Trying hard not to buy more FSX Orbx at the moment in their sale. The lack of immediate news re FSW is making that harder.

I think DTG is going to die without Orbx. I have bought a heap of Orbx in the last month or two nearly all for FSX with one for AFS2. Next year I am planning on buying a lot for AFS2. I cannot see myself playing FSW much at all unfortunately.The truly frustrating thing is that FSX Orbx is so nearly compatible. Textures are great but houses without walls etc.

I have boxed FSX installed and steam FSW so I can use path statements in FSW scenery.cfg that point to some FSX scenery. That mostly works fine. If I bought FSXSE then I can see all sorts of problems coming up with those .cfg files.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know what the Windows update actually does? I am assuming a lot of people thought ut was a good idea too. I used to marvel at the way they kept upgrading MS Office when the version they replaced had no problems. Change for the sake of it? Justifying jobs? Seemed stupid and annoying to me.

I am retired and glad to be so after 51 years of paying taxes. I think many of us retired folk actually have more disposable income than the younger ones and forget that they have to be more discerning and careful with their money. So always good to hear from them and if we old codgers can answer any questions they might have on any products before they spend their money that is good too. The thing is not to grand stand or give unsolicited advice I reckon. Young ones are our future.

Do not know about old guard but I am old I guess. I have 3 civilian FS at the moment, This one, AFS2, and FSX and am looking forward to seeing where it all ends up in the future. For the life of me I cannot see FSX 32 bit dying as they keep releasing add ons for it! I have all the US Orbx regions and am still buying new aircraft add ons for it. Logic would say 64 bit world is here go with it but ..... I like all 3. This FSW one I think desperately needs Orbx on board in a big way with the release of Regions not individual airports that can follow later. It also desperately needs a more balanced aircraft hangar. AFS2 is the odd one. Orbx has done a couple of sceneries for it and they are brilliant but it is more photo real than anything else and the frame rates are phenomenal even on an average machine. It is also the only one of these 3 that is Android friendly with top of the line VR support as well. Competition is good.

Why is needing lots of add ons necessarily a weakness? Surely an open sim that enables improvements is better than a closed one?

I like thinking of my FSX, FSW and AFS2 as games. To me calling them simulators gives an impression that they are real life related and that could lead to fatal overconfidence for budding real life pilots.There is no substitute for reality. Just imagine a scenario where the pilots of a 747 are incapacitated and the call comes for anyone who can fly a plane ...... YOU have 200 hours in a game/simulator..... it is up to you

As a retiree the only challenge I want to face every day is getting out of bed. So I guess missions do not do much for me but thanks for the effort guys you keep the sim alive and progressing. what I do like the sound of is Airport traffic and extra liveries. When is the Airport traffic going to be extended to the rest of the FSW world please?

I do not think FSW is a casual sim as it is a 64 bit incarnation of FSX only more up to date and better in some ways. FSW is also only GA too at the moment but aimed at being a sim as it is a child of DTG FlightSchool. I have FSW, FSX and AFS2 and AFS2 is definately the different one.

If you have this one you will notice a much quicker load time, easier interface and very high res scenery with phenomenal frame rates. Recipe for casual flights! Downside at the moment is limited world coverage but that will come in time.

You just picked a colour from a pallette and clicked on it to get a new paint job. Basic but very simple.

Really tempted to invest in some Megascenery at some special 50% off prices through FSPilotshop.com but as I have FSX with a large Orbx collection and AFS2 that is expecting some more Orbx products in the pipeline...... Probably best to curb my capitalist instincts :-) Thanks for your input though guys.

Not sure. I noticed that Megascenery products are half price on the FSPilotshop.com and was wondering if it might be worth trying. I would not do it ifthere were compatabily issues.

Can they co-exist in FSX. If not is it possible to disable PNW temporarily please?

Everyone is different but when I had Orbx problems I found uninstalling UTX fixed them. If you have UTX or REX try that.

In Free Flight FSW you select a start airport and a destination (waypoints too if you want). Hitting U will show the tape and direction of travel and the distance to destination in green under an arrow on the tape at the correct heading. That distance keeps changing of course and it is really handy for estimating the time to descend as well as other things. I found that to be all I need for my low level VFR flights.

While trying out FSW I got used to using the U key to bring up the compass tape at the top of my screen. Going back to my FSX I notice that does not work even though it is listed as a usable key under missions. Is there ant way of switching that on in a cfg file or something?

I have the Iris P40 in FSX. I think that can be ported over.

Interesting and thanks. My Orbx Canberra Cityscape has a working fountain in the lake so why not DD? Most Las Vegas sceneries have the Belaggio fountains too.
