  1. Don't forget to try the mountains around ENHV in order to make sure this setting does not cause terrain flickering 🙂
  2. You beat me on time 🙂 BTW can you please try taking off from ENHV with any aircraft and let me know if you see black squares flickering on the mountains on that area? I had it this morning and it stopped only by reverting this setting to 2048 (Ultra). Thanks!
  3. Jagged edges shadows do not depend on DX12 or DLSS, they can be mitigated with values higher than 2048 here below, but then you have occasional black textures flickering on terrain in mountainous areas. {Shadows MaxSliceCount 4 Size 2048 - Replace with 8192 DLightContributionCullingThresholdS0 0.100000 DLightContributionCullingThresholdS1 0.100000 DLightContributionCullingThresholdS2 0.100000 DLightContributionCullingThresholdS3 0.100000 OmniContributionCullingThreshold 0.000000
  4. It does but the extent of it depends on the resolution and screen size (starting pixel density). On a 27" monitor @ 1080p, if you add DLSS small fonts will certainly appear blurred. On a 28" monitor @ 4K you won't notice it. I am in the middle (34" @ 3440x1440) and the blurriness on the gauges is barely noticeable. It's a matter of preference and compromise, there's no "one size fits all". On the other hand in my opinion DLSS AI does a good job to reconstruct distant objects such as wind turbines, radio towers and windsocks. A couple of examples. The original screenshots are 9 MB PNGs. Here the wind turbines are barely rendered in the TAA screenshot while they are well visible at the same distance in the DLSS one. The second image is a 500% zoomed portion of a screenshot. Besides the better representation of the radar tower you can see that the TAA even produces artifacts (much darker pixels in the lower part of the image, that DLSS prevents. You need an nVidia RTX card, it doesn't work with GTX and AMD cards.
  5. The 3080 Ti has 12 GB of VRAM, I personally saw 13-14 GB used at 3440x1440 in a non-PG area and without add-on scenery (just the FBW A320). With DLSS Quality the VRAM usage drops by about 500 MB. At 4K resolution I'd say that the 3090 is mandatory for this game, unless of course DX12 will be optimized more in the future. If I recall it correctly, the High setting includes Terrain LOD at 100 which is not very nice to see... I'd go custom and try various settings to reach a good compromise.
  6. You don't download only what's been updated, the game is divided in packages (big files) and even if one single line or byte has changed in a package, you have to download the entire new package. Having said that, the last two updates have been very fast for me (200 Mbps average with peaks at 500, of course plus the time needed to decompress) and they are not a big deal anyway, you can also leave the FS window in the background. A fast Internet connection is required to enjoy all the features of the game anyway, and it was clear since before release. I welcome updates personally, since in the last months I have seen a net improvement with each one.
  7. I see it differently. The purpose of an open beta is to spot bugs in the new release more quickly, because we (users trying the beta) are thousands, Asobo testers can be maybe a dozen. Also, any "open world" game has bugs and inconsistencies. MSFS isn't perfect and never will be just because it is THE. OPEN. WORLD. Literally. It depends not only on its code and a set of polygons and textures on your SSD, but also on the availability of online data covering satellite imagery furtherly elaborated by AI algorithms, real time traffic and weather, plus thousands of interactions between all this and aircraft systems. It is literally impossible to test all of this in every part of the virtual world and make sure it's 100% bug free. If you expect The Witcher 3 level of perfection in a complex project like this, you are condemned to be unsatisfied for the rest of your life. We have the right to criticize Asobo and MSFS for its shortcomings but we also have to admit that at least since SU6, significant progress has been made with every sim and world update. And sometimes also looking at the alternatives we have can help get us with feet on the ground and happier of what we have. Youtube is there 🙂
  8. Once ray tracing is implemented, those 45 fps will drop to 30 or less, and a GPU upgrade will make sense...
  9. You don't need any code, just leave that field empty 🙂
  10. Hi Folks, just my 2 cents on this beta release after 5-6 hours of testing: Loading time improved by 30-45 s DX12 finally usable and smooth Average framerate slightly improved Stuttering improved DLSS cured TAA shimmering DLSS looks better than TAA overall for me (3440x1440) - the image is sharper and more detailed with minimal impact on gauges (see zoomed screenshots below) Massive amount of VRAM used (12-15 GB) which, along with the decreased stuttering, makes me think that the sim is more capable of scaling now Rock stable for now with all the addons I have - I had a CTD only, resizing the improved VFR map (I read that others experienced that too) ...look forward to real time ray tracing 🙂
  11. This is SO right. 3 years ago I too fell victim of the "G-Sync compatible" marketing and bought a Freesync 2 Ultimate monitor. It could get down to 30 Hz with a software mod but it suffered brightness flickering (like EVERY Freesync monitor on the market) and performed poorly in terms of latency at refresh lower than 60 Hz. I ended up not using VRR at all with MSFS. Only since I have a proper G-Sync monitor (with built-in G-Sync hardware) I realized that G-Sync is just a superior technology and the "free and open" counterpart is absolutely not equivalent as marketing advertises.
  12. The CPU is OK, the GPU is still good for 1440p with some compromise (high detail, not ultra). But the Internet bandwidth is an issue because with 10 Mbps texture streaming will not be optimal. Upgrade it as soon as you can.
  13. No, it has nothing to do with the GPU... it's CPU (main thread) bottleneck. I experience this every time I fly for more than 1 h - 1 h 30'. It's a well known issue, for now just use LOD 400 when you fly low with small aircraft and 200 for long haul.
  14. They have to pay for the hosting and the bandwidth, what do you expect? Nothing is free, unless it can rely on ads AND a huge userbase, which a flight simulator addons website will never have. Personally I welcome this, it's better than nothing. Why nothing? Because if they fail and shut down the website, everything is lost.
  15. It's a rollercoaster of emotions 🤣 Personally I was not a victim of the reinstallation bug anyway, I moved the packages before installing the beta and opted out as soon as it became the current version.
  16. SU8 - 22 Feb 2022 - Please add a vegetation render distance slider
  17. There is one from a moderator actually: "I don't think it's a bug" I DON'T THINK IT'S A BUG ... https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/115-gb-mandatory-update/489617/28 Also: I have monitored many threads where keeping a default installation already causes challenges even not participating in a Beta. All the basic Security settings to the path, symbolic linking, etc. So it’s not surprising that you’d want to keep your Packages out of those possibilities. I mean... we are talking about a Microsoft software accessing Microsoft Windows folders. Every other Windows software or game is perfectly able to run from and get updates into the standard Programs Files, Programs Files (x86) and steamapp folders without any issues since decades 🤣 And moreover it is the DEFAULT installation path chosen by their installer.
  18. I had 64 GB and it didn't make any difference, even before SU5 which reduced the RAM usage a lot.
  19. In this case VSync can't be on, otherwise the max framerate would be 60. Just double check the settings, it must be off somewhere.
  20. Do you have a 144 Hz monitor? If that's the case, in the MSFS world 30 fps correspond to 72 and 20 fps to 48. If you want to lock the framerate to different values, you have to do it with an external tool
  21. Jummivana posted that, and she's American... but why waste a couple of minutes doing some proofreading on something that your French colleagues sent you to share with million people? 🙂 After all she just works for the biggest software house in the world. I jumped into the beta because I was sick of those clouds hugging the ground and I have a 600 MB connection, but yeah, I understand why many people were afraid.
  22. Nothing changed and needed to be reinstalled after the beta. The build number is the same, no modifications were made. I simply opted out and the sim started as usual without downloading anything. Those who had their files deleted would have probably avoided the disaster by moving the package files to a custom location as suggested by MS, but surely this is not a justification for MS/Asobo. When such things happen, it's because of extremely bad design of the application / installation process.
