  1. Textures are replacements for a selection of defaults of P3D which are typically those of FSX, personally I use Rex Texture Direct with Soft Clouds, that said EnvTex is I believe a newer set by a alternate developer, there are also a lot of freebees as well. I also use TomatoShade, it never was updated to fully support 4.5 HF3 but provided the Reflection mode is not used it's a great tool for adjusting the look of P3D's shaders directly, and it's free. As you might guess I use it myself and have a very customised config and also apply a couple of manual edits ot the shader files themselves, which is easily done with a text editor like NotePad++. I can help with Tomotoshade and the shader edits if you like, just let me know. Also I looked through this thread, saw your screen shot of monitor modes and noticed to has 60Hz then 24Hz. What you might want to try is to create a custom 30Hz screen mode via the NVidia CP, I'm pretty sure it should do it given it supports down to quite low sync rates. Cheers
  2. Well I use the ASUS GPU TweakII application, mostly because I have ASUS cards, which have been good to me overall, most card makers have their own application to do similar but you could try the TweaklI app, at the very least the graphs are good for monitoring GPU use. I found the 1070Ti overclocked quite well, and recall reliably getting it up to ~2 Ghz with ram running @ 8 Ghz, my latest card is a 3080Ti - also a great card although not quite powerful enough to run P3D at max GFX settings, maybe a 4090 ? Here's a pic showing the 1070Ti with the monitor part of the ASUS GPU TweakII. At the time I was running Windows 7, since that pic I've updated to win10 and from a 1700 Ryzen to a 5800x Ryzen and also dropped in the 3080Ti (note the 3080Ti won't overclock at all - it's like already at its max performance settings), all using the same box and motherboard where BIOS updates have supported the new processor. Cheers
  3. Hmmm, yeah, here's some from me 🙂
  4. In anycase... There is an interesting thread in the MSFS forum regarding the MSFS flight model shortcomings with a few links to dev posts as well. Upon reading I would say there's a bit to go still, but then again there is the issue of...backwards compatability and all the workarounds already in place in existing aircraft it seems. I for one am happy with P3D and its current level of backwards compatibility, and the flight model while not perfect, does fit the bill pretty well overall. Links: for the gist of things. https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/questions/10019/how-does-the-need-for-accurate-geometry-balance-ag.html https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/all-that-is-wrong-with-the-msfs-flight-model-inertia-stalling-pitch-authority-trim-sensitivity/379936 Full thread: Also (and since there appears to be many MSFS users poking their nose into this thread) does anyone know if this type of stall is simulated in the MSFS FM ?
  5. I gotta admit, I've never had it so good with so many great performing aircraft I thought I'd be able to afford to collect. Been slowing installing and flying the various Milviz freebees and great fun they are indeed. Along the way I've been resolving various quirks each aircraft comes with. And here's a few various pics of the ones so far. A real STOL takeoff 🙂 Runway cement was a bit wet... I was actually playing around with contact point extremes determining the best postion for fine tuning various ground fx. The 530 heli is a pretty good flyer and sports an interesting livery, one of many it comes with std. My fav atm, the DHC2 Beaver, very sensitive to low air temps where carb heat is a requirement to prevent the engine detonating, does take a fair amount of runway for liftoff when chocked up with cargo or passengers. The Corsair, a tricky beast to fly, not quite as tricky as the A2A P51D but close. Finally the KA350i AirKing, an amazing experience all round. Cheers
  6. Maybe this time they'll be a little more open given they really do need to woo the hobbists because hobbist 3rd party purchases encourage devs to create content for P3D, which inturn means a greater pool of devs available to build for their platform be that for hobbist, commercial or military. Cheers
  7. Hmmm, I guess some planes are going to be more problematic than others. But to answer to at least what I can. - Are there too many errors? Carenado planes will typically generate a ton of errors, many are irevelent as Carenado usually marks an image file to not load by renaming the gauge reference name to include "inop", however it will generate an error log message as the gauge code still tries to find the image, also many are generated by the format used by some of the comments in the code. And of course there will be a quantity of syntax and code errors. In my book any error is too many as it indicates code trying to do something then failing, where each fail takes time away from processing within the sim. - Are there some errors that P3D4 cannot ignore? I guess since you get a crash then "yes" would be the answer. - Some other reason for the crash? Does the Windows event viewer help ? e.g. I recently traced a P3D crash to a windows speech issue which in turn was due to FS2's Ulitmate Ground Crew X. The crash would occur on a plane where Ulitmate Ground Crew X was not enabled but Ulitmate Ground Crew X has to be setup in the menus anyway. Nothing showed in the P3D logging but I did find the issue via the Windows event log, where once I'd fixed Windows Speech all was good with P3D and this particular plane (Milviz Beaver DHC-2). - Does an update for the Carenado B1900D exist? (Most files are from 2014 or 2017) The version I have is a v1.0 I downloaded in 2021 and yes many files are from 2013~2017. Try asking Carenado support (though I wouldn't put a lot of hope in their response). Cheers
  8. When it comes to commercial use sims MSFS is not where it's at. But yes hobbists should be considered important, if anything they are a pool of beta testers providing feedback on various forums. It will be interesting to hear what LM have to say. Cheers
  9. I take it that was the panel.cfg without the WX ? e.g. the one located in ~\DHC-2 Beaver Milviz\panel.mv530_430 I can see that particular config is missing Window01=GPS [Window Titles] Window00=Main Panel Window02=Autopilot Where as ~\DHC-2 Beaver Milviz\panel.mv530_430_wx does have Window01=GPS included. [Window Titles] Window00=Main Panel Window01=GPS Window02=Autopilot Window03=WX Radar Being on P3D v4.5 means I am using the wx versions of the panel.cfgs and also having GTN750's means that's what I'm using too. But I do remember on initial start having set 530 & 430 & wx that the GPS's did popup just fine. Cheers
  10. I don't feel like I've any compromise going at all... Infact personally it's never been better. New powerful hardware (a 5800X Ryzen & 3800Ti Nvidia) and 3 x 30 hz capable monitors have opened the skys with a smoothness with a settings ramp up to almost the max achievable in both the sliders and in the config files. Plus not only do I have all my major Orbx stuff built up starting from FSX days, there is also more planes than I ever thought I'd be able to afford sitting installed in my 28 xml discovery paths. And I am just enjoying flying them all, which is going to take some time 🙂 Cheers
  11. Hey @BokChoy You need to either quote the post or use @Rogen for me to see a notification of a post, just lucky I was paroosing the threads to see your post. Anyway, although I did use a junction point it doesn't apply to the key in the ini file. And as far as I can see the installer would work just fine if you chose to install to the P3D sim root. If you install to the sim root the aircraft folder would end up in ~\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Rotorcraft\MILVIZ_MD_530 And the ini with the key would end up in ~\Prepar3D v4\Milviz If the MVMD530.ini is in the ~\Prepar3D v4\Milviz folder path the plane should find it. The ini file contains a [GENERAL] section with three values underneith being, Key= Company= Username= Make sure the Key= value has 4 x 3 number each with a short dash between and no leading or trailing spaces. Let us know what you find. And below are a couple of posts, one is regarding the MD530 and some fixes I did, the other is about using a junction point / add-on.xml hybrid install.
  12. I found in the link below. https://milviz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=11402 That said it doesn't appear to have any functional download links anymore. Might be best to start a thread in the AVSIM Milviz forum and ask Slayer68. Tis a great plane though 🙂
  13. Hehe, yep just what I was going to say, that banging sound is the engine on the way to self destruction. I too bought the Turbo Otter and it did take some getting used to as the engine realism most definitely meant keeping the gauges out of the red sections lest the engine dies, which for myself was often untill I got the hang of it. Cheers
  14. It's under the Pilot's seat. You'll need to use Shift+BackSpace to lower your eye level to below the seat. Adjust view point to be able to see the pump lever and the std. Gear controls. Then pop the Gear circuit breaker and set the Gear down knob to the down position. Pop the pump handle out of its holder clip by clicking on the clip itself. Pump the lever until the gear is down. Looks like the Gear Down lights don't illuminate when using the pump handle, but once down momentarily pop in the Gear circuit breaker and the lights will illuminate. Cheers PS. did you download the fixed Hobbs meter gauge files from the support forum ?
  15. I too have been finding this to be a great bird 🙂 Just a few little nigglies to resolve so far, and fortunately easy to do. Fix #1: Updated the aircraft.cfg as per below. ui_createdby="Milviz" instead of ui_createdby="MILVIZ" as P3D would recognise as a different category in the aircraft listings. Fix #2 This is unusual, looks like the first instance should link to the second instance, renamed the second instance from SHUTDOWN_EXT to SHUTDOWN_EXT_A, seems to have resolved the error. [error.43] error=Duplicate Section Name File: H:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Rotorcraft\MILVIZ_MD_530\sound\sound.cfg Section: SHUTDOWN_EXT Fix #3 Light Intensity Knob doesn't work well at all. The issue here is a bunch of script lines missing the opening bracket e.g. if{ L:knob_light_dim, percent) Unfortunately the issue is in the interior model "Light Intensity Knob" section. ~\SimObjects\Rotorcraft\MILVIZ_MD_530\Model\mv_md_530_int.MDL To resolve I HEX edited the MDL file to turn all instances of the problem code, e.g. "if{ L:knob_light_dim, percent)" to "if{ (L:knob_light_dim,percent)" The trick when HEX editing is to keep the byte size and order just right, so as we add the bracket we also remove the space between comma and percent, thus byte size and order is maintained. The HEX editor I used is HxD. error=Gauge/Script Error Type: Unknown Name: Unknown Error: Invalid script (no command is more than 4 characters): "L:knob_light_dim, percent) 5 - 0 max (>L:knob_light_dim, percent) 1 (>L:XMLSND1,enum) 0x11004 (>L:EVENT, enum) } Cheers
  16. Ok, lotsa questions, lets see what we can achive. First a little background to cover some of those questions. My "H:\Addons_P3D\" is a path on a H: drive (NVMe M.2) where the intent is to place addons via the use of an add-on.xml file where they will be automatically "Discovered" by P3D. The root folder itself has a series of subfolders based on category, for example the below are the directories where the numbering is simply to provide ordering in Windows File Explorer. 01.Aircraft 02.AI 03.Utility 04.Scenery 05.SimObjects 10.Wip Those paths and paths within are defined in the P3D add-ons.cfg as discovery paths, where a discovery path is a path P3D will search for add-on.xml files to import, note the high numbers in the snip, I actually have 28 discovery paths configured whereas a default P3D install will typically have one. [DiscoveryPath.15] Path=H:\Addons_P3D\03.Utility Title=Utility Active=TRUE [DiscoveryPath.16] Path=H:\Addons_P3D\02.AI Title=A.I. Active=TRUE But back to 01.Aircraft, this has further folders beneath to catagorise the developer of the aircraft, into which I place the actual aircraft root folder e.g. Carenado, A2A, AeroSoft, Ants, Milviz, Realair, you don't actually have to go down to this sort of lower folder level, it's just something I do which I've been thinking of simplifying by just using a prefix for the developer on each aircraft's folder name like "Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair", or "Carenado_Pilatus_PC12' so that the aircraft will be grouped by folder name in Windows File Explorer. To create and manage a Discovery path your best bet is Lorby_SI's "Addon Organiser for Prepar3D", the tool will also enable you to easily perform a full backup of P3D config files as a zip file. Let's tutorial using the Milviz FG-1D Corsair as this aircraft has a little gotcha to be aware of. Using "Addon Organiser for Prepar3D" first perfom a full backup of your config files, I'm not going to go into how to use the product itself as is has a useful guide included, and it has its forum here on AVSIM. Next up create a folder path like "[drive]:\Addons\01.Aircraft" where [drive] is a drive letter of choice. Using "Addon Organiser for Prepar3D" add a discovery path for "[drive]:\Addons\01.Aircraft". Pre-create your target folder for install as "Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair". You'll now have a path of "[drive]:\Addons\01.Aircraft\Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair". Install the Corsair to "[drive]:\Addons\01.Aircraft\Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair" instead of P3D. When installed you'll see there are three folders within "Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair". Effects SimObjects Sound Now we create an add-on.xml, notepad++ is the tool you'll need to use (Google it if need be) as the xml needs to be saved in a particular format, the below link has the format info. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/550578-incorrect-character-encoding-in-add-onscfg-file/?do=findComment&comment=3984466 I've also linked to the P3D SDK doco page for further add-on config reference. https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv5/sdk/add-ons/add-on_packages.html I've included my add-on.xml text in the spoiler below where the gotcha this aircraft has is the SimObjects path in the xml being "SimObjects\Misc" as the aircraft includes an extra for rockets, bombs and droptanks. Note I've not added the SimObjects\Airplanes path to the xml as we'll be adding that particular path via a junction point (symbolic link). So now we have our discovery path, aircraft path, and under the path there are three folders and an add-on.xml, which means we are nearly there. Now we create our symbolic link. Open a CMD using "RunAs" administrator and using the below script line (suitably modified for your own paths) paste into the CMD and run. All going well there will be notification of the sucessful link creation. mklink /J "[drive]:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Airplanes\Milviz_FG-1D" "[drive]:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft\Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair\SimObjects\Airplanes\Milviz_FG1D". That's it, you should be ready to fly and begin enjoying the great Milviz FG-1D Corsair freebee 🙂 Incidently I found a easily fixed bug in the Corsair, I like it when a developr's release includes practically nothing to fix, although if there was one thing I'd ask it's an option to enable the pilot's mirrors. Error Fixes: error=Duplicate Section Name File: H:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft\Milviz\Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair\SimObjects\Airplanes\Milviz_FG1D\aircraft.cfg Section: direction_indicators Removed the first instance at lines 421 & 422 as the second instance lines are the same values with commenting. FIRST: [direction_indicators] direction_indicator.0 = 1, 0 SECOND: [direction_indicators] // 0=None, 1=Vac Gyro, 2=Elec Gyro, 3=EM Slave Compass, 4=Slave to other ind direction_indicator.0 = 1, 0 Cheers This pic shows the Rockets and Bombs mounted which are managed via the Shift+1 in sim key combo.
  17. I use a junction point where needed. For example, the Milviz freebees (which I'm totally enjoying and spending considerable time with) have an issue with sound files not being found when installed as an add-on.xml, and I do try to install all my aircraft to a specific addons "Discovery" path (H:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft). So rather than having to go through and spend time trying to resolve the sound probs (which may not be easily or even achievable given their custom sound dll), what I do is a hybrid type of install, where a Junction point is used for \SimObjects\Airplanes\<name of aircraft> And an add-on.xml is used for the Effects folder etc. The files reside in my "H:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft" path with P3D able to see them, and of course I make a text file covering what is used to install for reference.
  18. I remember the disaster movie 2012 about a flood enveloping the world due to plate tectonics and shifting. An interesting movie featuring an Antonov 500 that met a fate of destruction, although the 500 was a fictional plane, it was based upon the Antonov 225, which unfortunately also met a fate of destruction. But it lives on in the various sims, this being the P3D version with shots taken at various locations. Cheers
  19. And just to show it all installed fine 🙂
  20. I successully installed myself and it flys just nicely, key worked fine. The key is placed in the sim root in Milviz\MVMD530.ini along with other items that have a key. I actually installed outside the sim root and used a junction point to link back to the sim root then manually copied the Milviz folder and contents to the sim root. Cheers
  21. I've had a few fail myself, but then a download restart at a later time gets it all down. The downloads are held on MS SharePoint so likely reliability of downloads is not a consideration. Probably the site is busy. I suppose there is also an option of using a download manager. Cheers
  22. @Caribe the KA 350i Beech is really nice, maybe not quite a pretty as the Carenado version, but certainly has way much more depth of operations.
  23. Too excited to read the website's download page burb 😉 Freebies Have fun. We offer absolutely no support. Install at your own risk. Mouse over images to reveal DRM keys (if applicable)
  24. A great option ! https://blackbirdsims.com/flight/freebies.php Thanks BlackBird @Slayer68 this asnswers my question on the BlackBird support forum I posted after attempting to purchase in the new year start. Would these be the very latest version download links to those updated with v5 installers ? Or is is going to be required to register to the Support Forum to find and download a v5 installer ? Cheers
