Thanks everyone for your comments! So far... 1) For the trees gonna go with Rex Accuseason. Just seems more recently updated. 2) I found the entire AIG library in a google drive file somewhere so I just downloaded that for the models. PSXT+RealTraffic sounds really neat, but no sure I want to pay the subscription, so I might mess around with various other injectors and see what works. Ideally would transition back into Vatsim as soon as I can. 3) Guess I'll try both DX11 and 12 and see! 4) I've always been skeptical of frame generation, but may give it a go. Appreciate all the votes of confidence for AutoFPS. I have MSI afterburner and did a lot of OC testing when I first got my system, but it'd invariably lead to crashes, so now I just frame limit to 50fps through the nvidia control panel. Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Hi Folks, I'm getting back into MSFS2020 after a two year hiatus, and am trying to get caught up. I've updated my software, done a few flights and things still seem to be working fairly reasonably. That being said, I had a few questions which googling hasn't fully solved which I wanted to throw out to the community. 1) Is there a fix for trees yet, especially regarding giant trees in cities? 2) Are there any decent AI Traffic solutions or is it still kinda a kludge? Is AIG still the best option for model matching? 3) Did the DX11 vs DX12 debate get resolved affirmatively? 4) Have any earth shattering add-ons been released? I know about the basics like addon-linker, we love VFR etc. I've heard good things about autoFPS which I may try out. Anything else? Any other big changes I'm missing? (I'm aware 2024 launched, but am not planning on upgrading yet). Thanks everyone for your time, -bbsmitz

I'm still using 460.79... 😛 -
Hi Folks, I finally caved and decided to go from a 5600x to the 5800x3d. Other specs in bio. I did a light A/B comparison at a few NY airports. Before: 5600x. PBO enabled in Bios: +200 MHz boost, -10 core optimizer all cores, Manual PBO Limits of 110/90/140 for PPT/TDC/EDC. Was air cooled using a Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B Air cooler with a single 120mm fan. MX-4 paste. After: 5800x3d. PBO2 Tuner in Windows. -15 on cores 2 and 8, -30 the rest of the cores. No adjustment of default power limits (142/95/140). Cooled using Artic Liquid Freezer ii 280mm AIO w/ offset mounting. MX-4 paste. Resolution is 2k. My settings are mostly ultra, and I run TLOD/OLOD 300/400. I have a ton of addons including some global ones like we love VFR and ship traffic and a lot were enabled. 5600x: Asobo's Enhanced JFK Gate E7. No ground aircraft or AI traffic, calm weather, noon. Sitting in A310 cockpit cold/dark: ~40 fps. I flew using the Bonanza from Newark Runway 22R up the Hudson, across Manhattan, and landed at FeelThere's KLGA, Runway 13. Ground aircraft were at 50, but still no AI traffic. Takeoff: ~35fps +/- a few. Cruise: High 40's-50fps. Landing: 34-36 fps. With some fairly significant stutters early on in the approach as the airport loaded in. 5800x3d: JFK Gate E7. ~50fps. (+25%) Newark--> KLGA Takeoff: 45-50fps. (+28-40%). Cruise: 60-70fps. (+20-40%). Was often GPU limited. Landing: 45-50fps. (+28-40%). Still some stutters as the airport loaded in, but much less significant. Qualitatively, it seemed smoother, but haven't flown much so can't speak definitively on that. However, if you're main thread limited, and MSFS is a primary use case for you, this seems like a no brainer if you'd like to milk some more time out of your AM4 platform without having to shell out for a new MB/RAM/Processor. I got mine for $329 on sale at GameStop, and I imagine prices will be down at that level, if not lower, by the time the 7xxx series 3d models launch. And for those interested. Cinebench R23 results. Before: 1605 single, 11801 multi. After: 1492 single, 15241 multi. Cheers, -bbsmitz

That is a stunning plane.

I'm waiting to see if any of the improvements ASOBO make insofar as multicore performance will pay off. I have a 5950x which I'm about to put in which I think I prefer more for it's all around future proofing re: the number of cores and faster clock speed for other applications. But if there was 5900x3d with 12 cores I feel like I'd be okay taking the step down due to the MSFS boost.

Here is the text posted with that graph. "Time Spy is, by contrast, a benchmark that is significantly heavier in the physics department than Fire Strike, and thus leans much harder on absolute clock speed instead of any architectural improvements." So it's absolutely unsurprising that the 5800x outperforms the 5800x3d in that case since both its idle and boost clocks are higher. The improvement will come in games where the CPU cache plays a larger role; e.g. MSFS. That's not that surprising is it?

My frames just went from around 25fps to 50-60fps sitting on the ground at JFK, gate E9. Even panning around in external view gives me >40fps. 5600x (PBO with PPT/TDC/EDC limits increased to 110W/90A/140A), 3090, and 32MB Ram at 3600. Still getting some fps drop when I look around quickly with track IR, but that difference is astounding. Like my performance literally doubled. That is one hell of a bug.

Thank you so much for the careful work and comparison! I'm leaning towards giving this a miss; I think I'd prefer to have the versatility of the 5950x going forward, particularly if there's a bug that's making things run much worse than usual. Speaking of which, can you explain what this bug is? Do I need to turn off PG completely? Or do I delete specific areas?

Fired it up, and took a look around a bunch of airports. BOS, JFK, SFO, DFW, ORD, YSSY, EDDF, LFPG and EIDW. Seems like the bones are there; I saw the planes you'd expect for the most part. Definitely work to be done by the airport developers on parking spaces (SFO in the deluxe version had entire terminals barren; no idea why), and obviously not all the models are done yet, but really amazing work guys. Well done, and congratulations.
