  1. Which is more speculation done by PMDG, which has nothing to do with Dovetail and i don't see why they would know the terms of the deal between DTG and Microsoft itself.
  2. It's called Microsoft Flight Simulator, i call it MFS. The old naming convention for previous Microsoft titles shoudn't apply since they were progressive and coming out every 2 years. This does not, and /might/ also have a technological advancement in the graphic engine which has less ties to the old ESP engine. Without even mentioning the fact that the studio developing it is also different. So yes, MFS seems to be the most logical one to me.
  3. This is pure speculation and there is no proof of it anywhere.
  4. I would expect to have a helicopter and similar flight dynamics as possible in XP and DCS. Surely not what FSX and P3D addons offers, which usually end up in awful helicopters which require a lot of pitch and power to reach normal cruise speeds, or the lack of vortex ring states and other peculiar conditions typical of helicopters.
  5. Are you sure they are not a charity? Reading some comments i thought PMDG was that! Jokes aside, they can do some "careful" bashing for the simple reason that right now they already have a working market in P3D. If P3D didn't exist and they didn't switch to XP either, you can be hella sure that their tone would be quite different. Either way, since they are indeed a business, they wwill follow the market at the right time for them as you rightfully said
  6. Honestly, as long as it leads to actual improvement regarding sceneries they can use any format and technology they want. But if using a "less recent" tech helps them port over old sceneries, well, i have no interest in those at all. New sim, new things. That's how i think. For older things there are working simulators (P3D, XP, etc etc) i can still use. What i want is a jump forward, what i want is something new not a new mass switch like there was from FS9 to FSX or even a better example from FSX to P3D.
  7. 3d waves are usually pretty performance heavy, even in previous ship simulators their amount shown in any scene were limited to a hundred meters at best or so. I woudn't expect a similar detail on them on a flight sim, even if it has float planes but sure we can hope for technology to keep moving forward and MFS with it 🙂
  8. I feel like listening to a good chunk of the suggestions from the so called "simmers" would be a good thing for Microsoft to not do 😄
  9. Little thing to notice which further confirms there is someone french speaking working on Microsoft Flight Simulator: the video file is called Clouds_Barcelone.mp4 and Barcelone is french. As for the video, if you download it and play on your pc you won't get the stutters. At least on mine i do not.
  10. When it's ready Andy 😄 Last time it appeared later in the evening in Europe (so in a few more hours i think)
  11. That reply is not from an official account. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVJhp5gXN8nDuVovbExmfVQ
  12. Why you guys keep bringing up ATC, flightplanning and VR like they announced those features? The latest update simply mentioned the fact that Microsoft is aware of what the community is talking about, it isn't a list of features that will surely be in the simulator. Sure you can expect them, but the point of that update wasn't to give the community a list of confirmed features. "There are many very important topics being discussed in the community (e.g. New Flight Model/IFR-VFR Flight/Weather Simulation Depth/VR Support, etc.). The team is constantly monitoring the feedback/suggestions being discussed and please know that many of these topics and more, will be covered thoroughly in near future updates."
  13. Most engines not built in 2006 do 🙂 Those are basic effects nowadays. Just like 64bit, which made it funny back then how everybody was stunned by it 😄 Eh, certain simmers need to play more and see what it is possible to achieve outside of the usual sims 😄
  14. Well, everything matters. So no, it's not Alcatraz. It's still in front of Marseille. 🙂 You can check on Google Earth and you'll find the 3d version of it.
  15. Portings of the same addons with the same features, textures, flight models etc etc 😛 Preferably with a higher price and a lenghty post about how many rivets have been faithfully reproduced.
  16. The sole reason of P3D success is that Microsoft disappeared for years, P3D uses the same ESP engine used in FSX but it's an improved version, most addons could be ported over (and most bought back since it's "professional" and that justified certain developers to sell the same plane with almost the same features at a way higher price), and that people are keeping a blind eye to the "no entertainment use" part in the Eula. The problem with that is the stagnation it creates, both from a technology point of view and a mindset point of view in the developers and users both ("i have everything i need, why should i change?" "I have invested so much, why should i change?" "i can port old addons with the other sim for a higher price, why should i change?"). FSEXPO reactions are not indicative of the market, and neither is Avsim for the most part since most people in here are clueless about other games and nowadays engine capabilities. The super professional simmers are usually close minded people who focused so much effort and money into a platform that they will only see that and even defend it as a way to justify their big investment in it. Hell, being aviation lovers i would expect most of us to use more than one simulator. Does it happen? I don't think so, not so much as i would expect. If you have numbers of sales regarding P3D, please share them or avoid making claims you cannot back up with numbers. At least for FSX-SE( 1.000.000 - 2.000.000 owners), Aerofly FS2 (20.000-50.000 owners), X-Plane 10 (50.000-100.000 owners), Xplane 11(200.000-500.000 owners) and even Xplane 10 mobile edition (over 1.000.000 copies) there are numbers (Steam sales so without even considering those sim sold elsewhere as well) which can be brought into the conversation. More over even FSX is a GAME we are all playing a game. You go play FSX vanilla and you tell me if that is a professional simulator. Or if P3D vanilla is a professional simulator. Or any other, really. No game is born a professional simulator, but most have certain features which are easier for new players and with addons other more complex features are introduced. This applies to all current simulators, even DCS has a "game mode" out there for new players and options to simplify the whole experience. Gamers and "flight simmers" have been using the same GAMES since forever, the difference is the addons used and the behaviour of such people inside the same platform.
  17. I don't know, you tell me. We are considering games/simulators without addons. So i think the comparison should be done with what they all offered once released. And how they were marketed too. Prime example being FSX with this video Which makes your statement about this new Microsoft Flight Simulator not being a simulator based on what they said and showed funny, considering how FSX was showed in the above mentioned video and how today you consider it a fully fledged simulator.
  18. Out of curiosity, @Skywatcher out of all products out there, what do you think can be called a flight simulator?
  19. I am aware. Did you try helicopters, any helicopter really, in FSX/ESP and in DCS/XP/Aerofly FS2? What doesn't make sense is a super pitched down helicopter nose at cruise speed.
  20. As long as we don't have that ugly behaviour of FSX/P3D in which to go at cruise speed you need to use a ton of torque and pitch the helicopter down to an unrealistic angle because helis in those sim have a tendency to fly to the sky. But considering that they haven't shown a heli so far, i would expect some to come as DLCs soon or later, who knows. Or maybe they will be in the base game already by the time we know something more about it (august or later)
  21. You are basing it on the wrong idea that only PMDG is able to make high fidelity products, or even that current third party are the only ones capable. Just like another studio different from Aces Studios was capable of making a new flight simulator, in the same way new third party developers can do the same.
  22. We are completely irrelevant even in comparison with the Steam population, where every day there are over 15 million active accounts
  23. FSX-SE is still having a stable 2800-3000 peak of players playing every 24hours, with an estimate number of sold copies between 1 and 2 millions according to SteamSpy
  24. Sounds like a poorly written article, i woudn't pay attention to any of that.
