  1. Graphics wise instead, a small investment i think is very worth it is the X-Vision addon since it gets rid of some things graphics wise which are less than ideal while improving other things. On their site you'll find their online manual with lots of before/after screenshots of what every feature does
  2. DCS is not in competition with P3D and XP, since it's a military simulator at this point. Even if there were some more civilian aircrafts, which we already have in DCS, it still woudn't be in competition with XP/P3D. It is already a mayor player, just not where XP and P3D are.
  3. Thank you for the screenshot comparisons, i think the difference between a game from 2006, a further improvement of said game engine and a (hopefully) new engine we see now is quite evident.
  4. They are years late imho. Volumetric or noise generated clouds are the future for me, i hope in the future (but i doubt it) they will turn to those like xEnviro did and the incoming Microsoft Flight Simulator, Flight Sim World, Il2 Sturmovik, Outerra etc etc
  5. We respect every view, i just find his to beextremely pessimistic or, like for the PMDG statement, biased regarding what his/theirs business is inside the community. If it's good, it's beneficial for all of us. If it's not good, we have current sims we enjoyed so far and we'll continue to enjoy (otherwise we woudn't have kept using them until today).
  6. New video is out. I woudn't waste your time since i already wasted mine. - he goes on about guessing that some of the features seen in Dovetail Flight sim are now in the video of this Microsoft Flight sim and so it means that Microsoft Flight Sim is built on Dovetail Flight Sim. Apparently he has no clue that such technology have been available in other games for years to come, and any attempt to actually revamp a flight simulator genre would have those features too since they are considered standards for the game industry (including other flight simulators such as DCS). - he goes around saying that no simulator created by Microsoft ever had good performance on launch, - the issue about streaming scenery if your connection is not reliable etc etc is valid, but we don't know yet how it's gonna work, what is going to be streamed (if anything). - concerns about monetization, and where addons will be distributed and what kind of control Microsoft will have on them. - concerns about this new sim destroying a "perfect" environment developed in both XP11 and P3D thanks to Microsoft absence, and that it will lead to even more sim fragmentation since he also mentions DCS, Aerofly FS2, Flyinside, Deadstick. - concerns about P3D being used by users for entertainment purposes (regardless of the EULA) and what might happen to them and their investments if Microsoft somehow asked LM to enforce this Eula better In conclusion, he is GUESSING that the launch won't be smooth (like it is for most videogames right? 😛 ) and that there won't be good quality addons on launch (because there were for the previous FSX and other sims? 😛 )
  7. Regarding freeware, there have been two other good helis you might want to try. one is the b206, the other is a Hughes 500D
  8. Aero caches from Flight and missions from FSX imho were quite fun and would be even better for less experienced pilots. I would like to see them back.
  9. I would say that was just a marketing claim. They could have said the same for FSX, then of course all t hose datas are compressed into smaller databases (which lead to a 15gb FSX).
  10. Would be interesting to know what's the cut that current flight simulator addon stores take.
  11. While it is true that it's not a fair comparison doing one between a flight simulator and an open world game, i also have to point out that the whole "P3D models the whole world" when compared to Aerofly FS2, Flight and DCS is completely nonsense. First of all i do not think for a moment that in every moment the whole world is available, second of all even if that is the case the whole world is drawn with really low textures and autogen is limited to few miles around you. It would make no sense for it to draw objects further away since the only end result would be to destroy performance completely. It's the same reason of why objects have different lod details based on distance. What are we even talking about?
  12. Let's exclude XP11 knowledge please, because in the past he demonstrated quite some lack of knowledge on that specific platform and what addons for it are capable of. To be honest i would just stick him in the P3D list since that was indeed as you said his business and had tighter connections to its developers too. Back on MS Flight sim, @Ray Proudfoot , just wanted to point out that you need to improve your internet searching capabilities because 1) The official MS Flight sim site does mention "We are supporting 3rd Party Content Development and Community Content creation." which requires a SDK. 2) XBox Game Pass: We know what it does already. You can play all those games for a monthly fee, but you can also buy them with up to 20% discount and keep them forever. More importantly, on the official site link https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass/pc-games you can see that they will have a new Xbox app which works like the Steam store, in the upper part of its window it has 3 categories "Game Pass, Social, Store" and even under it you can see that games can be just bought, of course without the discount the Game Pass offers.
  13. I am sorry i didn't understand it yet. There are lots of games on Steam, simulators included, and their performance or size is not affected by Steam itself?
  14. Care to elaborate? Or maybe you meant streaming based?
  15. I'll await until it is public knowledge who the Studio is 😛 We already had a week long of theories about AS meaning Aerosoft.. Either way just because a study does a type of game doesn't mean they are not capable of doing another 🙂
  16. Yeah, but they only ported over textures and 3d models. The rest was developed by other developers specifically for XP. What i am afraid with some current developers is that they have been developing addons for FSX first, and P3D later (without any major additional features) and that is most of what they are capable of at the time. Also another aspect to consider: since the ESP engine has certain limitations, it might be the case in which addons for it were developed with these limitations in mind and a port over means we will get the same addon with the same limitations even tho perhaps the new engine won't suffer from said limitations. I hope i made myself clear
  17. Yeah, but inviting existing devs means they will try to port over their addons. Which means yayyy! New flight simulator, old addons. I don't see it as a good thing.
  18. If you want old addons, play current sims those addons were designed for imho. Everything else will come at the right time i am sure.
  19. I am pretty sure it won't be subscribtion based, or not just entirely subscribtion based. the Why is simple, go on microsoft site and check what the Xbox Game Pass for PC, which was launched at the same E3 event, does. You pay x euros/dollars/bananas per month and you have access to lots of games (current games so far). BUT, if you like a game, you can buy it with a discount up to 20%. Then it's yours and it doesn't require you to have the Xbox Game Pass to be played. Which means they can run without the whole thing, which means they can be sold as standalone games as well. I think it will have enhanced cities (some of them, just like in FSX we had some more detailed cities and landmarks) which might have some orthos with them, or might let you download them (in streaming or before flight).
  20. This is what Froogle wrote on facebook: "OK Ok. Ive taken the MSFS video down. At the opening of the video I made a mistake in saying that it was XBOX only. Seems a MASSIVE bunch of you didn't get past that and ignored the rest of the video. I'll reshoot it without that error. All good? (For those that did watch it, yes my views still stand - I am NOT excited or looking forward to a new sim from Microsoft - there are far more established and better options available )" I remember that for a period he started trying X-plane aircrafts and helicopters too and enjoyed them. Then he went back to a somewhat P3D-centric type of channel and now he is reporting news for both. Still, the impression i always had was that he was mostly reporting and trying addons for a simulator i wasn't interested in. And now said simulator and its addon developers might be in a worse condition with the incoming MS sim.. Then again, you cannot open the video saying that it is a Xbox game only. That means you really didn't pay attention at all nor did you inform yourself enough and just tried to get a video out to catch those famous youtube views.. Either way i am curious about the far more estabilished and better options available he mentions. It can't be Xplane nor AeroflyFS2 since he barely covers them, and that leaves P3D. Now, in 2019 considering P3D a far more estabilished and better option sim compared to a newly developed one sounds pretty funny to me..
  21. That's what happens when people don't try different simulators or even games. They get out of their cave claiming their simulator is the best and does everything well. But when confronted with the fact that others are doing things in a better way (in some aspects), they simply have no clue. That's why for me a healthy simmer is a multi platform simmer 😄 😄
  22. Word of advice, so far the Windows Store is not really on par with Steam. During the Sea of Thieves beta and even after release there have been lots of issues with it and for downloading the game. On the other hand Steam is a solid, solid platform and offers way more things for the community too (workshop, forums, streaming, screenshots etc etc). But it has been confirmed now that Microsoft have been working on a new gaming platform to substitute Windows store for its Xbox gaming franchise. And this one looks more similar to Steam. And while in the past there was a "no steam policy" on Microsoft games, that has been changed and i really believe that we will get it on Steam too. I am just not sure if we will get it from release or not.
  23. In Microsoft flight sims, okay. But did you ever try XP11 default ones?
  24. Pretty interesting data. I would like to see the mouse+keyboard usage, since i remember from the old surveys that it was quite relevant.
