days that does not arrive either damaged or with some kind of issue or build error. So much for quality control. I would build it myself but where I live (Switzerland) has a terrible returns policy making it very hard to send any parts back if they don't work. Only for the fact I paid an extra 159 francs (about 159 dollars) for an extended warranty with this PC that entitles me to a refund if there's a problem, I would instead be waiting months for a repair.
  7. Thanks for your advice. I had a look online for MSI software but I can only see their Dragon control center software which when I install it, doesn't seem to recognise my system probably because my motherboard is from ASUS? Do you know if there is any other specific MSI software to control the fans or should I just use the ASUS control center. EDIT: I just checked in the Asus Armory app and it lets me choose a fixed RPM speed of my CPU fan but for the AIO pump it only lets me choose 'smart mode' and says 0 RPM!! I don't know if it is not reading the RPM of the actual AIO Pump because it is made by MSI but it is weird it would say 0 RPM and not let me adjust it. I assume the AIO pump should have an RPM reading right?
  8. I see during loading the package temperature goes from 97 C to 100 C and sitting on the runway in TBM at Chicago O'Hare, it is hovering around 82 C. After takeoff it is at 80 to 90 C and frequently thermal throttles hitting 100 degrees then bouncing back into the 80s. I am using FS Dreamteam KORD.
  9. I have seen that too but surely it wouldn't instantly throttle in MSFS? What would be the point of having a boost of 5.4ghz if it immediately throttles back to 4.5ghz? Would a better cooler than what I have prevent this and why would my time spy CPU score be so low with my current cooler? My timespy result overall is 31165 (bottom 22% when compared with similar spec PCs) and my time spy CPU score is only 17218. Basically I want to at least try first to rule out if my MSI MAG Coreliquid P360 cooler is inadequate or not for this CPU? Advice on that single point would be a great starting point. I know there are lots of folk on here with far more knowledge of CPU coolers than myself and might be able to tell me if this cooler is inadequate amd the likely cause of the thermal throttling and high temps. Here is the MSI website for the specific water cooler in question... https://www.msi.com/Liquid-Cooling/MAG-CORELIQUID-P360
  10. Thanks but first it would be great if anyone could confirm if my existing cooler is likely inadequate or not?
  11. I just bought a new prebuilt PC for MSFS with 13700k and an RTX 4090 (asus z690 tuf gaming plus wifi motherboard and 32gb ddr5 ram). I notice in MSFS that if I fly in a demanding areas like Chicago or NYC on default ultra settings, my CPU instantly thermal throttles back to 4.5ghz. I notice my temperatures are hitting around 100 degrees forcing this to happen. Is this normal? In TimeSpy I notice my score is really low for my CPU (17,218) and I can see the temperature shoot up to 100 degrees celcius in the tests as soon as the CPU test is run in the benchmark. I have even tried undervolting the cpu today and it made my results far worse. The PC comes with an MSI MAG Coreliquid P360 water cooler and my idle temps are at 41 degrees which feel a little high. I can find ni info online at all of this particular water cooler being used with 13th gen cpus which makes me suspicious. It appears to date back to 2020 but there is very little info on it. I have a feeling that this water cooler is not sufficient enough for cooling my 13700k and may be the source of the issue. Can anyone weigh in if this is indeed the case. If so what would you recommend to do? Reapplying the thermal paste to see if that helps or simply buying a new cooler (and if so which one)? Any help or advice would be much appreciated so I don't go wasting a load of money needlessly.
  12. The word bespoke is so overused, I cringe whenever I hear it.
  13. Same with me. I find Accuseason to be less accurate than Bijan's Seasons in terms of type of tree depicted. I live in Ticino, Switzerland (where Lugano is located) and virtually all forests on this side of the Alps are made up exclusively of broadleaf deciduous trees. Yet accuseason depicts only pine trees across the entire region extending into Piedmonte and Lombardy in Northern Italy. It completely breaks the immersion as the region is heavily forested. It would nice if @rstough this could be fixed as it is totally wrong.
  14. Having bought several of their addons, I think this developer is great as well as very smart and slick with presentation style. At the same time though, it feels kind of ludicrous on Asobo's side that we need to pay for a better menu.
  15. You could try locking your fps to 30 or try 45 or 60 (or any other number) in the Nvidia control panel. That might help.
  16. Dev mode doesn't show the correct fps when frame generation is turned on. It will still only show the default fps. You need to use an external fps counter like the Nvidia or MSI one to actually see the correct fps once this mode is turned on. In any case, it seems like there may also be some other problem if you are seeing such low fps with such a powerful build. I assume your PSU is powerful enough?
  17. Yup, we've appeared to have been left high and dry. I'm afraid to say that 'Wing42' appear to be all fur coat and no knickers. Shame on them!
  18. I've been using it for ages now. Heck, my town won't even have Christmas lights this year due to energy shortage concerns so if I can save a tiny bit on using electricity in MSFS then I'm all for it.
  19. I completely agree with your post. And aside from that sales in general really aren't what they used to be. In the past stores often offered 10% off everything even if it was something relatively new in stock. Now it's mostly still over priced word not allowed they are trying to get rid of bar a few rare exceptions.
  20. Interesting. Pity they don't have the 50% off and bigger discounts like they used to.
  21. Yeah, that'd be great. It surprises me how many of these aircraft actually need it.
  22. My 2 cents on it is that if you are big into flight preparation and regularly sit on the tarmac for about 30 minutes before taxi going through checklists etc. then you'll get the most out of GSX and likely enjoy it, warts and all. I only have the demo like you but I'll probably wait until more features are added and refined before purchasing.
