  1. Their VNAV isn't the best: http://qwsim.flight1.net/forums/vnav-descend-blues_topic4530.html#top But the rest is pretty solid.
  2. The METAR at the time of the accident included "WS ALL RWY " ("Windshear all runways"), so all over the field. The G/A was initiated by the crew. After the crew had advised ATC, ATC instructed them to climb to 4.000 ft. ATC audio was being scanned and recorded and can be accessed via certain live/archive ATC sites. There's been a lot of misinformation about this accident, some of it coming right from people at the airport - why???
  3. Landing gear was retracted again on a G/A without positive rate of climb and while still in windshear: http://avherald.com/h?article=49c12302&opt=0 According to some reports one person of the emergency services has died, but that report has not (yet) made it to the more serious sites.
  4. Seeing how the whole aviation industry has dealt with fume events/aerotoxic syndrome for decades I wouldn't rule out your scenario, either.
  5. What precisely should be the benefit an experienced professional pilot gains from exactly that route in FSX? Wouldn't he be better off studying RW charts and using different resources for flight planning and fuel calculations, for example? On the other hand, considering the number of flights I've played on my computer, chances are one of them could be connected with a RW flight under investigation.
  6. The point of the other topic is that "official licenses" deal with intellectual property (brands and logos, for example) and copyrights. They are completely independent of concepts like "ultimate realism" and "system depth". You can develop deep systems without any official Boeing licenses involved. And you can create officially licensed addons straight from the SDK, without any sophisticated custom-coded system modeling.
  7. Haven't we seen all this before? http://www.avsim.com/topic/381893-officially-licensed-by-boeing-quo-vadis/
  8. I'm unable to find a trial key request for ASN. Despite the fact that ASN is still being sold.
  9. The navigation system of the CS Tristar doesn't limit the autopilot modes available: Speed hold mode works with the ATS switched off automatically. (Manual throttle and the autopilot pitching for speed) Alpha mode works for the approach with the appropriate flaps settings (this feature is not available in the Justflight Tristar, not even in their Professional version). The CS Tristar also features the flare mode for autolands (non-existent in the Justflight Tristars). The CS INS system, as mentioned, offers quite some flexibility: CS INS autoloads a native FSX flightplan. CS INS can be operated more realistically by inserting waypoints manually. CS INS can be replaced by a "4th party" INS system: FREEWARE DELCO CAROUSEL IV-A INS You can revert to more basic lateral autopilot modes like VOR. IMO, the CS Tristar is very good, the autopilot is even better than in the Professional JF version. The MilViz Boeing is a very good plane, too, but the Tristar kinda attracts me more.
  10. As Dan said many different definitions of "memory use" exist. "Virtual Address Space" (VAS) specifically is not covered by the native Task Manager. But in order to manage the risk of out-of-memory crashes (OOM) it's precisely VAS what you have to monitor. Process Explorer (freeware) provides the VAS usage; FSUIPC (unregistered version is sufficient) provides VAS remaining. These two figures always add up to 4 GB or nearly 4,200,000 KB.
  11. Some VLJs activate the beacon light automatically when the (first) engine is being started. That's why no beacon light switch is required for the pilot(s). Probably as close as you can get towards a "requirement" to start the engine(s) in order to have certain aircraft lights switched on.
  12. Cool topic. What about beacon lights? On certain Very Light Jets, for example? (Hint: Some of those VLJs don't even have a beacon light switch in the cockpit.)
  13. Just download from here... http://support.aerosoft.com/index.php?action=show&products=630 ... and have your serial key ready. Oliver Maertens
  14. Am I correct to assume that this movie will not explain why the decision to start the APU was pivotal, as it ensured that the Airbus remained in normal law, which improved the result of the ditching? And no mentioning how important the actions of each member of the crew were for the fortunate outcome of the accident? F/O and cabin crew alike? No mentioning of vital favourable circumstances like the installed slides/life rafts and nearby emergency response? And no mentioning that today's crews - flightdeck and cabin alike - aren't trained and experienced anymore to handle an emergency like this one in an equally professional way? So, just the usual fictitious Hollywood one man show? I think this crew has deserved better ...
  15. William Edward Boeing had been the son of Wihelm Böing ... and Boeing's 100th birthday would have been Oct 1st 1981.
  16. Actually it's very simple: Publishers, don't just test the product. Test the installer and uninstaller also. On another note: Most flightsim installers create backups of the scenery.cfg, the dll.xml, and other files before changing them. How about an automatic backup of the registry by flightsim installers? I heard that registry cleaners and some anti-malware softwares do exactly that. As a another precautionary means for us users: Create a system restore point manually before starting any program that could affect the registry. And Richard did nothing wrong. But now I'd rather like to be prepared in case some developer or publisher drops the ball again.
  17. The timeline to meet is 180 days from date of purchase. Just a heads-up ...
  18. What a mess. Richard, pls. see here: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/112963-uninstalled-split-v141-corrupted-my-entire-installed-programs-list-win10/#comment-760466
  19. After a brief check I thought I was not affected. In fact I am, but some of the texture/morphing issues are hard to detect. In addition to an already significant no. of reports in the ORBX forum I am expecting large nos. of unreported/not yet reported cases
  20. Their preferred image hosting site had been down also. While that site is up again for new uploads, they haven't retrieved the older uploads yet. So older links to those pics don't show correctly yet, neither on the ORBX forums, nor on any other one. Looks like the only ORBX thing running fine currently, is John Venema's Porsche! EDIT: Currently their forum doesn't work properly, either. You can access their forum page, but can't log in to the support section. Throws up some fancy error if you try.
  21. Carlos, it looks like we're both correct ... ;-) When I posted my observations the price for the 777 WL Ext hadn't been reduced yet. Today I am seeing it discounted, 20% lower than 2 days before. Aerosoft has corrected their sale prices in the meantime. Good call by you, Carlos, for those who are interested in expanding their XP fleet.
