  1. so, you didn't mention your monitor and unless you're using (and staying with) 1080p then your GPU memory is going to run out before you can benefit from the resolution improvements the rest of your rig facilitate. (or something like that).
  2. when I tried to fly stoned, I couldn't even find the 787, let alone VNAV & LNAV...
  3. KMSP is (also) in p3d\scenery\namc so PWJT8D is probably correct with the requirement for flightbeam manager to disable the original .bgl(s).
  4. I suggest you update the client only. that's what I did and cleared out the shader cache before restarting P3D. it's well documented here (somewhere). you won't have to uninstall/reinstall everything else. the other 4.4 packages are optional and can wait until you have a week with nothing to do 😉
  5. I would consider a usb video dongle, I've set one up before.... worked perfectly well but would only be capable of running ancillary programs: tracker, maps, etc. as it's not going to shift millions of pixels a second efficiently. the one I used was 'cheap' and supported 1080p. not sure if the 1080ti has usb-c either.. I'm probably wrong (thinking out loud) but it might be possible to daisy-chain from a usb-c connection.
  6. there's no reason I can think of that would get me to shove a GTX570 into a PC which already has a GTX1080ti in it. potential problems with old hardware, power requirements, driver instabilities, software compatibility. sure, it might work... it might also toast your whole system; hardware, software or both.
  7. I know exactly what you're talking about but I haven't seen those sort of issues since PCIe took over from PCI. in the server environment, I've always been very impressed with super-micro boards. they have always had a PS/2 fallback on board. I see now that they have moved into the enthusiast arena with a range of super-micro gaming boards. I've seen a review or two which indicate they have carried over their enterprise quality components and build into gaming. they're not the 'fastest' but I wouldn't doubt their stability. good luck with your search.
  8. I have the same CPU with an asus rog maximus X code. I get a 30% overclock with a corsair liquid CPU cooler, turning off multi-core enhancment (MCE) in UEFI and running AI suite config with HT enabled. 32% with HT disabled (though I haven't rerun that for HT disabled since a bios update). still runs cool and quiet. obviously other components (and luck) make a difference.
  9. go to settings, privacy and work your way through the column on the left; turning off/ disabling or 'minimalizing' everything on the right. this should drastically reduce background activity to the extent your OS should feel like win7 again. if not, set it back to defaults.
  10. try turning on SMBv1 on win10. lots of potential security issues doing this, however a consumer wireless switch will not usually allow windows networking traffic to pass through the firewall. ymmv. and... in tcpip settings/advanced turn on netbios over tcpip
  11. wait for a sale if you can (40~50%).
  12. 8086K no HT; 3084 single threaded. that's on a ROG max code X board on which I ran the auto-overclock software. boot screen says 32% - not exactly sure what that 32% relates to (~5300 clock observed) but... HT on the best it'll do is 25%. not optimized beyond that and it's still cool running which is nice.
  13. there are prescription lenses available for the occulus rift if you didn't consider that option. can't speak as to the comfort at all.
  14. I have a 34" 2K asus curved g-sync monitor. I am extremely happy with it and I wouldn't change it BUT I don't use the whole width for P3D and I don't use the 'wide' option within P3D either. I do have a few ancillary programs running (map, etc) in the free space and that arrangement is how I like to have it set up. no advice, just an experience...
  15. (long shot but maybe worth mentioning)... if windows 10 shuts down before a program/process has completely finished; the task will be restarted when windows starts. P3D can take a minute or two to shut down completely AFTER the icons disappear and a shutdown or reboot within that time will often restart P3D when windows starts up the next time.
  16. change the method you're connecting the bar to the PC. I hear clicking when a bluetooth speaker being charged by a USB connector is connected to my PC; clean sound when it's not connected.
  17. goodness, no. don't do that! if you've done the changes that mpw8679 suggested then back off your sliders in sim and see if that improves things.
  18. no... nothing like that. I think it's quite possible to find a happy medium with your PC. you will be able to turn off FXAA in P3D settings with the monitor you're thinking about which will offset but in no way compensate completely for the demands the higher resolution places on CPU/GPU. but it is a step in the right direction and a huge improvement on your PC experience as long as your eyesight is good. (my old eyes find 1440 a bit of a strain).
  19. the huge jump in resolution should provide a far more immersive experience on its own. but whereas previously I doubt your GPU was stressed at all; the new monitor could easily overwhelm the ability of a 1060 so you _might_ need to reduce some settings accordingly. I have a curved monitor and never thought much of the tech until the monitor I wanted was only available curved - so I bought one. it didn't take long before I no longer noticed the curve. as to the benefits vs. flat... I can't really say... if you're overly conscious of things like light bleed then flat are likely to be superior. I don't worry about such things; when the sim is running it all looks great to me. a GPU upgrade is in the cards though. a 1080 will get you high settings in P3D and medium res textures in environmental add-ons. a 2080 will get you highest settings in P3d but doesn't have the VRAM for all 4096 textures and... a 2080ti should sweep the board (best).
  20. considering energy (heat, noise...) and reliability... don't do it (my recommendation). especially in the age of 'inexpensive' SSDs.
  21. it's never easy is it... ;( if you have the stomach for another go at some point then a complete uninstall/reinstall of the video driver (and sometimes sound driver too). I imagine you probably did this (but for others reading...) I can't complain about 1809 myself but there's certainly a fair share of P3D users that have no luck with it.
