  1. Is there a link for the GSX profiles and dynamic lighting mods ? Their new site appears to have dropped all P3D and their old site has only the option to redirect to the new. Cheers
  2. In case there are people who have not seen or heard of the site https://www.nl-2000.com/ They have all of the Nederlands as photoreal with autogen, including resolutions of either 1 metre per pixel or 50 cm per pixel. 1 metre is pretty good, 50 cm is even better but would need a pretty super machine given the large amount of data to process @ 50 cm. Includes airports, animated trees, moving trains and various other objects as well as airports and v4.5 & v5 are supported. They have their own custom installer with a choice of summer or winter. Interestingly the installer also supports Flight Sim World, where I assume it references via Registy keys meaning it should be quite easy to point the installer to a v6 instance via repurposing and repointing via a set of customised P3D registy keys. Cheers
  3. Hi Kalnon, The original dev crew must still be around given they produced an MSFS version. Maybe the MSFS package has contact details ? Cheers
  4. That is looking pretty good, how's the performance ? Cheers
  5. Yes it is in particaular a good looking aircraft, very detailed and performs well (so far), plus the package also includes the actual F-86F 431 page Flight Manual from 1960 (if you're up for some light reading). MilViz should have more actively promoted more often (for all their aircraft), as so far their freebees have all been pretty good will minimal fixes needed. This one has an error in the aircraft.cfg A duplicate entry which was messing with my ultimate ground control package. [CameraDefinition.8] Title = "Starboard" Guid = {013697da-7454-42ff-9e80-19f75ecc5c88} Description = Origin = Center SnapPbhAdjust = Swivel SnapPbhReturn = FALSE PanPbhAdjust = Swivel PanPbhReturn = FALSE Track = None ShowAxis = FALSE AllowZoom = TRUE InitialZoom = 1.0 ShowWeather = Yes InitialXyz = 31.5, 1.7, -3.0 InitialPbh = 5, 0, 275 //InitialPbh = 0.0, 0, 215 // TBM 01/09/2023 commented the duplicate. 6. Yes was a bit of a sticking point for myself too, Adam said he needs it to stop trolls joining his discord and that discord was the only free method supplying the size/bandwidth for file distribution he needed. I understand the files are configuration files that don't take a lot of space ? Perhaps someone else on the forum already has them who can make them available ? Cheers
  7. I personally am a lot more satisfied with tomato shade, because, first, it is a lot more natural to me, I do like those programs, but I firmly believe Tomato Shade is a revolution in P3D and my viewers on the channel enjoy it the most. Well, that is personal preference, but we are discussing Rogen's preset here, and I believe Tomato Shade is essential part of it. As per what Bob mentioned there is RDShade and EnvShade for P3D v5. I have given them a go as part of my testing of v5 to see what could be achieved and while they certainly provide options you wouldn't otherwise have, they are not in the same league as Tomatoshade, which is much more powerful in IMHO. I'd class Tomatoshade as similar to PTA in what could be achieved, unfortuantely PTA has died along with its author and Tomatoshade is for P3D v4.5.13/14. And yes while Tomatoshade is a part of what I use to configure the look and feel of my v4.5.14 P3D, the cloud shader is a separate item and one can be used without the other just fine. Another issue is shaders tend to change with each P3D release point and can mean a lot of complex programming work to bring a shader package up to date to suit a point release, the complexity means the level of programming talent required is rare (and even more rare now in the P3D world). The above said both RDShade and EnvShade for P3D v5 are far easier for the non-technical or non-programmer to use and and are fine for their scope of intent. Cheers
  8. Hi @bofhlusr, Unfortunatelly not in the same way, but you might want to take a look at various posts of @adam77. He has a YouTube channel and has a nice set of config presets to suit P3D v5. The only problem is that he distributes the files via his discord server and requires a valid phone number (and perhaps more) to join the server in order to download the files. Plus he can be a bit on the prickly side. Cheers
  9. Hey Folks, Despite my previous post (more a rant about my disappointment in LM) I do see many advantages in the use of P3D which is why I use it. And for those like minded people, below in the spoiler are a collection of prepar3d.cfg settings I use to help improve the look feel noting a good CPU and GPU is typically pretty mandatory. Note it's not a complete configuration, more a list of selected settings with my notes regarding. Cheers
  10. There is dev support for P3D, only it's falling back to contact based. Meaning if you want a development team to build, they would probably do so under a contract, just as is done for millitary or other commerical developments. But then again that would cost a ton of $$ and require scoping and much additonal work to go with those much needed deep pockets. Previously dev teams really had no choice but to develop for P3D, where there was enough of a pool of users to elk out a living, now they are flat out developing for the Microsoft sim, and even if you wanted to contract a dev team, you might be hard pressed to find any teams who can afford to allocate time to such a contract. Essentually P3D was the incumbent sim people were kind of forced into what with Microsoft dropping FSX development, where a lack of real competion meant although LM were improving their sim, the look and feel was not one of the targets, plus P3D take up was not helped by LM's erroneous licensing terms (which have now been changed, but infact after the horse has bolted). Personally I blame both LM and Microsoft. Microsoft for their predatory actions and announcements and LM for failing to recognise they were being outclassed from a development pace perspective. Admittedly LM do not compete with Microsoft since Microsoft targets selling as a game to general consumers, and LM sells as a training aid to commercial and military. But LM's lack of raising the base look and feel is totally their issue, given they relied on 3rd parties to rase the bar instead of incorporating into the base of the sim. Even Dovetail's "Flight Sim World" included things like PBR, Ambient Occulsion, Orbx's Base scenery, True Sky, and A2A's accu-feel and a really good mission creation system too and all as defaults. Cheers
  11. ??? - REX would be the people to ask such questions, although they are MSFS focused nowdays. The "REX 4 Texture Direct Soft Clouds Enhanced Edition" contains the "Community tab", see pics. Community Tab is at bottom right middle and is showing recent Community Themes. Searching works. And the version number is 4.17.2017.0818 and is the current according to the check for updates button.
  12. I saw a post on the P3D forum from a developer reporting an issue with gauge lighting too. And there is a post in the flysimware forum about changes to gauge glass transparency. There was also a report about a P3D v6 issue with xml tools. That's the problem with updates, pros being updated and improved, cons being items previously working broken. Hopefully LM are onto the introduced issues. Cheers
  13. I'll gve installing to my custom add-ons paths a first try and see what comes of it. Sound and any custom apps are typically a bit of a problem when it comes to add-ons paths, but there is usually a workaround. Cheers
  14. Hi @Kalnon, Perhaps try an alternate GPS ? I've just installed the F-86 (great plane by the way), added the GPS 2020 which is available in the AVSIM library (version 12.4) and then added it to the aircraft as per below. for example: [Window Titles] Window00=GPS //-------------------------------------------------------- [Window00] Background_color=0,0,0 size_mm=456,378 window_size_ratio=1.000 position=6 visible=1 ident=GPS_PANEL Type=Special window_size=0.31,0.45 zorder=0 gauge00=GPS2020!GPS2020, 0,0,456,378 //GPS2020 custom GPS gauge I used the aircraft quick start proceedure as detailed in the manual and have flown for 20 mins with the GPS 2020 fully operational the entire time. Give the GPS 2020 a go, I use it in many aircraft where a popup is the only option. Cheers The Milviz planes have proved to be pretty good, even better now they are free.
  15. Anyone who has this plane able to comment ? I do have the Flywaresim Lear which is pretty good in itself, but the 40% off option for the Xtreme Prototypes release does sound pretty good, plus it looks like v4 releases are coming. https://www.xtremeprototypes.com/shopexd.asp?id=48 https://www.xtremeprototypes.com/default.asp So a couple of Questions: 1), The Weather Radar. Given the radar options are limited does anyone run Roland's Radar as an embeded unit ? 2), Glass effects. Rain and fogging, are they supported? 3), Hypoxia. If I was to depressurise the cabin at altitude will hypoxia come into play ? The blurb mentions "Crew and passenger oxygen system & Oxygen valves", but is there any consequences built in ? Cheers
  16. Of course P3D v4.5 is different to P3D v5.4, isn't 5.4 suppose to have improved performance what with DX12 and the ability to better manage an affinity mask? Personally though in my testings between the two versions, I found the performance difference to be margional, although each version does have pros and cons depending on the type of flying and what addins you'd be running. As to the edition of the Majestic, each offers more advancements in operation, and when I originally purchased I found the Pro edition to be the version that personally suited myself. There is nothing stopping you from continuing with the Pilot edition. Cheers
  17. MS and LM are two completely different organisations designing and building completely different products. LM mostly targets the designing and building of aircraft and associated weapons systems for government and defence. MS is mostly business and game related software. I'm sure LM do use MS software like the MS Azure cloud and desktop / office software (as does almost every western based business) although I doubt they would use Windows as the OS of an F-35 jet 😉 Cheers
  18. Hi @jfri, I have the Pro version in P3D v4.5 and it performs excellently with my 5800X and 3080Ti noting I'm not using VR though. @ a resolution of 2560x1440 I get ~46 fps taking off from Wellington NZ (addon airport) and a rock solid 30 fps when I switch to vsync on @ 30 Hz, noting I've got pretty much every P3D setting set to the max as can be seen in the 3 x attached pics. The plane has an amazing level of systems detail and is certainly one of the better aircraft performance wise, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. What's needed for VR ? (fps). Cheers
  19. Hey @Lotek, Just because the Windows Apps says it is filtering by C drive and showing the P3D installs doesn't mean P3D is actually installed on C drive. Likely the Windows Apps listing is failing to work properly due to the P3D installer (the msi installer files) not setting an "InstallLocation" registry key, thus the Apps filter option won't correctly filter. If you right click on your desktop P3D icon and select "Open File Location", you should find the explorer window opens at the actual path where P3D has been installed, and as long as that's Ok all is fine. The 35 GB on C drive will relate to the installer packages as Windows keeps a copy if the msi installer files on C for things like repairs and uninstalls. If you were to manually set each of the P3D "InstallLocation" registry keys to the path where P3D is actually installed you'll find the Apps filter by drive function will then work as you'd expect. For reference the root registry key is, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall Where the actual registry keys are recorded under a GUID number value, try searching the root key for Prepar3D v5 to find the packages. Cheers
  20. Yeah, cannot win them all... I'll also add to this thread the P3D specific config settings I'm using. Cheers
  21. Yes we understand you're an MSFS zealot... Cheers
  22. Most definetly a great collection of freebees 🙂 I have struck the issue of AV blocking downloads, however there has always been an option to allow the download to continue anyway. Note: when items are downloaded from the internet Windows will typically mark them as "Blocked" as the internet zone is not considered to be safe. Windows and Defender (as well as other programs) do use the "Blocked" flag to determine how to handle the file. Once an item or archive is downloaded its properties should be checked and "UnBlocked" which is just a tickbox on the downloaded file's Properties -> General Tab. Also if an archive (i.e. zip file) is extracted prior to being unblocked, all the extracted files will have inherited the blocked status. https://www.isumsoft.com/windows-10/3-ways-to-unblock-app-or-file.html Cheers
  23. Hi @mikeymike, As to the shader points. You find the Tomotoshade preset and the custom cloud shader in the two spoilers attached to this post. Note the cloud shader is quite GPU intensive meaning a great GPU is needed, e.g. it's fine with my 3080Ti, note both are P3D v4.5 only. And Reshade can be downloaded from https://reshade.me/ where the download you'll want for P3D will be the one with full addon support. Reshade supports DX12 so can be used with P3D v5+ as well as P3D v4.5. There is a wiki on reshade.me with good info too. The GPUTerrain.fx & PrecipParticle.fx shader changes are below, where I've quoted from the post you'd placed, which in turn was from a previous post of mine. Note the GPUTerrain.fx chage is only applied if that line exists which it will if the attached Tomatoshade preset is applied. If the preset is changed the line itself may change or not exist so check first and do not add the abs() wrap unless it is needed. Note I use the very good Notepad++ text editor to edit these files, it's free and a Google search will find. Tomatoshade preset. Cloud.fx shader And finally here are a few pics of the cloud shader in use where the cloud textures are Rex high resolution 32bit images. The rendering effect would be similar should alternate cloud textures be used.
  24. Rails on ? Have a look at this vid, check the G meter on the RHS. Cheers
  25. Hey @TG90, Installing P3D into the Windows "Program Files" path is likely the cause of your issue being as the "Program Files" path is a protected system path and typically requires Windows Administrator rights to write to. Running the app as admin should get around the problem. You can set the app's icon or shortcut to "RunAs" Administrator, thus whenever you run the app it will ask for Windows Administrator rights. You could also change the rights of the P3D folders, but that can be a troublesome experience due to Windows ownership applying. Ideally installing P3D outside of the "Program Files" is the way to go e.g. "C:\Sims\Flight\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\" as the folders will be created with suitable rights automatically, well... at least until MS further locks down their OS. Cheers
