Traffic is on again - close call :)
Pastaiolo replied to MrFuzzy's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Cool to know. I usually keep multiplayer planes on, at least those crazy pilots keep me company when there aren't live traffic AIs 😄 -
Flightsim.to is a goldmine

Top right click on your nickname, then go to "My downloads" and there you'll see the addons that needs to be downloaded to bring them to the latest version -
We should demand better aircraft addons
Pastaiolo replied to AviatorMan's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
My point was that i am getting tired of buying over and over the same airplane for numerous simulators. I'll rather have them focus on delivering something new. And..retrocompatibility in a way doesn't help achieve such a thing. Of course that would open the whole debate "reliable plane sooner or new airplane later on" but heh -
We should demand better aircraft addons

Sorry, we would have more high quality aircrafts or more easily ported over already seen aircrafts? -

Good luck on your projects, looking forward to the CL-215 the most 🙂 -
X-Plane 12 announcement keynote

Looks nice. The helicopter choise does not, but that's just me. Seen too many R-22 arounds during the years and multiple simulators. -
Payware Showing up on Flightsim.to
Pastaiolo replied to PilotPete99's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Well if you have been flying in MSFS and haven't heard of them yet you must have been hiding under a rock. Currently it's the go-to site for freeware addons for MSFS. The interface is modern and that's probably one of the things i can enjoy, especially when making a comparison with the "usual" file hosting sites. -

This is exactly what i expected for ground improvements on XP12, based on the fact that one of the strong points of the presentation of XP11 was regional autogen. Especially considering what MisterX was able to do in such regard with different kind of autogen, i was even hoping it would be implemented directly into XP12. https://store.x-plane.org/SFD-Global_p_1060.html So far it has been the only addon ever, for any sim, giving mediterranean houses their mediterranean look. And of course, that other sim that paints roofs the proper way. -
Henrik Nielsen's Global AI Ship Traffic for MSFS
Pastaiolo replied to captain420's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Yeah they don't move, he uses some of your ships as static library in some of his harbours too i think. -

And that's your own limit, probably based on the fact that you are doing this professionally too and not just like a normal user. You want to know why they come here? First of all, notice how you put it into a context of "us vs them", while we are all users "simmers" 😛 They come here because it's easy to troll those who, no matter the topic, feel the need to defend their favourite platform. Ignoring them would be a much easier solution. But it's not just trolls. a good chunk, i am sure, come here and comment because they know what XP gave them, they enjoy what they have but they also realize the limitations it has and simply want a better product all around. Can you really blame them? It's a way of venting their frustration, perhaps the reasons they left the sim for the competition even tho the competition itself had some weaknesses XP doesn't have. -

Personally, i'll have no problem using both simulators and getting XP12 once it's out (even in beta). I know it's a long run and it will take time. Both simulators deserve our interest imho. Especially considering to what was capable by "older" sim just a few years back. -

Reading the XP forum gets tiring and tiring because of the usual fights. And the fault here is for both factions. On one side the usual suspects attacking XP every time they can, on the other side what i would call the Austin League if it was ever a superhero movie. As for XP12, i am overall happy on what they are bringing to the table but some things well, i expected better (but there is still margin of improvement). Videomaking: 2021 and LR still have not started producing videos which are well made, with proper fps, no stutters, compression etc etc. There are lots of video makers in the community but..nope. Still amateurish in this regard, the part about Austin i found a bit childish, but we know Austin is one of his kind too. F-14: because i am a DCS user and i think that military planes have a place only in an environment in which their proper avionics can be used (and a XP F-14 won't have the proper avionics anyway). Water: it's the feature i am the most satisfied with, even tho i am waiting to see how bathymetry will actually affect water color. Shallow nice waters are not just in the tropics, so Italy will be my test bed to see how it will actually look. Clouds: we didn't see a lot of it, but sounds good. I notice the same issues which others pointed out with MSFS regarding "crispness" of them, so i hope it will be improved. That, and the cloud draw distance on the horizon which seem to be limited still especially on altitude. This is still the second feature i liked the most Lighting: in this regard it's my main disappointment. WIP all you want, but it does feel a bit bland. An improvement yes, but i think a place in which other simulators still have the edge and LR still need to close the gap. Ambient sounds: since i am not a pilot and i consider everything i use on my pc in my free time, without training aims, a videogame, i am happy for anything bringing more immersion. Including ambient sounds on the ground. Even tho, when another simulator introduced the same things, on this same forum i kept reading and reading how it was a joke and an element which clearly showed how that other simulator was a "game", in a world dominated by the Simmer masterRace. New Helicopter: Third "feature" i am happy to see, helicopters are always welcome for me 🙂 Autogen: during these months i was lead to believe that there were some east european coders going to improve the autogen a bit, perhaps bringing more regional autogen (since otherwise we are, yet again, stuck with houses which either look american or german). Seeing only stuff about sport fields, lighthouses and airport towers was a bit disappointing. But this is something that can improved over time. -

I think retro compatibility is not an issue, we know they are aiming for that. Let's just hope it does feel like a Next Generation title and not a polished XP11.. Watching that lighting preview again.. sky banding everywhere, shadows not touching the plane wheels etc etc. Work in progress, yeah. How much time and work will it take to see the progress tho? For some things in XP11, it took too word not allowed long. But Vulkan is here now, so we'll see what awaits. Lighting, water and clouds. That's all i need. -

I hope there are improvements on water too.. There are a lot of mid solutions for it in between the awful water we got now and the best ever water in the world. And an improvement is better than waiting years (i still remember some tests Ben showed in the blog years ago 😞 ) Besides that, main interest will be for volumetric clouds and lighting. Give me that and the visual gap is quite reduced with other sims (civilian and military) -
Bad MSFS Model vs. A Real 737?

It's fair to say that, while this is an aviation related forum, sometimes ship happens 😛 -
Photogrammetry on or off?
Pastaiolo replied to Bert Pieke's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
PG on. No third party addon can give the same visual fidelity of seeing your own house, with its shape, the right color and so on. And it applies to hundred of cities world wide. -
Hey... guys... come now, they're on holidays...
Pastaiolo replied to jcomm's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
To be honest, it's not just the "MSFS does this and that" kind of people who gets boring. It's also the "omg Austin is a genius, they have the best people on it, this is a TRUE simulator and i am a basement 737 plane captain, they are doing everything perfectly". Exaggerations are bad either way. If we are here it's because we care about the product and would like to see it improved, because no matter what it is showing its age and there are new technologies introduced by other simulators which are nowadays considered standard. Hopefully we'll get to see quite some of them in XP12. With features which will benefit everyone, and not just the self-called "simmers". The features coming to XP12, for what we know, are good. I just wish there was more attention to marketing and a faster pace in delivering updates/new information/new articles. -
Any word on a World Update for Asia?
Pastaiolo replied to captain420's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
They will still pick them based on user base and availability of data. -
Phogrammetry affects only urban sceneries with more realistic buildings and such If you are a bush flyer, you might want to search on the usual sites better meshes, since those do affect the terrain
