  1. There are some innaccuracies in @Rob Ainscough post that needs to be corrected so that readers who don't know anything about XP11 (such as the OP) can know how it actually works there (and Rob might also learn something new, which i think is the very core of sharing experiences in our favourite "games"). I'll quote what i believe is an uncorrect statement and the following one will be my reply. What i don't quote of course is something i agree enough with Rob with 🙂 Bear with me. This starts with an assumption that comes from my usage of the XP10 demo back then, the XP11 demo can be run as many times as you want even tho every session is time limited. This of course is not enough time for a full airline flight but more than enough to focus on individual features. I think you meant airline aircrafts. In which case the Zibo 737 and the Ultimate 737 projects both needs to be mentioned. What they are, well, they are different versions of the Boeing 737 line free, which are constantly developed by Zibo and few others and receive changes weekly. The audio part is also supported by FMOD and is quite realistic in my experience. Being a free project, it is well integrated with other projects made by other members of the community (Tablet for settings, reading charts, terrain radar, custom FMC fonts and so on). If we are talking about commercial aircrafts, i think the Saab 340 above all needs to be here too since it is used commercially. And so can the Toliss Airbus 319. Unclear statement, if you mean jagged lines those can be easily fixed by increasing the shadow size. If it's not about that, i don't know, because i consider the shadows on the scenery pretty decent. Most P3D users are using Active Sky for accurate winds aloft data, which happen to have reached Xplane too. If we talk about default weather then, i believe P3D cannot download real weather at all like FSX, FSX-SE and X-Plane can. FlightFactor A320 is an example of an addon which is running their own flight model entirely outside of the X-Plane environment. They will be similar once P3D dynamic lights will be applied to any light source, everywhere on the planet. It isn't so now since it is still based on addon vendors to introduce them on their own scenery, and as you said, they do require a strong GPU to be used. XP doesn't have an "Avatar mode", but interacting with external triggers is perfectly possible and an example of such a thing is the DreamFoil 407. It's one of the easiest fixes out there Rob, a lot of the famous .lua files includes such a fix and there are other tools instead which can make you change them visually while running the sim itself, find the configuration that you like the most, save it and have it auto loaded into the sim every time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's all folks, i'll stress again the fact that the points not mentioned in this post are things i generally agree with. But the above mentioned things had to be clarified for the sake of the reader.
  2. Considering not everyone might be willing to download tons of GB of data and like some others even buy new hard disks just for that, i think so.
  3. Pretty sure that, even the famous survey we had going recently, still indicates what the majority of simmers who visit those few sites do. But no, it's not the majority of simmers. To be honest, having gone from FSX to XP long ago, and me living in Italy, snow (but also seasonal variations) have never been so game breaking as some other users here appear to have it. At least on XP it looks like it will be partially fixed with xEnviro 1.10 which is able to show snow accumulation even above photoreal sceneries.

    Back to FS9

Ever thought about trying DCS? Especially now that most modules are on sales. That is the go-to simulator regarding military planes.

    Droning on...

The main producer of drones is already offering such solutions. https://www.dji.com/aeroscope
  6. Coming for XP, they just announced it in their live streaming. It will replace default ground textures.

    Droning on...

Talking about the standard DJI (drone leader), it doesn't have to have visual sight on it since the image is trasmitted back to the phone, the range can be around 3-4km and the battery last for 30 minutes or so.

    Droning on...

Yet more actions who will ruin an interesting hobby. I have a drone, being interested in photography, i would never dare to fly in such a place. The main brands also have software enforced no fly zones, and in case of DJI drones they also offer special tools for authorities to identify drones flying in the area.
  9. I appreciate the insight, but i really don't believe that someone, who is enjoying XP, will just decide to buy a P3D License and various addons for it just to enjoy your effects.
  10. I guess they can still detect, from a top down view, where the cloud is, where the sun is and project the shadow on the ground. I am not saying they haven't done good things (another one i liked is how landing lights illuminated the clouds), but i think the difference between 2d textures is quite noticeable compared to noise generated clouds. Examples of this last category can be found in Outerra too, xEnviro, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Il2 Sturmovik series to name few examples.
  11. SkyMaxx can claim a lot of things, but what actually happens is the same. If you have seen the noise generated clouds in xEnviro, you will instantly see the difference well beyond my ability to explain it in English 🙂 Either way sprites, billboards (rotating or not) are still 2d clouds. It is indeed xEnviro 1.10, on their facebook page they share a lot of screenshots and videos from testings. I'll just put in here a recent video (there are still visual artifacts in it, more recently they showed also more clouds which develops vertically as well)
  12. It's easy to say what doesn't. So far only the new xEnviro seems to have noise generated clouds which are actually 3d. Anything else is not 3d. Sure, they might add some effects when you enter a cloud or somewhat stop clouds from turning towards you when you fly close, but those are still workarounds
  13. That's an entirely different debate guys. Billboard 2d clouds versus volumetric 3d clouds. But it goes beyond what Active Sky is about, at least in its first version (without cloud texture replacements)
  14. Me too, but those woudn't be considered "starting" helicopters, so to speak.
  15. Lovely helicopter and the flying is convincing as far as i can tell
  16. It says i have no permission to see that content apparently. Weird, i am logged in and i had previously downloaded other versions of it in the past
  17. Is it the differential brake or the wheel model resisting to the full rudder turn tho? I am not sure
  18. I was looking forward more to the cloud textures or type replacement to be honest. And what is unclear to me at this time is: will i have to pay again once, in a year (if we are lucky), the texture replacement pack gets released?
  19. Nice 🙂 They need to flip horizontally that italian flag tho 😄
  20. I am aware. And yet only recently DTG started having more third party content for Train Simulator 2019 (and older ones). So my point was that they are well capable of handling it on their own, if they want to. Because that is exactly what they did for few years on Train Sim 2019.
  21. You do realize that before Train Sim World, the whole Train Sim series, still developed by DTG, has been one of the popular "sims" out there with tons of DLCs all developed by them? We simply don't know how big the FSW office was 🙂
