FMC freeze
Hello all, Currently flying LFMN-LICJ on the NG. Standard route, SODRI6A dep and GIANO2B arr with VOR-Z 07 approach. There is a discontinuity in the missed approach route (Navigraph AIRAC 1605). I canceled it and was on my way to Sicily. During cruise the FMC froze and I was unable to modify the route (directs). Apparently, what happened was that canceling that discontinuity made the FMC freeze. To unfreeze it, I simply uploaded my route again and made sure to not touch the missed app segment. Thats it! I don't know if it is a Navigraph bug or a NGX bug, but thought it would be useful to report it here. Mods, please feel free to delete if already discussed. Happy flying, Alex

Likelihood of a PMDG 787?
If I look at my PMDG hangar, there is a gap between the NGX and the 777/744v3. So from this point of view only, I would like to see some airliner in the 757/767/787 category. In the light of this, a PMDG 757/767 would really fit nicely and would be not so much of a challenge to build. Furthemore, it will bring some classic feel to our sim  Happy flying to all

FMC ECON Mach with wind
Hi Alpha Floor, 2. Yes, I agree with that. I was refering to the fact that LRC on the NG (which approximates CI35 according to Boeing) remains unchanged whatever the wind component you encounter. 100kts headwind or 100kts tailwind will give you the same IAS. CI ECON speed is an all other ball game, due to the fact that it takes wind component into consideration (faster in headwind, slower in tailwind). Apparently, this is not modeled in the NGX. By the way, MRC approximates CI 0. It is not CI 0. At least that is the way I understand it. 3. Yes again  . CI has an effect on VNAV descent speed. The higher the CI, the higher the descent speed. From memory, CI 0 will give you less than 250 KIAS* while CI 45 will give you 290 KIAS. WInd and temperature have no effect on these speeds, only the CI. VNAV climb speeds OTH are temp and wind sensitive (faster in headwind, slower if above ISA). *Here the NGX simulates older FMC (U10.6 and earlier) which means that the VNAV descent speed is never slower than 250 KIAS. On the newer FMC (U10.7 and on) CI 0 gives you 240 KIAS... Ask the Ryanair guys about it

Most realistic viewpoint?
I have tried a lot to find a good balance (for me). Unfortunately, there is no way to reproduce the feeling of seating inside the cockpit. So you have to make compromises. Here is what I do now: - zoom .60 - center of the PFD - move the seat forward or aft to set the flaps gauge at the right border of the screen For departure and arrival, I use pop-ups. Happy flying

FMC ECON Mach with wind
Alpha Floor, some additional remarks to complete your post: 1. I can not say if those values in the picture are from the 737NG. Anyway the same principle applies to every aircraft flying with a Cost Index. 2. LRC is a fixed value regardless of the wind. This is one of the advantages of flying with a Cost Index. More flexible, therefore more economic. 3. VNAV climb speeds are affected by weight, temperature and wind. VNAV descent speeds OTH are only affected by weight and therefore are fixed (ie for a CI 30, VNAV descent speed is always 273 KIAS).

FMC ECON Mach with wind
Hi Kyle, In Boeing's material "Fuel conservation strategies: Cost Index explained", you read (p.27, figure 3) that ECON speed is optimized for wind conditions. Basically, when setting up the PERF INIT page, I tried different values for CRZ WIND and there was no change whatsoever to the ECON Mach speed. Apparently the NGX FMC does not replicate this feature or I missed something while studying it.

FMC ECON Mach with wind
I use CI 30. What I meant was, no matter which cost index I use, the computed ECON Mach remains the same regardless of the wind component. For example, let say you fly with a CI 30. With no significant wind, your ECON Mach will be around .786M, but with 100 Kts headwind, it will increase to something like .795M - I dont know the real figure - and with a 100 Kts tailwind, it will decrease in the same proportion. This is how I understand the real FMC works.

FMC ECON Mach with wind
Hello, First, sorry if it has already been discussed, I found nothing via the search function. I have noticed that the ECON cruise mach is unsensitive to headwind or tailwind. Did I miss anything in the FMC setup or this particular functionnality was left aside during NGX development? And if it was, what were the reasons? Happy flying! Alex

LNAV STAR issue
Thanks Kyle, downscc, pcubine for your help! Problem solved -> shame on me. Did a quick GRU-GRU this morning to make sure it was not a overspeeding issue... and it was. Elevated airfield height plus going too fast on arrival and voila! Reduced to a more realistic 220kias before downwind and the Triple behaved like expected! I just need to anticipate way more than what I do with the NGX. This is how deep PMDG goes! I guess you learn everyday. Have a great day! Alex

LNAV STAR issue
Hi Kyle, I was on A/P around 270-250 KIAS. In my example, we are flying from A to C with a right turn at B. Let say the AB leg is track 180° and the BC leg is track 270° (maybe more, maybe less). I would normally expect the plane to anticipate the turn 2 or 3 NM before B. Instead, the plane starts the right turn more than 5 miles before B at 25° bank angle and ends up right off track by 1 or 2 miles without reducing the bank angle. Then it corrects left and right again. Maybe I was too fast for the turn? Possible. What is even more puzzling me is that nothing like this happens during SIDs where you could also deal with tight turns... I guess it is one of those quirks I have to get used to. By the way how do you deal with speed during STARS especially with tricky turns? I guess in RW ops crew is being given vectors most of the time anyway... Thanks for your insight Edit: Right after this episode, I experienced an OOM. Do you think it could be related to some memory issue? Seems strange. I must say I almost never experience OOM. In some very rare occasions.

LNAV STAR issue
Hi Kyle, Let me try to be more specific. During climb and cruise, the plane behaves perfectly. But I noticed on some occasions while flying STARs with some tight turns, the plane tends to anticipate way much that what I would have expected it to do. Something I do not experience with the NGX. And as far as I remember I never experienced this "issue" before with the 777. So I asked myself - and the community - if maybe it could be related to the change of game controller (yoke to joystick). Should I reinstall the 777? Thanks for any help, Alex

LNAV STAR issue
Hi everybody, I am experiencing LNAV issue since a few days. I was using a Flightsim yoke with autocoordination ON and read that the PMDG 777 was not designed to be flown with autocoordination ON so I decided to switch to a joystick with rudder controlled by rotating the stick. I have to say that I rediscover my 777 and enjoy it a lot. But I also experience an over-anticipation of LNAV turns when following STARs. For example, I recently flew from KJFK to SBGR and followed the ANSUG1B arrival for ILS09R. At some point, the STAR commands you to turn right almost 90° to downwind track. 5 NM before the turn, the plane starts turning and very soon I find myself way inside the turn by more than 1 NM. The plane levels off, turn left to join the magenta line, then turn right again and overshoots the flightpath. (Am I clear? Hope so... ). I must precise that: - I have the latest version installed - this problem happened AFTER I changed my flight controller. - I have FSUIPC not registered Thank you for any insight! Cheers, Alex

[09DEC15] A Whole Lotta 747-400 Goodness!
Thank you for this amazing update Robert ! Each time I see a new 744v2 update here, I feel my blood pressure going up! What an amazing piece of art. Truely the most iconic longhauler. The first screenshot you posted of the 74 in its initial climb-out is absolutely timeless. Who has ever witnessed that know what I mean. The deep rumble of an earthquake, the screaming of the 4 engines at TO power, the nose that graciously points towards the sky. Love it. (You lucky Beta team... ) #thequeenisback

ATTN: PMDG Developers - Please look into doing the 767 series
Hello to all, A 757/767 combo would be amazing. Such a great family of planes. I definitely miss classic airliners with those great coulourful liveries of the 70s-80s !! I would fall for a PMDG 747 classic with all the variants... In a more practical way, we have now a good choice in long-range airplanes with the MD-11, the 777 and the upcoming 747v2. The 757 would fit perfectly in my hangar !! Come on PMDG !! Surprise us !!

RSR: "A year from now [...] the first previews of our upcoming 7_7 project"
Hoping the same ! We have two longhaul airliners, the 777 and the upcoming 744v2, and only one short/medium haul, the NGX. I think it would be intersting to have one more airplane in that category and the 757 seems like a logical choice here. Or, MD80 series ?... Just my 2 cents... Best regards, Alex

Slamming during Landing
Hello, Here is my guess. I had a similar problem, and I think it is general for all widebodies. In Settings - Display, you have to set the Mesh resolution slider to 10m or 30ft. Try this and see. Best regards, Alex

PMDG A350
As much as I can understand the fact that PMDG decided (or agreed, dont remember the exact story here...) to let LevelD develop its own 757, now it really seems that this project will never see the light of day. It would be the best choice to complete the "familiy" besides the NGX, the 777 and the 747v2. Come on PMDG, lets make that 757 and that 767 !! Love those airplanes... :im Not Worthy:

FMS INIT REF Transition altitude bug
Hello, After installing the SP1D update (as per Kyle recommandations) and the latest update (March 30th), I still get a bug with the transition altitude input in the INIT REF page. It sticks to the same value and does not take account of the value set in the aircraft profile. This bug was not there prior SP1D update. Any insight ? Best regards, Alex
