i tried to get the 320 but it had been taken up already. and although I have the latest p3d i find i use fsxse much more, it has less issues and if they dont get their finger out and go 64 bit very soon then XP is going to leap frog them.

Following on from feeling ripped off by the latest release of Nice airport as the surrounding scenery still hasnt been released by ORBX , new releases continue apace, however it takes a great deal of self control not to be tempted to buy, buy , buy. I have the old melbourne airport so the new is a great temptation, the new landclass in north America, the new FSL a320, orbx's Narvik looks great but the nearest airfield is over an hour away in an a/c that can use a runway 900 meters long, I have to keep my blinkers on as I only fly in Europe and the Caribbean, but Warsaw city looks good,,,, nah I dont fly there enough--- 29 palms Samos ???? yeah ok I have Skiathos and a load of other Greek airports so thats a purchase then , nothing else!!! oh I forgot , what about UK2000 Exeter sh---- yeah ok will get that BUT nothing else ------ the new LaGuardia ??? I do the odd cross the pond flight ,, but no and every week it is the same story my hardrive is swelling with the struggle of keeping it all in readiness but the onslought continues, where will the next temptation come from? am I alone?

whilst I am still a fsx/fsxse user as well as p3d I am watching the great progress being made in x plane. It is my opinion that if p3d doesnt go 64 bit by xmas 16 it will be history, as they have tinkered around under the covers long enough and marginally improved fsx but to no great significance whereas x plane , since they opened it up to 3rd party devs is racing along, and the next version does show some significant improvements. However for the moment i prefer fsx/fsx se as it is solid and never crashes (if you use dx10) maybe next year will see the long awaited migration to x plane,, time will tell.

I think another criticism of photoscenery is that it appears flat what do you think??

Thanks Sasha many people do not like photoscenery as they say it gets blurry below 3000 feet and much of the commercial stuff does, however as you can see over the port i am down to 300 feet and it is still very sharp, however below 300 feet it does get blurry but by then if you are landing at an airfield you are concentrating on the runway not the scenery on this pic you can see the tennis players

hi Guys , Jim it is too large to send to you Andros and the banks to Bimini is 1.4gb's and Nassau (new providence) in high density is 12gb or 1.55 in lower density. I am currently working my way around North Eluethera and the exxumas, however some of the imagery is differing in colour from plate to plate so not as perfect as the florida that i scanned from the keys to west palm beach. However if anyone wants a copy simply send me a usb memory stick in the post and i will copy it across. Hi, I created it myself using fs earth tiles, different countries have different image quality so one has to accept what is available sometimes though results can be spectacular

It is not easy to get high quality scenery of Nassau but this isnt too bad

the problem with 10 is the updates which you cannot control and they use processor and memory which makes fsim very jerky for up to an hour ormore, plus now you will get adverts which you likewise cannot control if windows 7 aint broke my advice is there is no advantage of going to 10

I would suggest you contact Laurent (the boss) on the FVFR forum he speaks excellent English and is always very helpful

I think we have to stand back and see why JV has made this announcement which appears to be the opposite of what he and others 3rd party companies have intimated in the last few months. I believe it is quite clear that orbx/ftx sales are suffering because they perceive that the general public , quite understandably, is holding back on purchasing their products, because the general public understands, whether correctly or not , that there is a 64 bit version in the wings, and the general public do not want to have to buy new versions of all the products they have or may be thinking of buying. Hence the JV announcement to try to bolster sales. the current version of P3D is not as solid as FSX with DX10 and that is a fact it is OK for puddle jumpers but the big stuff doesnt work well and as hard as LM might be working to improve memory usage and VAS you cant make a silk purse out off a sows ear. the future of our hobby and too many here forget it is a hobby, is 64 bit No 64 bit, no future

sp1d didnt change anything in my p.c. no operations center nothing , all the files are still dated last year . I went onto my account downloaded the only file there the notes tell me it is the new version, but the installation takes maybe 10 seconds therefore no changes help would be appreciated

well i went onto my account could find no trace of an update only what i thought wwas the original download so downloaded it anyway in the notes i saw it mentioned the new version so thought that this must be it , downloaded it fired up the exe told it to repair and very quickly it said that it had done its work. fired up fsx no changes seen , looked in the start menu , no changes, looked in file mangler nothing with new dates , so how do i get SP1D please!!!!

here is a question for those more intelligent than I. as we all know when you make changes in fsx, it automatically changes the texture max load to 1024 and the terrain lod to to 4.5 (the default settings) which is a bind because each time you have to open fsx.cfg and re-edit for ones normal settings. in order to stop this happening is it possible to say open fsx.cfg in something like notepad and leave it open, as presumably fsx canot make any changes in a file that is already opened elsewhere. no doubt i am making an elementary mistale here but i would like to know your thoughts

you clearly dont know how dx10 works

I have been using dx10 for over a year and find not only that the graphics are superior to dx9 the sim is less prone to the odd ctd or memory problem as dx9, i certainly get no shimmering , the water is more realistic , In fact I see no need to ever go back to dx9 now , the only downside to dx10 is that it is not fully supported by some scenery makers, but I can live with that if I have a stable platform.

after much messing around with the .cfg and trying dx10 which I normally run , I find if I use ftx scenery with a small a/c like caronado stuff it works fine but combine ftx with even the airbus extended and after a while a ctd is a certainty reduce the scenery or the a/c to something less demanding and it works ok . So am trying to turn off some services to increase the VAS to see if that helps. However I think the problem is something more fundamental

Froogle is entitled to his opinion, sadly i dont agree with him, there are better sims out there being developed now that can already run circles around XP and XP will never be better than FSX as long as they stick with their current attitude of the whole world being out of step except them. Froogle makes some great vids and does some interesting reviews but he is also terribly naive, when it comes to the workings of fsx and other sims.

I take it all this experimentation is using dx9 ? so why is it i can run much higher LOD radii when using dx10?

fsx doesnt work with 8.1 even with nvidia drivers all i get is a ctd it is a problem with either VAS or a corrupt memory controller check out the m.s. compatibilty site

I have signed but dont expect mr Ballmer to pay any heed at as he has a long track record of cock ups and consistently giving the public what he thinks the public needs rather than what the public wants. As for P3D there is no future there unless they go 64 bit

I am so very happy to thank Steve on his efforts but equally so dismayed that once again microsoft released an unfinished program (which they are famous for)which had huge potential . yet once again m.s. are the losers and through Steve's efforts we are the winners

Maddog has an enormously loyal support amongst those that use it regularly, I tried it and found it was a little dated when compared with some of the more recent and more realistic releases, but it is a case of different strokes for different folks.
